I actually quite like this idea... scaling base rech on Regen clicks based on HP

I think its a cool idea too, but how does it thematically make sense as regeneration?  Maybe makes more sense as a mechanic for a time armor or melee set.  Would love to play something with it.

  2. Some great ideas here. I would love to see most of them be implemented (except -regen aura which makes no sense thematically to me, its regeneration not vampirism).

I wanted to add something new so I tried to get out of the coh box.

Consider Deadpool or Wolverine being stabbed, and they heal while being stabbed.  This could cause the enemy difficulty in removing the weapon and attacking again: slowness and also inaccuracy and potentially opens enemies to counter attack.

Mechanically, maybe IH and reconstruction create a small radius aura for melee that does a small amount of -recharge and -acc (or to hit) to enemy and +damage to any player in the radius.  Or if possible, IH instead of a radius, it acts as a damage shield/reflect against Lethal melee damage firing back a decent amount of -acc and -recharge at the attacker and improving the players damage.

This would be unique, continue the regen theme well, and also improve the effectiveness reducing effect of regen on primary powers.

Hah! Had a demon/something to 10 ish too. Whips we're cool and all, but didn't feel the demons.

My main worry is that I'll be reassigned a healer for the pets, while they do all the fighting. That, I'm fairly certain I won't like.. The beast attacks also contributed to the feeling of not actually doing anything, as they revolved around ordering yet more beasts to fight, instead of doing it yourself.. 🤔

Well thanks for the replies. We'll see where I go from here. Might level the Robot/Force One some more. That laser rifle, while not melee, looks pretty cool. And the bots looks are growing on me.

Maybe some day Che Guevandroid will make it out of praetoria.. 😆

Are you using sandalphons key binds?  Taking a hands on approach directing your pets on a per enemy basis might give you the feeling of doing something.  Usually that means I forgoe defensive mode at least on some of my pets and basically treat my pets like they are attacks not distinct entities.

I think this way makes it easier to see the direct effect your having on enemies.  Also, it compensates for the wacky pet ai and benefits from the recent pet ai upgrades.

    I’d agree with that sentiment.

Honestly, given the number of newer missions where you end up with an allied NPC or five (a number of First/Night Ward and Dark Astoria most notably) I think something that would let you get the equivalent of a sidekick (akin to the companions in SWTOR) would be an interesting way to expand character concepts a bit.

To distinguish it from and keep it from overshadowing MM’s however I’d also lean towards some type of “you can only have one “sidekick” summoned at a time from said pool.

    Perhaps a setup that’s more like;

t1 - basic summon (on par with the current patron summons)

t2 - extended summon (passive that increases duration to effectively infinite)

    t3 - equip summon

    t4 - upgrade summon

Nice, like a patron power where youre the patron.

It's a mini Mastermind set for Heroes.

You're a 'Captain' and you lead your team of 'Heroes.'

It would be cool leading a band of Phallanx Heroes.

It's 'just' a Pet Patron pool.  Something we don't have yet.  (We have the 'odd' pet included in the Patrons...but having NPCs like the Phallanx, Miss Thistle (to tank...whilst you defend...), Fusionette (she's a bit of a nutter...but...), Jim Tremlor…  There's that many NPC heroes in the game missions it would be nice to have a power set with them and included in further mission content.

    Azrael.

I followed you and I like the idea of a pet patron pool, in fact in a previous weekly topic I suggested an Epic set with multiple pets.   The part I think doesnt make sense is having named NPCs as pets.  Then you will see several people all running around with Ms Liberty and Positron pets and I do not think it makes sense that a player(s) is the leader of the FreedomPhalanx.  Generic heroes like Vanguard or Longbow soldiers, I think make more sense and is more consistent with COH game and story design.

    Patron Pools.

"Captain."  You lead a team of up to 5 NPCs.

Opens up to people who earn the Freedom Phallanx.

You can lead a team of four/5 epic heroes as NPC pets.  eg.  A Master Mind set of Pets?

