Build Critique: Dark/Dark PermaDom w/o Hasten

Hello everyone!

I'm trying to dip my feet into Dominator again and I would really appreciate my build getting a once over from people who know more than I do. I managed to soft-cap S/L/E and get PermaDom without Hasten. I didn't enjoy how Endurance hungry my other Dom was with Perma hasten. I felt like I was constantly out of Endurance, even with the Cardiac alpha. So I decided to try and forgo Hasten completely and I'm pretty satisfied with the results!

Also since I am going without Hasten, Ageless shouldn't feel as necessary for the build to function. Though I may be wrong! So any insight into Incarnate choices would be greatly appreciated as well!

Any criticism or insight would be greatly appeciated!

Ah that's the crux of Dominators, you either get Hasten or aim for +rchg. I don't like being forced to take Hasten and I like the build but truth to be said, Hasten gives me more freedom to proc attacks, especailly AoE onesso kinda torn here

Being chased by a wasp is the most complete sport practice!

I do enjoy the option to exemplar when I build and not having to rely on Hasten to get Domination going was really a bonus that came around from building this way.

However, I am a bit worried about my damage with this build. I'm sure it'll be alright, but I could definitely shove a lot of procs into Dark/Dark.

Thanks for sharing your build. Here is some feedback to consider:

First things first: as a Dark/Dark you've got two powersets that do -ToHit. -ToHit stacks with +Defense to determine your dodge chances, but (in most cases) only up to the soft cap of 45%. While there are some situations where going over the soft cap can be effective, you're making some steep sacrifices in this build to achieve the soft cap. Your S/L resist is very low and any punch that gets through is going to wallop you. In the end you'd probably be happier with an APP that provides a Resist armor.

RE: Hasten. Altho you successfully achieved permadom without out, by scanning over the build I don't see that it translated into more diversity. You've still got the basic CJ/Hover/Weave/Maneuvers formula. Dropping Maneuvers or Hover for Hasten would dramatically improve the build.

RE: specific powers

  • Nightfall is a very very narrow cone. Most people skip it.
  • Fearsome Stare: Most people slot this for -ToHit and ignore Terrify OR they x6 slot Superior Ascendancy of the Dom in order to get the +Damage proc to fire
  • Possess: By not slotting the sixth slot of Coercive Persuasion here you're missing out on +5 Range defense, which is too big a bonus to justify skipping IMO
  • Moonbeam: You want a second damage proc here, this power procs reliably and hits like a truck
  • Fly: Some people take this for flavor. That's fine, just be aware that Fly is basically a powerpick spent on a costume option. You can fly just as easily with a vendor jetpack.
  • Heart of Darkness: I don't recommend skipping this, it's just as strong as the stun Fire/Earth/Gravity get, only different in that it's a PBAoE.

HOD is also a pretty good proc-nuke at the  moment.  Since you're under permadom you don't really need to slot it for mez.

I posted my take on Dark/Dark a month or so ago, fwiw - maybe it gives you some ideas:

After playing around with it more, I am noticing Nightfall is a bit underwhelming to say the least.

I originally had the 6 piece in Stare but I made some moves for some extra recharge, however if I dropped Nightfall the ATO would definitely go back in there and I would probably put Grav Anchor into Living shadows instead.

The changes to Possess and Moonbeam are easy eough especially if I take some of the slots out of Hover and drop Combat Jumping for Hasten. That gets me the two slots.

How would you slot Heart of Darkness? It looks pretty effective as a proc nuke like Brasilgringo said, so I'd probably default to that.

As for the resistances I would definitely need to play around a lot more with my build I think.

I'll see how Hasten affects me on the Test server. Having to rely on Cardiac or Ageless isn't ideal, but it may be worth it in the end.

Thank you for your insight! I'll definitely be using what I can!

How's your survivability been without the soft caps? I read over your thread before posting since it was very close to what I was trying to achieve.

I'll admit I avoided the PBAoEs because I didn't want to get into melee at all. But considering how underwhelming Nightfall is, I will most likely switch it to HoD instead. Maybe see if I can fit Engulfing Darkness in there too since I'll be in range to use it anyway.

Survivability was OK given that you pain the mobs with Fearsome Stare -- my build had like 38% def to S/L/R before applying FS to-hit debuffs and the other to-hit debuffs of dark powers, amplified if you used Gather Shadows first (since it's like power boost).  Engulfing Darkness and HOD both gave good to-hit buffs over a decent PBAOE area.

The issue was more damage feeling anemic, which is why I shelved the toon.

I slotted it with Absolute Amazment Ac/Rcrg (boosted I think), Fury of Glad -Res, and 4 damage procs.   On my Dark/Savage dom, I added a 5th damage proc in place of the -RES from Fury of Glad.

My Dark/Savage dom just rips face compared to the Dark/Dark build i used:

That build looks really fun! I might play around with something similar if this Dark/Dark doesnt pan out. Thank you!
