my main question is where can the 5 slots on mind-link go/do i need this power and what should i get instead?

can i do enough damage to run solo if i want to.

Why  not frankenslot Mind Link instead with a collection of Defense/Recharge and ToHit/Recharge IO set pieces? I don't have a fort but that's what I did on my NW. It worked wonders on its near perma state.

i did consider that that build is a tad bit old

with this one i needed the recharge from the set to get hasten to perma and by that its perma as well. in the alt build i did that its perma and hasten is .3 secs from perma do not think that will change much at all.