Ms. Liberty, Back Alley Brawler, The Arrows Guy Manticore, Positron and Blue Shield.

Or a zone based Patron could open up.

    Jim Tremlor.

    Fusionette.

    Mirror.

    Penelope

    etc.

Having an NPC/Pets based Patron power set(s) has been on my mind for a while.  There are loads of good hero NPCs in the game.  That would make good hero based pet classes.

Eg. Thistle, Frost Fire.  You see them in the game/missions and never hear anymore from them.

I wouldn't be adverse to having one 'honoury' ally from a zone of your choice as a combat pet.

Having an 'Epic' Pet class is long over due.  aka.  You're Captain (America) and leading your team (Avengers...) you assemble.

    Azrael.

I think being able to summon named NPCs would be cool, but fits more as a temp power than a permanent power pool. I dont see the Avengers as Captain America's pets.  I think the Avengers is more like a team of player heroes and Captain America is the group, sg, or task force leader. That said I would love a patron or epic pet pool.

    Rikti Patron Pool (Hro'Dtohz)

Same powerset, two different mission arcs to get it (or do one of the others).  I made two broadstroke versions for ranged vs melee, but probably 2 sizes doesn't actually fit all ATs.  These are all powers possessed by Rikti.

    Melee Characters:
Rikti Rifle Ranged, Energy, Foe Knockback, Disorient
Accelerate Metabolism Ally +Speed, +Damage, +Recovery (less potent than defender version)
Activating this power emits radiation that increases the running speed, attack speed, Endurance Recovery and Damage potential of all nearby allies. Affected Ritki Metabolism is increased so much that they become resistant to effects such as Sleep, Hold, Disorient and Immobilization. The Riktis are not protected from such effects, they just wear off faster.
Fusion Pulse Ranged Energy, +Energy DoT, -RES (all), -Regen
    Dominate Ranged, Foe Hold
Transponder Player can create an inter-dimensional Transponder for 60 seconds. A total of 3  Rikti soldiers(1 conscript, 1 guardian, and one Chief Mentalist (Lt))  can teleport in through this Transponder to join their allies and more will come to replace fallen soldiers while the portal is open. This power has a long recharge. The Transponder can be destroyed.  Pets will stay spawned for 5 minutes, even if the transponder is destroyed or gone.

    Ranged Characters
Rikti Sword Melee, Energy/Lethal Foe Disorient
Resistance Auto, Self +Resistances: Smash, Lethal, Energy, Psionic, Resist Sleep, Confuse, Fear
Greater Rikti Sword Melee, Energy/Letha) Foe Disorient
Paralytic Aura PBAoE, Energy, Minor Damage over Time, Foe -Recovery, -Spd, -Rech, Fear
Transponder Player can create an inter-dimensional Transponder for 20 seconds. A total of 3 Rikti soldiers(1 conscript, 1 infantry, and one Chief Soldier (melee, Lt)  can teleport in through this Transponder to join their allies and more will come to replace fallen soldiers while the portal is open. This power has a long recharge. The Transponder can be destroyed.  Pets will stay spawned for 5 minutes, even if the transponder is destroyed or gone.

    New Villain Patron Arc: Hro’Dtoz
Probably the player must be a member of the Midnighters and Vanguard.  Of course, the story could be slightly altered to change this to avoid needing those badges.

Hro’Dtoz, leader of the Rikti Lineage of War has sent out word that he is willing to make a deal with any earthing who becomes an agent for him- word got to you.  He will grant them a governorship when the Rikti rule.  In addition he will outfit them with Rikti Technology in the meantime.   The Villain never onces plans to betray the Earth, but a good plan here would be a great way to strike a blow against the Rikti, get some new tech, and possibly look like a hero for the world.  They need to at least hear Hro'Dtoz out.

The Villain uses their Vanguard clearance and covertly steals plans needed to build the necessary technology to make contact with Hro’Dtoz.  The Villain discovers that other than Vanguard, the only known entity to possess this technology is Nemesis.  As a member of Vanguard it would be unwise to rob them, but Nemesis...  They definitely have it coming.

