I don't get why Psionic Melee gets rated poorly. If you go into MIDS and do powerset comparisons... it's the second most damaging set behind Energy.
The animations are all super snappy, no Jacob's Ladders there. Mass Levitation and Greater Psi Blade are the slowest at 2.5 seconds which I believe is in line with other Powersets.
Please educate me! I created a level 50 Psionic Dark Brute that I am testing as a fully built toon (Winter and Purple IOs)
This seems to bear out in play. Once I got my Alpha slotted with base level Cardio, endurance issues with Dark Armor pretty much went away.
Was testing it in my S/L Farm on 4/8 and it did OK there.
Not trying to tout it, per se. I've played several Brutes as my main.
I've gotta start testing in the PTR here with different builds, since it's so easy to do.

Not sure why all hate for Psionic. I recently started messing around with it, and it seems pretty solid. I wouldn't say it's 'S' Tier necessarily without playing it more.
Issues would be that it has 2 AoE powers, not AoE Heavy and no damage Aura. Really strong against most enemies, weak against Robots. Maybe you have more experience with it than I do.

Hi! You Build looks pretty solid as is. I tend to try to get close to the Soft Cap for Defense in my builds, so I have some suggestions.
If it was me ... I would use Winter's Bite in Vicious Slash, Obliteration in Shred, and Avalanche in Rending Fury.
Also use Unbreakable Guard in Resist Elements instead for more Melee Defense.
I slotted the powers in the Alternate Enhancements so you can view the differences in the Build by switching from your Originals to the Alternate.
That would push your S/L Defense up to 42.8% from 33.43%. Melee defense would go from 32% to 44%.
That is unless you need the extra Recharge from Hecatomb and Armageddon. It's roughly the same price.
I don't think you need the extra recharge though, as Savage is a pretty fast set. And the recharge is still quite high with the changes.

Fiery Melee has always been pretty bad since the inception of the game. Mainly because it has very little AOE.
Fire Inv Tanks were a big thing back then for PL'ing however, because even the little AoE they had was better than no AoE at all.

This is my new build for Psionic Dark. I really like it. I made about twenty builds late last week look at forum posts and previous builds I had done.
I was trying to come up with a replacement for my TW Brute, who was my main for a long time. I may make this a topic if interest is shown.
Some choices I am facing.. take Tentacles instead of Gloom. Which could yield even more defense if slotted with Enfeebled Operation, but that Defense isn't really needed.
Other choice would be between Widow and Taunt, which I'd probably go with Taunt vs the fun factor extra Pet.

Disagree. You can't cap cold (or psi) resists, and you'd be hard pressed to cap fire or neg. While I'm sure you could soft cap S/L and melee defense, it's certainly not easy and not sure how you could without gimping your offense. It also has no DDR, so your defense can get stripped away easily. I do like Rad (my Rad/Rad scrapper is vet level 45 or so) but I don't rank it at the same level as Invul. I find Rad is more of a hybrid resist/regen set, but sturdier than Willpower.
I should’ve said S/L Resists. You are right, I don’t know any AT that could do that.
Meltdown is pretty good at filling holes there. But there’s no way to cap them all out using any Resist powersets.
As far as DDR goes I used Ageless and also Defensive Sweep on my TW/Rad.
And, when Defense started to cascade and a few applications would fix a lot of scenarios. There are only four power sets (BW, Kat, Staff, TW) that have a Parry. I have Katana Inv Tanker since 2019 launch… so if I need to be unkillable that’s my go to. That char has died maybe once or twice. It’s embarrassing, but it happens sometimes. -
Rad Armor is really really good. I would put it at same level as Invulnerability. Also it has high Toxic resist, which is so nice, especially when leveling.
Thinking of rolling another Brute. I played my Titan Weapon/Rad Armor Brute for about a year. I used him for farming and P/Ling. Then they nerfed TW. I haven't played him since.
You could get used to the long animations. During leveling it was worse but I got used to the lugubrious playstyle. It's easier to build momentum in the final playstyle. Also, you don't mind long animations so much when you crush the things really hard at the end of it.
Rad Armor is really really good. It's definitely top tier. It's easy to cap all of your resists and S/L Melee Defense out... but, then you get Meltdown, which is a straight up damage boost, and "oh Sh*t Button" with no downside. Unstoppable got me killed so many times in live and on my Tanker on HC, it's pretty unusable.
Taunt Aura Beta Decay lowers defense and to-Hit on Mobs. If that's not enough agro and you like to team you can add Taunt to the mix to be extra Aggrolicious to mobs.
Also it has high Toxic resist, which is so nice, especially while leveling you are laughing at the puke damage from Hydra and Zombies.
I made a Rad/Fire Brute I use for farming, P/Ling and well anything. The Build has S/L Defense soft-capped and S/L resists capped as well, so it's ready for anything.
Rad Melee is super strong and pairs well with Fire. Fire is not just a one trick Pony.
Not sure what I am going to go with for the next one though. Maybe another Rad Armor since it's so durable.

