Been feeling like doing a Fire/ 'troller lately and trying to figure out what secondary might be cool with it.  Time struck me as potentially a really good mix, both in mechanics and visual style (since Time animations look kinda smoke-y, too). But thinking on it, I don't feel like it's a combo I see very often.

I'm gonna give it a shot either way, but I'm curious if anyone has experience with it and can vouch for it being such a hidden gem.

+1 to the above. The 20s weren't fun, but I was using common IOs. I parked it at 32 in case I want to get back to it, but I would be adding in some better IOs to make the ride a bit smoother.

It's a fun and rewarding combo just absolutely brutal on End if you run both PBAoE toggles constantly

Yeah, I played a bit in Mids' and the one limitation looked like it might be massive end drain.  Appreciate both the responses.

I figure if I can get Plant/storm to 50 on common IOs, there's no reason not to get a Fire/time there as well. You basically have to moderate how much you do as going all out will purge your end bar. Hit Health and Stamina with the obvious procs and see what recovery bonus you can find even on the cheap level until you can go for a final build.

Fire/ is one of my favorite primaries.  And /Time offers so much to it.  But the End is really the problem.  You might want to consider the Primal Forces Epic Pool.  Power Boost+Farsight is an amazing defense mechanism and you'll be tanky enough to be running into those fights head first.  As long as you don't build a proc build, Ageless will save you from all your End problems.  Stick with it through those tough levels and get yourself some End Redux for your toggles and +End procs (all 3 in health and the 1 in Stamina) and it becomes a slight bit better.

Personally, I got XP boosters and ran through lower levels on mine.  You'll be really happy with it in the end, I am sure.

Oh and DO NOT FORGET the Knockback to Knockdown proc in Bonfire.  Yes Fire Cages has that effect, but opening with Bonfire is a lot nicer than opening with Cages.

I guess I owe you more than that.  Lately I've been on a kick of doing indirect/passive damage, and I came up with this build.  Everyone is correct that you need to keep an eye on your endurance, but there are so many tools to do that that it's not a big deal.  There is so much control going on in this build:  hard control, soft control, indirect control.  Would I say that there is a plethora of control?  Well, you're not going to want to spam fire cages every time it's up, but there is almost always a button you can be pushing that is going to either buff your team or harm your enemies.

I wouldn't want to play this on SOs, but you can make some really fun things happen with IOs.  I just dinged 41 and I'm playing at +3/x5.  Sometimes I get mezzed and that drops Hot Feet and Time's Juncture.  I've got knockdown slotted all over the place, and it's just a laugh riot.  Endurance issues become more manageable with ancillary/patron pools.  Primal Forces gets you Conserve Power for endurance help, but I think people want the pool mostly for Power Boosted Farsight.  I'm currently using Mu Mastery for Power Sink up every 45-60 seconds, but will consider Soul Mastery for Dark Consumption (with a much slower recharge, but a significant damage component).

A typical combat will begin with laying down Smoke, then Flashfire.  If the bosses are dangerous, I'll lock one down quickly with Char and Timestop.  Toss down Bonfire and Distortion Field, then Fire Cages to keep everyone in one spot.  Probably throw in a Temporal Mending at this point and now it's just playing it by ear.  My build isn't great for quick single target damage, and I am certainly no expert in either Fire Control or Time Manipulation, but I find this combo powerful and *extremely* amusing.

For your perusal (still in progress, some of the enhancements are placeholders for DSOs or Ice Minstrel that aren't in Mids yet):
