  1. The SR absorb shield adds status protection to your toggles.
  2. So you current build probably wouldn't work for offtanking at all because it has zero resistances and no way to heal itself. It would work well until it didn't, and then it would drop dead. I switched some stuff around to make it a little better when exemplaring, added some different sets to get you 40% S/L resist, and overcapped your defenses to 50 so that if you get hit by a def debuff it isn't instantly the end of your tanking career. I also added in dual wield so that you can use defensive opportunity to heal yourself, and got extra IO scaling resists and kismet in there as well. This might be better as /ninja since it has an actual self heal and more resists, but I honestly don't know exactly how much the scaling resists from SR help when stacked against 40% S/L, so this might be better. But I think you could rebuild it into /ninja following this build easily enough. Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.962 http://www.cohplanner.com/ Click this DataLink to open the build! Rad/Rad

Don't slot Ground Zero and Atomic Blast for defense debuff - that's a bit of a waste since nearly everyone has enough tohit and accuracy to be hit capped at 50. Slot your attacks for damage and forget about the -def. Take your slots out of fly as well. Leave the flight speed in there and put one of the stealth ios in your sprint power instead. You should probably build around a goal like melee def or smashing/lethal def or ranged def. Ranged def would be easiest to stack on this char, I think you could get to about 30 pretty cheaply with stuff like thunderstrike and maybe up to 38-40 with some spending and the 3% def uniques. You should definitely pick up the 5% resist unique from shield wall - your resists are already pretty high, so the extra 5% will do a lot for you.
  4. I agree that resists are important too, and you're right you can cascade fail with def. The thing is, resist sets are actually even MORE vulnerable to defense cascade failures because they have less debuff resist and have less defense for avoiding -def abilities to begin with. Yes, it's more reliable in the sense that it will more uniform in the time it takes to die, but...a def character at the def cap will effectively survive twice as long on average than someone sitting at the sentinel resist cap without defenses. Actually I like elec a lot...as a tanker set. It's still ok as a sentinel set, but it's just hamstrung pretty hard by the lower caps, especially when you consider something like EA can be pulling 65% S/L and ~30% to the rest while having the exact same healing ability elec has. It's literally the same ability, Energize.
  5. Basically, Energy/Rad will have higher damage and better endurance management, while Energy/Inv can be built to be extremely hard to kill. For Rad, you get a couple ways of healing and you also get a ton of ways to manage your endurance along with what kind of functions like an extra blaster nuke. For Invuln, it's pretty trivial to softcap typed defenses, and you'll get capped S/L res and around 40ish to 50ish resists to the rest, so you can be quite tanky. I'd personally pick radiation, since I think sentinel secondaries that don't boost your damage are kinda worthless since you're already banging against lower damage numbers than other damage ATs, and all the defense sets are enough to help you solo without dying like a blaster. One thing you might consider is Energy Aura instead of Invuln if you want to be tanky - It's also easy to softcap and you can get pretty good resists with IOs (60ish to S/L, 30 to the rest), but you also get a power that helps your recharge and two that help you manage endurance.
  6. You don't need much investment to cap to all if you use incarnate Alpha. If you're soloing or doing TFs, you will have enough merits to get almost everything for an alpha softcap before 50. Get the two +def IOs, get weave, slot power armor with 4 reactives, slot tough with 3 aegis and 3 reactives, slot boxing with 4 kinetic combat, slot a ranged ability with 3 maelstroms, and pick up two of combat jumping, hover, and maneuvers. The only out of reach thing in the above build in terms of softcapping is actually the ATO sets, which you only need if you want to softcap without the agility alpha slot.
  7. This has 50% def to all types but toxic/psi along with perma hasten when using Agility Alpha, 60% S/L and 30% to all other resists. I originally built it for Fire/EA but swapped it to energy for you. You'd need to keep the purples in it for perma hasten, and if I were you I'd figure out a way to slot the knockback to knockdown enhances in the two AoEs, but this should give you pretty much what you need. When you aren't using the Agility Alpha Incarnate Slot you have 45% to everything and hasten isn't permanent - you can get it closer to permanent by three slotting it, but you do need some kind of incarnate alpha shenanigans to get it permanent. 8. Something I haven't noticed anyone else point out is that the pet from dark affinity can actually help plug one of Illusion's greatest holes: it can use an AoE immobilize that will let you proc containment AoEs. At the low end, /dark is worse than /rad, but at the high end and fully kitted out, dark is better.
