Game Freezes Up Immediately

For several months now the game has frozen up on me every now and then.  What will happen is the screen will go black and I can hear things in the background, but after a few seconds, my computer will restart automatically.

 

Recently, it was getting pretty bad, freezing up every time I was in a situation where there were lots of other people and explosions and such, so I turned my graphics down to the lowest possible settings.  Now the game will freeze up immediately every time I load up a character.

 

Here's the crazy thing, though - If I go to the beta servers, where my graphics settings are not turned down low, the game will play completely normally with no freezing whatsoever!  What gives?!

 

Does anyone have any idea what in the world is going on here or how to fix it?  I would turn my settings back to "Recommended" or "Performance" on the normal servers if I could, but the game doesn't last that long and freezes before I get the chance.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, but that's a no-go.

 

Any ideas?

I would try verifying your files on the launcher.

One launcher screen click on the ... on the bottom right of the little Homecoming window on the launcher and select "verify".

 

Are you running any add-ons or have you done any modifications to the game?

If so, think about uninstalling them.

 

If you have an older machine/hard drive, you might want to uninstall, run system maintenance, and then reinstall. It's possible some of the game files might be written on sectors of the hard drive that have gone bad or are going bad.

Also try Gfxreset (Command Line Parameter).

Thank you all for the help.  The issue has been fixed.  I was able to reset everything and now it's back to functioning the way it did before.  This still isn't ideal, as it does still crash, but at least now it's not all the time 🙂
