I eschew outright greifing or obtuse behavior, not poor builds or weak skills. I think if you are forming a team and have ANY expectations, you should state them up front. Otherwise just enjoy the entertainment value of the PUG Life. Just my 2 inf.
-
Nah! I mostly suck, and people invite me back a lot! Even "entertainment value" is value, even if you are not so great at actually playing.
-
Exactly. That's why I have quit most others. Secret World end game is basically repeating "nightmare mode" dungeons, and if you don't have mad skills, nobody wants you on their team. And all teams are always 1 tank, 1 healer, and 3 dps. ALWAYS. So it ends up being an impenetrable barrier for those not already uber. If I recall correctly, Tera was similar. One of the best things about CoX is the ability to solve problems in multiple ways, sometimes unexpectedly.

One of the best features of Secret Word (and Legends) was being able to write one's own front-end UI add-ons. Just don't use Flash like they did :) There are already tons of client-side mods that were done via careful reverse-engineering or "PIGG DIVING", but why not formalize it? Would that be some kind of violation of the NCSoft terms? If not, would you allow a team of folks to work on "custom plugins" API? Having experience with android APIs (and Flash, Java, various ECMA scripts, and all manner of programming), I'd be willing to volunteer or participate in the effort. And yes, we could have restrictions against combat-related functions if that's what the team wants. I'm thinking more about making active interactions less tedious, like "delete all white salvage", "move all to auction house", "put all into storage", "sell all enhancements" and assorted things like that, instead of repeating keystrokes, button clicks or mouse drags to the point of carpal tunnel syndrome.

Ok, thanks. So I have them, it's just not registering in Badger because the name is wrong there. I've been trying to volunteer to update Badger, but things have been very slow
-
It looks like I have 25 AE badges (iirc all of them) yet I don't have either of these which are listed in the BADGER database. Does anybody know why? Thanks.

How about 2024? I might want to get in on that now that!

I think people have kinda given up on hosting these. They were doing it when the NCSoft news broke, and the wave of returning game veterans tried to revive the old SG model. Alas, now that base items are all zero cost, there's no need to grind for prestige. And because of that, no need for 100-member SGs anymore. In fact, base storage works a lot better when a base is for "just me and my alts". Travel is a bit different, which is why mine are open to the public for travel -- there is no down side. Maybe I'll host one just because I can afford it again INF-wise. Where does one announce these things these days? One thing seems consistent with the old days though: only about 10% of the players ever read the forums. And The Calendar and Events feature on the website has been disabled.

And this is the $249 laptop I also run the game on (but only via Ubuntu/WINE -- pre-installed windows 11 went straight to the trash!) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B2D77YB8

I think it's a bug of a different nature. Showing more than 4 choices wouldn't make sense if there are only 4 possible alignments

nope. we were all in the zone for sure.

Are Converters still the go-to for merit purchases?
chuckv3 replied to EmperorSteele's topic in The Market
I keep this in a text file. check the market prices, plug in those and do the math to get the best inf per merit: merit conversions unslotter 100k * 2 = 200k catalyst 900k / 20 = 45k converter 60k * 3 = 180k booster 1m / 5 = 200k and usually it's unslotter or booster with the best yield. -
indeed! thanks. lots of weird noise doing these but it is all working

So I got an HP Victus laptop with a GeForce 2050... Downgraded from Windows 11 to 10, because other software refuses to work... Now after updating the sound drivers (via CCleaner) the speakers and microphone don't exist. But I also installed Ubuntu dual boot, so, I decided just to try there because why not. I download the installer, put it into the .wine/drive_c then ran WINETRICKS and used the default config to run explorer, double-click on the installer, and viola (or cello?), all working pretty great! But City Modder doesn't work so no masking of obnoxious sounds and no vidiot maps. I can live with that for a while. Note that I have previously run this way on a $250 laptop with a basic Windows 11 capable graphics "Intel HD" something-or-other. Windows 11 wouldn't run the game, but dual booting the thing into Ubuntu and running WINETRICKS like above works with basic graphics settings. I guess it's just way less bloated? Or it reports graphics capabilities differently? Either way, the game was quite playable. Linux for the win! My point is that Ubuntu in particular doesn't require tons of technical chops. Install WineTricks, turn on hidden files in Ubuntu File Explorer (a.k.a. nautilus), so you can download hcinstall.exe and put it into .wine/drive_c, then tell WineTricks to run explorer, and run hcinstall.exe from windows explorer.

When running the Dr. Kahn task force recently, the "board the train" choice appears multiple times on the menu that comes up when clicking on the train door. On the first mission the choice appeared 6 times (we had 6 players, so maybe that's related?). On the next 2 (or 3?) missions it also appeared multiple times.