A lot of it is playstyle and Style. There are a lot of viable choices. Suggest trying several different toons to get a feel.
I tried out several AT's and ended up doing a final build using Plant/Savage/Ice. Savage does decent damage. It has Builder and Consumer powers kinda like Water Blast. This mechanic is easy to use and you don't need all of the Builder powers. It's more melee oriented but has a Teleport and has several ways to mostly stay out of melee. You need to study the powers and plan for a damage rotation.

This is a new build I came up based on what Shinobi said about Sleet and Seeds, and the Enjoy's build and comments about playstyle.
Final power choice is somewhat open.

I play plant/thorny not savage, but if you would like I can share that build. My plant/thorny does not have very standard methods of slotting. It is built around my playstyle and is consistently played with sg base buffs and amplifiers.
Sure! Please post it. It's interesting to see what other players come up with, although I realize our playstyles aren't the same.
One thing cool about CoH is you don't have to use cookie cutter builds.
There was a discussion about base buffs to help with Recharge for Perma-dom. I hadn't really needed them with other toons as some of them seem OP.

Interesting! I didn't realize you could slot Seeds for damage procs. I mainly slotted Coercive for the 10% Recharge boost, and the Ranged Defense. Can you post your whole build? I figured out what Enchancements you used by playing with it in Mids. Great suggestion, thanks!

This is my current build right now for reference. It was based on other Controller/Dominator builds I've seen and used myself.
I'm still learning to play the AT, and getting familiar with Savage powers, so this may change. I'm very familiar with Controllers but Doms not so much.
Doms and Corrupters take a lot more finesse than other Archetypes.
This is an expensive Build. But not every power uses expensive Enhancements.

Hi, I'm working on my Plant/Savage Dominator. I was going Mace for Shield and Personal Force Field.
I really like the way your slotted powers, and Ice has some nice powers like Sleet that add a Defense Debuff.
Carrion Creepers is probably your best Power, why skip it? A lot of people base entire Plant Dom buillds around the power.
A lot of people do not slot Sleet heavily, definitely Achilles Heel.
You don't need Spirit Tree really. You could skip that.
Also Feral Charge could be Four Slotted with Kinetic Combat for a Decent Defense Bonus.
I was writing this before you responded, and I agree with your assessment.

More than a Farmer
Hi, I am posting my build to show you what can be done with this AT.
I can do most any content with this build as I have capped S/L Resists and just about soft capped Defenses for S/L & Melee.
It farms great, but also does just about everything else. It costs about the same as other builds that have been posted.

Thanks for sharing that Plainguy! I hadn't thought about using the Experiment Power Pool. Does Shinobi affect those dots?
Why do you fully slot out Gaussian's? I've seen some folks do it, but what's the benefit, other that the set bonuses which are not bad?
I'm thinking I need Smoke Flash, btw. Hail of Bullets pulls a lot of aggro.
I didn't end up using the Experiment pool in my current build, I did use some of your ideas however.
-
Woah, I got a mention for inspiring your build! I am honored and happy to be of service. I do like all of the builds posted thusfar.
I haven't played Electric Blast in a good while. Since DP is so melee heavy I tried to work a bit of Melee defense in there. In game it's showing around 41% which is a lot lower than the build. Still working on my Incarnates. The End use was so heavy I have Cardio to start.
I like the Sith angle you got going for ya. That works!

