  1. I wondered how long till the old anti KB threads began again. Look OP, this may surprise you but alot of players enjoy knocking their foes back a good distance. Alot of us like to ahve to constantly and dynamically move in combat rather then sit there and pound.

I personally would never touch my PBs( have 2 already both human form, one a iron man style build the other a kryptonian build) again if they nerfed knockback to knockdown or knockup.

Knocking enemies around is one of those things that really add the sense of impact and and real power to a build meant to be super strong. Ive no issue with sets like MA and SJ being more KD centric as they are not meant to be connected purely to physical might. But kheldians are energy melee in concept. they are releasing loads of it with every attack.

And I personally think some universal change or even an option would ruin them, as yes obviously keeping foes on their ass up close is very formidable CC.

There are loads of power sets through out the ATs. even if you just really want to play as a kheldian doesnt mean it should be some 1 size fits all AT.

Id suggest just using auras and the power sets you prefer to play as a different kind of kheldian.

And seriously it doesnt hurt teaming. Back in the old days of virtue and now, most people Ive run with have no issue with abit of chaos from aggroing another group etc, its half the fun.

You META players need to stop trying to make everything all about optimal game play and more about active fun.

  2. for a cowboy wild west theme? Coyote form for sure. Doesnt really impact combat and group gameplay in a way that hinders your concept, and just say its a gift from the trickster being found in many legends and myths that among other things often takes the form of a coyote.

  3. I am just treating it as 2012 in the game world. I treat anyone talking about it being our time as someone displaced from a possible future. After all we have time travel portals opening up all the time.

And I have to ask why would we even need to. Nothing about the ingame world connects to 2019.

  4. Its certainly a trip reading the thoughts of others.

My memory surrounding this and the upset it caused with the players had far more to do with the sentiment that Jack E had outright lied about plans concerning the changes to balance with the coming of City of  Villains and PvP.

Most myself included could handle the numbers changes and adapt to the knew META. It was the feeling that all the discussions, the test server feed back, etc was pointless. And in time we have seen that to become something of an industry standard. From SWG to DDO we see overly emotional devs let their sense of its their game corrupt them.

I recall taking a long break after COV came out, in part due to a growing dislike for Jack E. And it was around the time cryptic broke off, and paragon studios was born that I and others I knew came back.

Yes when ED came out, the way it came out, and no clear plan for what was to come helped to cause panic in the game community. But thanks to Paragon Studios and their efforts, in the long run ED was a needed experience on the path to maturity into a better game.

  5. while I have many wonderful memories including a few RL lovers I first met in game the most epic in game memory for me involves the first 50 that really made me feel like Id made feel like Id reached some pinnacle of character building.

It wasnt long after Willpower had come out, and me being the contrary guy I am decided to finally try a classic regen, partly because at the time with RP new and fresh everyone was saying how obsolete and gimp regen was compared to WP.

So over the course of a month Id steadily climbed the lvls. he was just a generic broad sword regen scrapper with the name Adam Pierson and bio drawing heavily from Methos from the old highlander TV show. Id made him for mostly kicks but found myself reveling in his power. It was amazing how just something as simple as Parry gave enough defense to give regen breathing room against so many foe types.

So anyways I was in a group and we had been knocking out RWZ missions for what must of been a couple hours. It had been smooth as silk going. Still recall our group leaders name Miss France. this was on Virtue FYI.  We get a mission and go in. one of those rikti base or old lab maps, lots of Nemesis.

Things seemed to still be easy. had a tank, 2 other scrappers, tank and one scrap dual blade will powers, other scrap a claw regen. Miss France was a defender think empathy, and we had a bubler, might of been a troller. def had an illusion pet user. cant say more then that after all these years.

So we are about 3 floors into this lab/base and knocking nemmys down left and right. When we open a door. Its to one of them large square rooms. Big square platform in the center up ramps. walls ringed in 2 levels of cat walks. catwalks are just crammed with groups, every one with a sniper unit.

So the tank and we scrappers charge in as we have been no fear. buffs and heals have been flowing freely all night after all. But then things go sideways real fast. Tank falls. As aggro goes wild snipers firing down on everyone, soon everyone but 1 is dead. That one is my hacking and parrying scrapper. I recall not even really thinking anything except kill one more, just one more. At some point I notice there is a conversation in team caht. the tank and other scrappers who all hit the medi port the moment our empath fell were asking why the rest of us hadnt left the mission. Miss France said it was because she thought my guy Adam might win.

Well my fellow scrappers and the tank all got abit flabbergasted. Even those in the room with me kind of couldnt believe it. Even I when I was done and rezzing our empath so she could rez the others still in mish seemed abit confused. after all the whole time before I had never stood out. I was a single target focussedbuild in general the masses of mobs died mostly to other hands. But when SHTF it was good old regen that held. And not unlike wolverine in the comics, if we had destructable clothing my toon likely would of been clad in nothing but red by the end of that fight.

It wasnt long before I bought a name change and came up with a good lore based RP concept for that character. He was the first one that just could do all the crazy things like solo an AV, or run a manticore TF and defeat a half dozen paragon protectors while down leveled at the same time.

  6. Well it varies by toon depending on the nature of the character but for example my namesake Bentley Berkeley's bio contains information Id consider any half competent detective to be capable of finding out. Largely  its info found in the games lore organized and summarized into an easy read with a few rumors that may circulate about him as well as what he does as a day job and may be recognized from as he does not have a super heroic alter ego.

