Mr. Rivers

[SFMA] A dead man owes an old debt to a shadowy creditor. Your task? Collect it. Without losing your soul

L30-35

Mostly stock villains (with a couple of interesting cameos from RI Villains).

Design Notes for the interested/curious:

Spoiler
  • Mish Titles and intro excerpt: Lyrics from Pete Townsend's The Sea Refuses No River
  • Inspiration: Listening to Nick Drake’s The River Man, which is hard to pin down, but has a feel of death to it, and how everyone eventually pays the piper (to to speak). Fused this with elements of the movie Angel Heart, in which the devil made a deal with a crooner named Johnny Favorite, who reneged, changed his identity, and reemerged as the very detective hired by "Louie Cyphere" to track down Favorite only to discover he was seeking himself.
  • Mythology tie in: Drew inspiration from the story of Orisis, who is killed by his brother, Set. Set is later brought to justice by Horus. Siriso, Seth Ball and Harpocrates are analogues for these characters (Harpocrates being the Greek adaptation of Horus).
  • Freaks: I just absolutely hate them. But considering the cybernetics tie in, and use of Lore on the hijacking of the Crey shipment, it was logical they'd play a role. Promethean Security is mentioned among the Historical Villains roster, so I wove that in as part of the Freak origin story.
  • RK-A: Is a play on the Russian for river, reka. Did a shallow dive on chemistry. Discovered the recombinant info, in which "K" is a constant. Figured Siriso's designs had something to do with increasing tolerances for cybernetic augmentation, which explains why the Freaks are able to fuse so much hardware into their systems.
  • Freak bosses: pretty vanilla, though I threw in old funk/R&B references in their dialogue, namely quotations from songs: More Bounce to the Ounce, Don't Disturb This Groove and You Dropped a Bomb on Me. THAT was fun.

Thanks for playing,

Crane
