1-10 Keys Targeting Team Members, Not Powers

Was trying out the new Dr. Aeon SF and about halfway through, my keys started performing a different function. When I hit number keys, it targeted my allies of the appropriate number instead of firing the powers in my main tray. This was exceedingly obnoxious, since I was playing my empathy def, and suddenly targeting teammate #7 instead of throwing Heal Other on teammates #1-6 meant more than a few deaths. Eventually I learned to click the powers in the tray via mouse, but it was slower.

 

Anyone else have this problem? I presume I can fix it in the Keymapping heading or something, but I don't know why it'd suddenly switch like that.

Using the NumPad keys to target teammates (and pets) for buffs etc, is a very useful and efficient mapping. But I don't think I've ever seen any deliberate mapping to use the top-line keys. And since the default binds have absolutely nothing that targets team mates/pets, it must be something you loaded that had unexpected side effects.

 

The fix is to reload your binds, which should overwrite all faults and glitches.

 

If you don't have your binds saved, all you can do is reset to the full set of defaults with /keybind_reset or /unbindall (which does not "unbind" but resets just like the first one).

 

I always suggest that players, even those who shun custom binds, save their binds so that they can be quickly reloaded/reset when weird glitches like this happen.

• For all alts, use /bindsave to write a localized keybind file. When it glitches, use /bindload to reset everything. (This would be the same as just the reset above, but will preserve any little tweaks you might have added.)
• For individual alts, use /bindsavefile filename and /bindloadfile filename... so you can keep a blaster mapping and a brute mapping separate.

But that, plus /wdwsave and /wdwload, are great for fast fixes when something gnarfs your keys or windows.

So, Shift+#1-8 will target your team members. If you're hitting just the number and targeting your teammates it could mean your shift key is stuck down.

 

If your shift key is not stuck, alt+tab is usually enough to fix the problem. It might have something to do with window's "Sticky Keys"?

I guess that was it. I tried playing today (after shutting the computer down for the night and restarting it in the morning) and everything seems normal. Probably wasn't caps lock, since I was typing and communicating normally. I probably held down Shift for 8 seconds or whatever the Sticky Keys requires.
