Debt is a counter that shows how much value you're getting out of that power pick you spent on Rise of the Phoenix.

The value of RotP has decreased because [players being defeated] isn't as much of a thing as it was on live. But that's another topic.

I don't get an impression the market code is inefficient.

I think it's much more likely that prices rise up rapidly due to the "bursty" nature of how the major crafters purchase salvage, especially the common and uncommons.  For example when a crafter character logs in, the player/farmer may intend to craft dozens of recipes in a quick session. If they need salvage, they're not going to nickle and dime bidding on low-end salvage to get the best price. They'll quickly raise their bids until they get what they need. Commons and uncommons are so cheap the expense is a trivial round-off error compared to the revenue they intend to get, and their time is more valuable than that.

But if the processing of the orders was quick, you would expect those prices to fall again quite rapidly.

10 million or so of that 10,021,032 is the original amount the devs seeded the market with at a price of 100,000.

Good info. Now the market suddenly seems much smaller (and more open to manipulation).

I also agree with the assertions about supply being low. It seems that there are fewer farmers or the farmers that do exist have perhaps declined to sell yellows. As Andreah states, "their time is more valuable than that".

So the supply is probably the issue, not the processing, even though that does appear very slow sometimes.

  3. For the avoidance of doubt, "Market Inefficiency", in this instance, means the inefficiency of the Market code in processing orders.

Does the slow processing of players' orders cause prices to spiral? I think so. Oftentimes I see prices rise and rise as impatient people outbid one another because the processing is slow.

What on earth is going on? The market code seems... considerably sub-optimal. Why do we see weird shifts where suddenly the price of yellow salvage goes to relatively high levels of influence each for weeks on end.

I believe there should be an OPTION, when setting price, to have the asking price decrease over time. This would allow old orders to eventually fill. It's an alternative to having the offer expire after a time period. Look at how much Yellow salvage exists on the AH. At the time of writing 10,021,032 for sale. And yet the price is quite high. It's a failure.

Sooooo, assuming my new toon, Spolcyc, were to, um, slightly resemble a certain leader of a group of young mutant super beings under the tutelage of, say, a bald dude with bitchin’ mental powers, how would I best make this work? (Ahem) Hypothetically, of course. I’m thinking I absolutely need:

    -eye blastage of some kind

    - leadership

    - some form of martial combat skill of the kicky and/or punchy variety.
-a crippling fixation on a woman who will eventually turn into a mad, cosmic entity. (Optional):-)

X-Ray eyes from Atomic ... Blaster?
It could do with proliferating as an alternate animation, but hey, I think most animations should be proliferated prolifically.

    I don't know what a blapper is

and picking a primary set then hardly using it is SO counter intuitive that I'd say it's totally alien and I never would've thought of it.

Not gonna try it either because, as I've already said, I solved the problem myself.

I agree with you. It IS counter-intuitive. That's why I'd like to read the opinion of a blapper. 🙂 Sorry for the slight derailment.

  6. Do dead people want to be remembered as boring "stone" memorials?

Or would they rather be remembered as something alive, vibrant and fun?

I know I'd prefer the latter.

Perhaps if someone who knew the person can make that decision, based on the person's personality? I know there are an awful lot of boring old farts still clinging on.

You see the primary power is really the problem. No matter which one I pick, that's going to be my character's MAIN THING because of the way the game is constructed, that's why I'm asking for a new primary set that isn't so dang focused.

Any blappers care to share your opinion?

I personally agree with @srmalloy. There is everything the OP is askin for already within the game to build a wizard with the exception of a spooky robe and a pointy hat. I feel imagination is 75% of any game when you are attempting to make a certain type of character.  As @biostem has mentioned an Elemental set has been requested prolly multiple times and I can only assume the devs are givin it thought but until then a players imagination is goin to fill in that gap. Other posters have givin good options as to how best make a combo of powers to represent a wizard style toon. Really at this point it is totally on the Op to take the advise or leave it. Every toon i made took effort from me to see the toon for what it is.