In the case of Demetrios Vasilikos his bio contains the how of his creation, and source of the memories and identity he has assumed. It also makes it very clear he is pro crey and sees what they do as a morally good thing, and sees META-humans not made by and under the direct control of Crey as the true threats to the world and human species. Again this is info I consider open to if not exactly the general public then to at least those in organizations or with connections to access more sensitive information such as the nature of the paragon protectors.

Then there is Invisible Falcon. In his case he is a proper man of mystery and the only things really anyone knows are news stories. And when not in costume and mask is impossible to identify. Its even debatable if this is the same Invisible Falcon that went missing years ago, a clone, or another being entirely taking up the mantle.

Like I said its just an idea to add to immersion. And to help make people aware the option exist. I suspect its entirely possible many do not even know about the option under settings.

  7. As the title says, I recall using this setting more and more towards the end of CoHs life. Turning off names being displayed above other players heads helps avoid the common RP social flub of using a name before introductions. It makes identifying by visual unique styles more meaningful and in general imo makes you feel a little less in a video game when running around.

Im not saying RPrs should have to, but I humbly put forth giving it a try. I think it adds alot more then it takes away, and would think it becoming a tradition here would only enrich our RP community over time.

  8. The Ol Berk here. I shall be working to rebuild several Lore based RP SGs over the coming months on Everlasting. The first shall be The Midnighters Club or something to that effect to be tied into the midnighters squad of coh lore. It will be mainly for magic based characters however with the new pool sorcery really even just dabblers in magic can potentially join the ranks now.

Ill also be Making one with a red/blue side presence called Crey Global Enterprises. This is an ideal home for those of science, tech, natural and even mutation. For the blue side presence the idea is to RP genuine do gooders in the ranks of Crey who believe what Crey does is acceptable in a world of META gods like Statesman. The red side faction would be those who are proper criminals exploiting fear, paranoia, and greed to corrupt the company. The idea is to also RP the classic humanity vs inhumans type of approach, where Statesman is evil in their eyes just for being connected to a deity like Zeus. That to them Statesman is just like Emperor Cole.

The 3rd will be Linked to the Circle of Thorns on and also be on both red and blue side. The idea is based on lore in coh that demons are a very lawful and orderly group, that they yes do traffic in human flesh, blood, and soul but this is because its literally all humans have that can be of use to them. One could even argue that it was the Demons coming to the aid of the Orenabegans against the forces of Mu that was a good thing. And for those that are more human over gods type of classic comic view, there is something noble and heroic in the Circle of thorns, and the chaos and turn towards more overt acts that harm humanity is linked to the lord of demonkind Valmaz going MIA at the same time the hero Infernal entered our world. This is obviously mainly for magical beings, especially those wanting to be wizards or even socialite dabblers in the arcane, or full on demons of every shape and size.

Email Bentley Berkeley in game on Everlasting if any of these ideas tickle your fancy it will help push me to get them all going faster.

  9. Ok people lets take off the rose tinted glasses and be honest. In year 1 most of the super groups that cameto be known later for their large ranks grew those ranks by offering PLs to max as part of the signing bonus as it where. Literally ever single major SG of Virtue for example that I had contact with did this.

This imo is why there is a disconnect. For those that struggled to cap a single character during year 1 those who PLd a stable of them represented a major flaw in game design favoring farmers and PLing over just playing to have fun.

For most of us by year 3 we could even solo casual level a toon to cap by the end of a month, faster if a double EP weekend was up. And ironically from what I recall alot of the hate on AE was coming from those large super groups that just lost their best reason to join them over starting their own character based or RL friend SGs.

However imo if you needed an AE farm then you just outed yourself as bad at the game. hit 10 do a posi, by the time its over your 15, run a synapse, 20 at its end go do some striga isle arcs and the 2 TFs there. now your lvl 40 and that is like a few weekend long play sessions. Now you can go flash back finish up some arcs, and hit 50 painlessly.

For me AE was always for making arcs related to my characters to run myself and with friends for the custom clues to expand our RP stories.

  10. Bentley Berkeley aka Ol Berk, Demetrios Vasilikos, The Invisible Falcon, Dr. Darkvine. Count Alphonse Crey, The Black Flying Fox, T'Keron Valmaz and many more. Good to be back in paragon my fellow warriors of virtue.

Give me some time and I will be rebuilding several lore based RP super groups including Crey Global Enterprises , The Circle of Thorns, and The Midnighters Club.

All 3 will have a blue and red side presence with the Circle being in a civil war caused by the Lord of Demonkind having been missing from his realm for some years.

  11. As others have said by design CoH was made to make kill stealing as much of a non issue as possible. You get a fair sahre for what you do to a mob when non partied heroes take part. This was to make things like the Giant Monsters be something all big or small could come help on without having to group up if not in the mood.

I recall how once I was doing my own thing in the RWZ and while omw to another mish saw a mothership raid was in progress So I fly my blaster over that way and just start bombarding the masses dragging aggro around as I saw fit to help protect groups of more hard pressed heroes.

Then the guy leading the whole thing starts verbally harassing me in general chat, accusing me of griefing and kill stealing, and saying I had to do what he said or he would report me. I said go ahead and reported him myself for harassment.

Before the raid was done he had vanished while I was still doing my thing.

We each of us are meant to be the best hero we can be, And that has always been in part looking after younger heroes in training. While there are non combat ways to assist a young hero like heals and buffs, some ATs dont have such utility and helping from them is hitting things hard.

Id say to the OP and those of like mind stay in instances and dont street sweep. Its you who cant play well with others.
