Hi all

Im quite new to the game and only have limited experience on the ins and outs of creating a good build. So was just wondering whether anyone has any suggestions regarding an energy melee/shield def brute. I have a concept for the toon that I enjoy and want to stick with the power choices.

Any builds or suggestions are welcomed

Thank you all for ur time

I strongly recommend AGAINST Energy Melee until the dev team has given it some love.  Current issues with it (multiple stemming from slow animations) include:

1:  Lack of AoE.

2:  The animations are so slow that you'll get caught up in one when you need to react defensively to something.

3:  Due to the slow ST animations, your hits will often be "wasted," because by the time they connect, teammates will likely have killed that mob already.

4:  Related to the above, which someone termed "corpse blasting," your T9 burns some of your health every time you fire it off, hit or miss, or even if you're hitting something that's already dead.  This will be exacerbated by a defensive set that lacks heals, like Shield.

I say all this as someone who took an Energy/energy brute to 50, mind.  I've heard good things about Psi or Rad melee as alternatives.

Ty for ur imput it is appreciated. I may have to look at another alt as my primary powerset. Unfortunately I don't see Psi or Rad fitting into the concept, but uve given me food for thought.

Ty for taking the time to respond

I've heard Energy Melee IS on the dev team's To-Do list, at least....but don't know when they'll get to it.  They may try and implement some of the changes to Energy Assault, which might work well.

The most frustrating character I ever played to 50 was a Stone/Energy tanker back in issue 6 before Energy Melee was nerfed.  It was a mediocre set that was somewhat redeemed by an extremely good tier 8 power, Energy Transfer, that had the highest single target damage around and had a very fast animation.

Well, sometime in the issue 7-8 era the Dev's decided it was too good and changed it's under 1 second animation for one that took roughly 3 seconds.  I believe there may have been some other nerfs as well but after all this time that's the one I remember; and the character went from marginal to the only level 50 I ever deleted.

There's lots of good melee sets out there but Energy is not one of them.  I've been partial to Street Justice, there's just something that makes you smile when you kick the guy in the nuts.  One of the popular pairings with Shield is Electric; it's a beast in AOE damage, particularly once the build matures, but it pays for it with mediocre single target damage.  I've played it as a Stalker and its great at killing large numbers very quickly.  A Brute would be a bit slower killing but would be more durable.

Guardian Survivor, occasional tanker and player of most AT's.

I made one just because i made other brutes already and wanted a challenge.  I guess it will be good to have a build going for when/if the devs give it some love.  I'm tweaking this build now,  give it a look and tell me what you think