Mission 1: Retrieve subspace radio command board from Nemesis
After the player gets the item they are able to contact Hro’Dtoz on the appropriate channel.

Hro’Dtoz does not trust the Villain. “Character Reputation: Dubious. Trustworthiness: Miniscule.”
Hro’Dtoz makes it clear he will not trust the player unless they perform 3 treasonous tasks against Earth.

    1. Get him working codes to a portal and place it where he can bring in an invasion force.

    2. Retrieve Excalibur and give it to Hro’Dtoz at the Portal.  Hro’Dtoz will not send in troops until he is sure the villain has handed over the actual Excalibur.

    4. Plant a virus in the Vanguard communications array designed by Hro’Dtoz that he can activate on demand.  Hro'Dtoz will not send troops until he has control of the communications systems.

Mission 2:  Defeat the Elder Fae guardians
Hro’Dtoz has very good intelligence on Excalibur and will not be fooled by a Replica Sword, he will only accept one that matches the correct energy signature he has. Clearly he intends to give it to the Honoree in order to make the Honoree undefeatable.

The player learns that Ms. Liberty has been working with the Midnighters so they can perform some research on Excalibur in order to free Hero One from his Rikti captors.  Using their Midnighter membership the Villain covertly accesses the files on Excalibur learning there is hope that if the Honoree holds Excalibur he may be able to mentally recover from what the Rikti did to him.   The villain believes they can now be the one to save Hero One.  An Excellent PR move that might make it easier for them to operate in Paragon City.

After some surveillance the villain learns that Ms. Liberty lays the sword on the ground whenever she goes to visit Statesman’s grave.   The villain does not see the need to face Ms. Liberty or be seen.  Instead the villain will take a helicopter and use a high powered magnet to grab Excalibur when she sets it down.

After returning to their base of operations, the villain is surprised to discover they have been mystically tracked by the Fae Guardians of Excalibur.  In order to keep Excalibur they must defeat the 5 Elder Guardians.

Mission 3:  Get location map of Praetorian Portals
The villain was right, this will be an excellent way to further their stature and strike a possibly fatal blow against the Lineage of Blood.  The Rikti are not aware of Praetorian Earth.  The villain can exploit Hro’Dtoz’s ignorance.

The villain must break into Portal Corp to retrieve the location of Praetorian portals and several processing unit parts needed to make them work.

Mission 4:  Defeat all Devouring Earth
The villain learns there are currently several abandoned portals in Praetoria in areas overrun by Hamidon.  The villain will explain to Hro’Dtoz they they will set up a portal in the basement of a large building in the heart of Paragon City.  Because Hro’Dtoz thinks he is traveling to Primal Earth he will not understand the building is surrounded and infested with Devouring Earth, at least not until it is too late.

The player must temporarily secure the large portal in Neutropolis long enough to make it appear to be Primal Earth and trick Hro’Dtoz as he looks through and performs test readings and insures the communication array is compromised.  The rikti computer virus and invasion force will be against Hamidon controlled Praetoria and praetorian computer systems not Primal Earth’s.

Mission 5: Defeat the Avatar of Hamidon
Just as Hro’Dtoz is preparing to enter the portal to make the deal the villain is attacked by the Avatar of Hamidon and more devouring Earth.  The player the must defeat the Avatar before Hro’Dtoz can figure out something is wrong.

Conclusion: Hro’Dtoz and the Honoree and small contingent of soldiers come through the portal with the Honoree. Before you hand over the sword, you ask for the promised tech.  Patron Powers unlocked. You also get the badge “Intergalactic Backstabber”.  Hro’Dtoz gives the sword to the Honoree who raises it in the air triumphantly. A slight gleam is his eyes tell you something has changed in him.

Hro’Dtoz turns towards the Honoree.  “Rikti Home world disagreements: Excalibur solves.”  Surprisingly, the Honoree turns and exits through the portal as more troops pile through. It appears it didn’t work and the Honoree is still under Rikti control.