    1. We definitely need a point hat.

    but

    2. I think there's scope for arcane effects applied to existing powers as alternate animations. It shouldn't be a huge ask to apply those fancy arcane circles around one's arms or feet or back or whatever whilst at the same time doing the vanilla animations. It might be massively difficult to implement because the tools aren't sufficient to quickly convert modern, conventional files to the ancient, seemingly unique filetypes that CoH uses.

In summary, I think the vast majority of power requests can be solved with a broader range of alternate animations, but that's a lot to ask from a dev team that's stuck with duff tools. 😞

      • No longer inaccurately claims it applies -Acc

Ah, perfect! Good job you. And the developers.

That's cool, I like that - but please take a look at the rest of my message. In it I suggest that these event alerts get brought into the gameworld. So instead of spending time gawping at a chatbox, like we're playing some 1990s MUD, we can see alerts in the world itself.

So can we still talk about Group Fly?

Justifying the pick and endurance cost to take it is hard enough, but it still sucks balls and needs a rework. Increase the radius, give the caster slightly less flyspeed than everyone else gets.

I can't even use it properly with pets its so sad.

    100%.

It's completely pointless and annoys your friends. Why would anybody use, let alone pick it? It's the low bar.

If it were me, I'd make it work on all your own pets, regardless of range - which would give it a purpose but only for a few classes.

Then I'd look at replacing it entirely with something fun. Perhaps move afterburner into the pool instead of having it on that annoying popup. Why should you get that free? That's USEFUL.

Hey there's the first thing I'd do. Swap Group Fly into the annoying popup and afterburner in the pool. Easy peasy, problem solved.

... and that's just off the top of my head. I'm amazing!

This one's funny. He doesn't fight crime, he just hopes that the Invisible Hand of justice sorts everything out for him. His real name is Thomas Hobbes.

No, that's not right, Hobbes warned us about Natural Law. This would be someone else, but Hobbes could be his Nemesis ... that would make this guy a villain, well we knew that when we saw the name.

I'm too tired to sort the intellectual intricacies at the moment 😞, but there's a good joke here, I can sense it.

It's got to be doable, since KR has so many "Police v. Thugs" encounters going on (including some right near Blue Steel). It's just a matter of settings, I assume?

I was thinking how you could do an event like the burning building. I came up with ...

    Assault on Precinct 14.

I haven't got much further than that. Thugs attack a cop shop. If players don't stop them the thugs win and... er.. something. Like the burning building, probably no consequences, but still.. maybe a badge if they manage to succeed, whatever that looks like.
    image.png.7b06c1cddf12a05b7587d7ff910afe95.png

I suppose that's much like this already existing demi-event in Nova Praetoria.

  14. I think we could do with alerts of in-game happenings, and more happenings. I want the city to seem alive and the players to interact with the world, not just mobs placed upon it (which is another suggestion altogether, which is another suggestion <- one for the Police Squad fans).

The lazy manifestation of this would be just some "Occurrances" chat channel where things get spammed when they're on. I don't like this idea at all, it seems too meta, too check-listy and non-organic.

Instead, I'd like some kind of thing you can check on your own terms, so you whip out your stolen police radio or newspaper and, perhaps, a UI element pops up with currently occurring things on it (and time remaining, because how many times do you just get there when the burning building or troll rave is ending?). Or there is a ticker on a building with HAPPENING NOW, or  BREAKING NEWS: on it. Or a video screen, a LED/LCD advertisement board (hello 2023) or some other non-UI in-world element indicates the emergency. Maybe you're a tech origin with a wrist-mounted news feed or something?

Welcome back. This week's thread is about the street level gangs within Paragon City such as the Hellions, Skulls, Outcasts, Trolls, and Warriors.

What do you think of these and other similar street gang esque factions? Do they offer meaningful character development for you as your characters overcome the nuances of your common street gangs before being ready to face other factions? Does their lore hold up in your opinion? What if anything would you change about these kinds of groups?

*Why oh why would some of them be stupid enough to try and steal a purse 150 feet from Ms. Liberty and her army of fledging superheroes trying to make a name for themselves?*

    As always thanks.

There's a power called gang war. Why aren't there any street fights? Would it kill the processors to have some gang-on-gang action? I mean, make the city seem more alive and less about "pods" of "mobs" waiting to be "farmed".

A good example is the fire events in Steel Canyon.
