By now, not only are several public rogue servers up, but hundreds or perhaps thousands of people have downloaded the code or the ready-to-go VM's that allow you to have a private server of your own. You don't need much in the way of hardware to run a small server capable of supporting a few dozen players. NCSOFT cannot go after all of those. My advice to hedge your bets is play on both public and private servers and/or make friends with people who have a server so if the more public large scale ones get shut down you can just switch.

LoL. A lot of my characters spend time visiting the hospital even though I usually play at the lower settings because I solo only these days. Ten years ago, though, i had a bots MM that made it all the way to level 31 without a single defeat before finally getting whacked because I was playing with just my left hand and eating dinner with my right.

Hmmm. I'm surprised they didn't use the database to store this stuff. So it's in what, one of the Piggs? I'm a developer that builds and maintains billing apps for my company and have used SQL server for years. It surprised me how small the initial database was, relatively speaking.

That's the site where I learned how to do it. I just went with the first instructions, the Freedom VM, and it all worked fine though I have a Core I7 based system. You can use the same client on your PC to connect to both the local game server or a public game server, just by setting up the correct shortcut links. The bottom line is that by now, thousands have the game running on their own PC's and it will always be out there. It can no longer be stopped. NC Soft could pay one of its lawyers to draft a comprehensive Cease and Desist letter to every public server host that pops up out of this, but it will cost them real time and money to actually enforce that should those letters go ignored. And since they're not making a profit off the game right now, they gain nothing, so it would most likely not be worth it. We won.

Where is all this powers data stored? In the database/server or client?