No matter, the Lineage of War isn’t going to survive the day- they were the real problem anyway, not the Rikti as a whole.  After the last of the troops come through the villain closes the portal and opens a new one back to Paragon City.  They place a small charge on the portal device and it explodes moments after the villain leaves, stranding the Hro’Dtoz and the Rikti troops surrounded by the Devouring Earth.

    Alternate Hero Arc
There could be a similar hero arc with C'Kelkah as the contact attempting to thwart the giving of Excalibur to Hro’Dtoz.  The player thwarts the theft, but learns from the Midnighters that it may be the key to saving Hero One.  They recruit Ms. Liberty who agrees to give Excalibur to the Honoree.  With Lady Grey’s help they set up a similar trap to the villain story.  Hro’Dtoz and his forces are stranded in Praetoria, the Honoree goes back through the portal seemingly unchanged.  C’Kelkah offers Rikti technology to the player as a reward.  Patron Powers unlocked.  The player gets the badge “The Hand of the Lake”.

  8. I love Ninja/Storm.  I did not take hurricane and almost never use defensive.  I almost exclusively fight in large groups.  I treat ninjas like a single target set and micromanage the hell out of 'em using sandalphon's numpad binds - usually having them all attack the same high value target.  I run in close to stay in melee range.  When I throw in Tornado and Lightning Storm and things get melted .

A ninja or two die a few times at mission in +4x8 groups (without crazy defense buffs stacking), but the ninjas also aren't completely made out of wet toilet paper, specifically they have decent AOE defense. Sticking to single target fighting gives them strength in numbers.  I give them extra mitigation via Thunder strike kd, tornado kd, and freezing rain -recharge -speed.  Electrifying fences I use as JIC to help keep my pets from Chasing runners.  You could also move the overwhelming force from tornado to genin and replaced it with a sudden acceleration for even more KD mitigation.

Dual spec it. Make a second spec (you can switch builds once a minute with a command that you can turn into a bind or macro) that's just generic IOs but slot everything in your build including the bots for max knockback and recharge, I'd say it would be worth building the build entirely around recharge set bonuses wherever you can get them and otherwise just slotting for knockback everywhere you can. Force feedbacks in literally everything. Hmm. Can bots trigger FF procs on the master? Or would it buff the bots with it which is useless?

Make a Max Pain build. If anyone ever complains about your proper kb-kd build hit the button and show them what chaos really means.

If I recall correctly, I think it will trigger force feedback +recharge on the MM when you click the power but not on the pets or when the pet attacks.

I mean, if they want to make it so all the other Control Powers can be animated optionally as being fired from a gun, or cast from a wand, that would be absolutely stellar!

But for an entirely new Control Set, per the topic of discussion in this thread . . . yeah.  I want to see one built from the ground up which really strikes that thematic style of Assault Rifle, Willpower, Street Justice, Martial Assault, et cetera.

Additional animations of this kind would be super awesome.

While I 100% agree, most every group of sets has at least one "a normal guy could use this" style power be it guns, traps, melee weapons, or good old punches, except for the control sets. They're all essentially super-human past a certain point, and having one that is Trap/Tech based can add a lot for concepts too.

At which point do traps or devices constitute technology or science?  A sword, strictly speaking is technology as is a bow and arrow, as is a wheel. To a society who has never seen a wheel wheel might be consider magic.  The origins are far more flexible then they might seem on first glance.

That said, I do like the idea of power sets thematically based around strategy or tactics, but I think you can make a case for nonmeta, natural explanations for all controls sets.

On the otherhand, nonmeta or non super powered is a player/story contraint and it too can fit among any origin.  And it would be nice to extend powersets AND ATs to fit more stories like this.  I think its important to differenciate between origin type and character flavor/ story.

