Noted that a PPD duo next to one of the scientists that I was kidnapping starting fighting with the Longbow that were guarding the scientist.

That actually happens in a LOT of missions. Like when the Skull boss defeats nearby spawns of Skulls. Rikti blasting their own reinforcements. And more.

 

(Edit: Skull example is from a Lords of Death mission. Rikti example is from multiple Rikti missions where ambushes spawn.)

I have noticed it on occasion as welll elsewhere, but wanted to note a specific instance right after I experiences it

This happens in the later SSA1 ("Who Will Die?") episodes 5 (and extra Darrin Wade spawns, who cons friendly to blue) and 6 (PPD con/act as enemies to blue & Penny)