Yeah, so I finally finished off the build and it's pretty durn fun! I always wanted a sword and pistol guy, since live. And the Ninaja-to damage is not half-bad! Actually it's really good.
I have a Katana Tanker, and Ninja has considerably more bite!
-
I created a Build for it ... but I don’t like Fiery Melee.. it only has one weak AoE making it crappy for farming which was my goal at the time.

Hi All,
Took some time to create this build and a Character for my idea of a melee blaster "Dread Ninja Roberts"
Have 2 ranged blasters now, and never liked the idea of melee blappers, but am giving it a shot .
I really like the concept and since Ninja has been fixed seemed very viable.
This build may be a bit of over-kill on the Defense. It was quite easy to soft cap all S/L, Ranged, and Melee Defense, but that was kinda the idea, what with the character spending a lot of time in melee and all.
One can always slot procs into some of the powers. Thing is I really don't know much about how Dual Pistols procs. So suggestions about procs would be welcome.
I'm trying to figure where to work an Achilles
I'm guessing Ninja plays a lot like Katana, and I have a lot of experience with that set.
Three Respecs later, I went out of Teleport and back into Leaping. I tried out all of the powers and came to the conclusion that you need take 5 of the 8 Dual Wield shot powers.
I tried all of them except Piercing Rounds which had gotten generally negative reviews, and looked at DPA in Mids. Other than Hail of Bullets and Bullet Rain which are must haves it boils down to personal preference. Suppressive Fire is definitely viable if slotted with procs, and had some interesting possibilites for add Fire Resist.
Shinobi gives it's Defense value twice in the Combat Monitor, it's not very effective to slot it out.
I found Endurance to be a major hurdle that had to be addressed. Adding two Performance Shifter Chance for Endurance and slotting Kuji-In Toh for both health and Endurance helped a lot.
I took Cardiac as an Alpha.
You will want to be running Kuji-In Toh at all times doesn't often show up on your buff bar, but shows up in the Combat Monitor. It lasts for 3 minutes but cycles around every 30 seconds.

I rolled up a water/elec and it's tier 1 in my heart.
I have a Water Atomic and it's Tier One as far as I'm concerned ... Water anything really but especially with Bonfire from Flame Mastery. I really like the rotation of Geyser in the first set of mobs and then Bonfire/Whirlpool/Steam Spray in the next. You get pretty good recharge with Metabolic Acceleration and Beta Decay.
-
The changes to Atomic don't really my Water Atomic Blaster's build at all.
I was thinking of doing an Ice/Ninja Blaster or Ice something. So now I am reading up on the changes.

Hi Camel,
Thanks so much for your post. It inspired me to level up a Fire/Dark Controller. I had previously tried a Fire Kin and didn't really find an affinity for it.
Forgive me, but I took your build and tweeked it slightly. I don't like running Ring of Fire, other than of course the coolness of the name.
I really like Bonfire. I use it on my Water Blaster's build as part of my rotation. I think it's a proc beast. I managed to keep the recharge and all of the great defensive and Resist bonuses you have in your build.
With regards to using Mu Mastery vs. Fire, it seems like they are pretty much equal in all respects. Same damage, same resist.

Most resistance based sets like Inv, Rad, Elec are all toggle based and don't require much clicking. Rad probably my favorite.
-
There's a kind of rhythm to playing TW. After queueing up a slow attack you can fire of your two Momentum attacks as soon as they come off cooldown.
I find it simple to play, after practicing with it. Also it doesn't play right till it's built out, because your cooldowns will not be fast enough.
My rotation is to alternate between of the powers: Arc, Rend Armor and Titan Sweep and then use the Momentum powers Whirling Smash and Follow Thru.
Also Defensive Sweep stacks Defense like other Defensive powers and is great for keeping up Melee Defense.

I found the animations plenty snappy but of greater concern is enemy resistance to Psionic damage to an unbalanced degree.