  12. I see a lot of people asking for or explaining that a given powerset (existing or invented here) is for a given origin or only certain origins make sense.  I don't agree.  Every single existing powerset and the vast majority of whats listed here make sense with every origin.   Perhaps not every origin story though.  Everyone is free to give themselves whatever constraints they want in writing character origins, but please take a moment to recognize not everyone will use those same constraints.  I especially see constraints being added around the Natural origin.  Almost any powers can be explained with any origin with even minimal footwork, of course not every story will suit you. Here are a few examples:

Natural is more than having no super powers.  Electric Eels emit electricity, they are natural.  Asps, certain frogs, spiders, and platypus produce poison naturally.  Barry Gordy's The Last Dragon is using his own inner power with the Glow, Wolverine naturally has claws (hot take!).

Also things associated often with natural origin can just as easily be anything else.

That rifle? Inside it is the spirit of a dead ancestor that's why It can be used to super powered foes (also infinite ammo!) - Magic Origin.

The Super Reflexes Tank?  She got her super reflexes through a combination of good old fashioned hard work and scientific research and discovery.  She follows an evidence based diet and uses the most scientifically efficient exercises in addition to a special "super supplement".  Perhaps her mother was a famous scientist who did the seminal research on the topic. - Science Origin.

The Bow and Arrow Blaster may seem to be using an archaic weapon, but in reality the Bow he uses is made from an unbreakable allow and fitted with nanomachines and artifical aiming intelligence(with an attitude!).  The quiver uses replecation technologu - technology

The shield brute was accidentally doused in toxic ooze.  As a result she was mutated to be able to extend her senses of touch and proprioception into metal objects allowing her to be "One with the Shield".  - Mutant Origin

Anyhow, this is just a friendly request to consider ways that every origin can in fact be used with every powerset.

  13. Spirit Melee (Scrappers, Brutes, Tanks) or other possible names:  Mystical Melee, Summoner Melee, Sorcerer Melee, or Chi Melee.

The idea here is represent the tried and true idea of summoning non-corporeal spirits to aid and protect you in battle.  In particular I wanted to add a more control-based melee character.

“You have mastered the art of summoning otherworldly forces to aid you in bare handed combat.  Spirit Melee provides a good amount of disorient effects as well as some self buffs.”

    1. Oni Fist – Melee, Minor Damage (Smash/ Neg Energy), Minor Disorient (quick punch animation)
    2. Demon Scissors – Melee, Moderate Damage (Smash/ Neg Energy) (2 fisted blast animation)
    3. Chi Strike – Melee(small cone), Minor Damage (energy), Foe Disorient (Chun Li Style Kick animation)
    4. Dragon’s Fang – Melee, Moderate Damage Over Time (Lethal), Foe knockdown (cobra strike animation)
    5. Summoning Mastery – Change Stances/ Special
    6. Cry of the Dragon – Range, Foe Taunt
    7. Astral Projection – Range, High Dmg (Energy) (psi blast/ holds head animation)
    8. Channel Spirit – PBAOE Melee, minor Damage(Energy), Foe Disorient, Consumes Chi (MM Necro summoning animation)
    9. Heavenly Dagger, PBAOE Melee, High Damage (energy), -Fly (lightning rod animation)

Stances/ Summons: can choose one if Summoning Mastery is selected.    It is not necessary for any actual summoned creature to be graphically visible.  However, a non-combat pet appearing would be pretty cool.

Oni Summoning – The Sorcerer summons a Spectral Oni to add them in melee.  All Sorcerer’s Melee attacks will build Chi while this toggle is active.  Each level will boost the user’s damage slightly.  Once the user has built 3 levels of Chi and they execute Channel Spirit, the attack will apply three additional magnitudes of Disorient.  If they have built 3 levels of Chi and execute Chi Strike, it will deal additional negative energy damage and grant the user a moderate regeneration and recovery buff for a short time.

Dragon Summoning - The Sorcerer summons an Ethereal Dragon to aid them in Melee. All Sorcerer’s Melee attacks will build Chi while this toggle is active.  Each level will boost the user’s damage slightly.  Once the user has built 3 levels of Chi and they execute Channel Spirit, the attack will reduce the target’s damage resistance and apply an additional magnitude of Disorient. If they have built 3 levels of Chi and execute Chi Strike, it will deal additional fire damage and grant the user a moderate Damage Resistance bonus for a short time.

