SJ/Ninjitsu First Attempt

Hello all!

 

This is my first real attempt at a build in MIDS and I need some advice from the experts here! 

 

I was trying to hit the incarnate defense softcap that I keep reading about for melee, ranged and AOE (I've seen 58.75% and 59%) while keeping end costs down.  I can't seem to squeeze any more recharge out of the build though. 

 

I wouldn't usually take both Initial Strike AND Heavy Blow but I figured another filler attack with good set bonuses would help fill the gap of not having great recharge.  Plus, I was having a hard time finding another good Ranged Def bonus so I used two full sets of Mako's. 

 

I don't like using mules but that's exactly what I did with Stealth and Invisibility for those two LOTG's. 

 

I originally REALLY wanted Shuriken and Exploding Shuriken in the build but I just don't think it will work with all of the other things I'm trying to accomplish that I listed above.

 

I'm hoping that I pasted this build to the forum correctly...please let me know if it's ok!

 

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated on how I can make this a better build.  Money/Influence is no object so go wild if it helps the build!

The build looks solid at first sight. I think i would drop initial strike and the concealment pool to pick up the leadership pool with Maneuver, Assault and Vengeance. Also using Red Fortune in Weave, Maneuver and maybe in Ninja Reflexes could help the ranged Defense. 

 

But if i see you skip the utility powers of Ninjitsu, you may consider rolling Super Reflexes, EnA or even Invul instead. Are you sold on Ninjitsu?

Thank you for taking a look!  I'll try another version with your suggestions! 

 

Ya, the toon already exists and is at level 50.  He was originally (loosely) a Batman inspired toon which is why I wanted the shurikens in there so bad.  They got phased out (along with Smoke Flash and Caltrops) when I realized I couldn't get a good build and started to move away from "theme."      

 

I had actually been thinking of just making a new one as a SJ/SR so maybe that IS the way to go.  I definitely like the idea of using Quickness. 

 

So, is the old 45% softcap just not viable anymore for endgame content?  I've seen so much about the 59% softcap but I'm not sure what all is actually applies to.

I just made a quick SJ/SR to see what it could look like.  Melee def seems a tad high at 65.4% but I wasn't sure how effective the 80.32% DDR would be.  I'm still learning.

Since you are already 50 I wouldn't give up on the concept.  I do a lot of builds around the natural Batman-like characters.  Here is a build you could consider for this character.

 

I would also suggest looking at other options for some of the temporary type powers to flesh out your character concept.

 

You can get a Smoke Flash temp power from the P2W vendor as well as a Grenade.  You can also leverage Day Jobs to get some of the Day Job Powers to help the concept.

 

I would say 45% is still perfectly viable for end game content.  One thing I do is get the Blessing of Tielekku power from the DA story Arcs to increase my defense a bit (2.81%) and I also take the T9 for emergencies.  You can, of course, use inspirations when needed.

On another note, I looked at your build in Mids and there is nothing wrong with it.  You have good defenses and good S/L resist.  I played a Stj/SR and it is a great character and I am now looking at doing Stj with SD and Ninjitsu.  The good thing about Ninjitsu is you get the Heal power, which means your Destiny incarnate slot can be used for Ageless.  I do think the Stealth and Invisibility is going overboad unless you are planning to take Phase Shift.  If not you might as well just add a stealth IO to Sprint.

You can get a Smoke Flash temp power from the P2W vendor as well as a Grenade.  You can also leverage Day Jobs to get some of the Day Job Powers to help the concept.

 

I would say 45% is still perfectly viable for end game content.  One thing I do is get the Blessing of Tielekku power from the DA story Arcs to increase my defense a bit (2.81%) and I also take the T9 for emergencies.  You can, of course, use inspirations when needed.

Ok, that's just awesome!  That is a LOT of recovery!!! lol I love it.  So many things here that I didn't even consider.  Love the build.  I'm trying to find a way to get a bit more def in there to hit that 59% but, I'm getting the feeling I may not really need it considering most of what this toon will be doing will be TF's, random lvl 50 stuff and maybe the occasional S/L farm in AE.  How has the 34.6% DDR worked out for you on that build?

This is my target build for my StJ / Nin, so I haven't completed it yet.  For whatever reason over the holiday weekend I created several stalkers and got them to the 20s, so I have a ways to go.  I did look at my StJ/SR, who is 50 and fully incarnate and he is a beast.  I took Rebirth on him though for the heal and took more recovery in the build.  I find the 59% defense to be overdone.  It is great if you can get it without compromising other areas, but in most content where you need it you are probably grouping and getting buffs.  I haven't taken this StJ/SR into +4/8, but I am sure he can handle it.  My Savage / SR is able to handle +4/8 DA missions easily enough.

Once again, you've given me a lot to think about!  I felt like it was sacrilege NOT to include Combat Jumping at first but...this is great!  I spent hours yesterday working on builds using what I've learned from you and Croax's "More than just a Ninja" thread.  I'm also working on a Katana/SR Scrapper build and I will be using what I've learned there as well.  Thank you SO much!

On Stalkers I tend to use Ninja Run + Sprint (with Stealth IO) as my ground travel power and I will either take Fly or a Jet Pack for vertical movement.  I usually get SS on most characters, but that is more for the extra stealth than just the speed.  With Stalkers I don't need the extra stealth, so usually go with Fly.

 

A lot of my builds will have 7.5% speed sets to improve speed and I usually will only take Combat Jumping if I need the defense.  Otherwise I will just keep Ninja Run on.  It's expensive in terms of endurance to run NR in combat, but I can always toggle it off if I have endurance challenges.
