Is this game really supposed to heat up GFX cards?

The game engine is older. It is amazing what it can do and that things still look pretty decent.

 

It doesnt use the optimizations that later versions of dx/ogl implemented to increase efficiency and reduce power consumtion.

 

It would be awesome to see the engine modernized.  Not sure who would do the work or how it could be paid for -- awesome non-the-less.