Ancestor Summoning - The Sorcerer summons an Ancestor Spirit to aid them in Melee. All Sorcerer’s Melee attacks will build Chi while this toggle is active.  Each level will boost the user’s damage slightly.  Once the user has built 3 levels of Chi and they execute Channel Spirit, the attack will reduce the enemy’s to-hit and apply an additional magnitude of Disorient.  If they have built 3 levels of Chi and execute Chi Strike, it will deal additional energy damage and grant the user a minor Defense bonus for a short time.

  14. Of all the Armor T9s I've tried, the only one I would ever take is Moment of Glory.

    • It adds something the other powers in regen don't to keep you alive.
    • It can be available pretty regularly
    • It can mule a lot of IOs
    • And most importantly to me It feels GLORIOUS!  Raising your hand in the face of your adversary and become the unmovable object frels epic.

That said, the power is still totally skippable.  I think it needs another 15 seconds of uptime, even if its at half potency for the second 15 seconds.

  15. T9s with Crashes might be fine if the same t9 also didn't have crashes. I mean let them be more strategic by giving us at least two options in the same power.  Conceptually, it would be awesome if we could get a slider bar (toggled forms like staff, i.e. "safe","risky", "dangerous", "ready to die") on a logarithmic scale and people could choose on the fly.  At the lowest end there is no crash and low benefit.

Example - Unstoppable (which to me is poorly named, because its guaranteed to stop you):

Base Recharge: 1000s  Duration: 180s these two fields stay consistent

No risk:  benefit: 3 damage resistance,  i.e. +3% recovery 10 resistance to control effects,, also can act like a 6 minute "break free" crash: none

Some risk:   benefit: 30 resistance to damage and control effects+ 20% recovery, crash: lose 30% of health and 30% of endurance

Large risk:  As the power is now.  benefit: 70 res 100% recovery, crash: "drained of almost all health and endurance".

Extreme risk:  As the power is now AND + 50% damage.  Crash as is now + you are hit with a guaranteed extreme magnitude stun

I think this could add a lot of personal strategy and keep the original flavor of the powers while still matching them to the modern game.

  16. Ice armor is obtrusive! (Stone and fire too)  Can we get an alternate animations? Maybe:

    • with a large floating ice shield(rock for stone armor) ,
    • a few a small ones maybe floating around characters like the particle aura?
    • A tinting effect that "shines" with ice or snow effects.  The shine will move down the head and body as if someone was moving a narrow flashlight beam on the character from head to toe.
    • Give an option to make the current armor  totally transparent.
    • Something like the purple shields AVs get, except the icon is powerset themed.
    • An eruption of the give  element from the ground or sky every so often, resembling bending techniques in Avatar cartoon series.

Most players spend a lot of time making our costumes, these obstructive armors(also concealment) damage that aspect of the game.   Of course, some people design their characters around these armors, so please keep the original graphics too.

I'd love to see an update, too.

I want to see how many of us took the low numbers on some combination as a challenge and in response built Unicorns of our own. XD

If anyone does build one, Id love to see your unicorn builds! There are a few threads floating around, like this one:

  18. My suggestion:  Technical / coding / art /content crowd sourcing systems.

Talk about systems of generating, testing, and approving new art, costume pieces, storylines, characters, etc. in order to crowd source official homecoming content.

Liquefy can use HOs which iirc can ed cap its debuffs and endred.  Won't help that recharge much but the debuffs will hit hard.  Or those same debuff sets can turn it and that long recharge into some major damage (again iirc it can take 6+ procs, all damage or dmg and resistance debuff) on top of the base debuffs.

No Force Feedback recharge procs.  Not sure what would be recommended but the Nrg blast can slot them all over the place?

Thanks @Doomguide2005 There are several places I could use them here.  I just didn't build in that direction.  When I respec at 50, if its too slow that's the first thing I plan to change probably at the expense of fire/cold resists.
