Perhaps it's just a trend in the industry to drop the whole "soft" indicating "software" because most of these companies aren't dealing as much in software as they are cloudware or that software in and of itself is becoming an outdated term being commonly replaced by app or application since it's more likely to encompass more aspects of executables and network applications.  So maybe common use of "software" is on its way out similar to disks and cartridges will be completely replaced with cards/chips like tapes were  and records before them.

 

Not saying the term won't be used, it's just not common vernacular for what "games" have/will become kind of like how we still use tape's antiquated meaning despite not using any cassette tape formatting.
