Elec/Rad Build Help

Hello! I am very new to the game and was hoping someone could help me with a cheap build. I have been searching online but only able to find builds that cost a fortune with the best of the best stuff. Of course I would love to be at that point however at the moment id like to get something going for some slow cheap farming but also be able to be a viable tank for taskforce and incarnate missions and such.

I know it's a lot to ask but if anyone had any spare time to help me out thatd be great. I'm having a pretty hard time in mids being such a noob, maybe even if you dont have time for a mockup build Id still be willing to take some advice on elec/rad. Thank you very much!

Thank you very much! I do have a few questions if you don't mind.

May I ask why I should take Boxing and Kick but not Tough?

I see that Super Jump has 2 slots and I heard Slow Resist is really good but wouldnt that set only be effective if I have Super Jump active while in combat? If so, wouldn't that eat up extra endurance?

And why didn't you take Proton Sweep or Devastating Blow, are they weak for some reason?

Set bonuses (including the winter's gift unique) work regardless of if the power is used or not, so no, Super Jump wouldn't have to be on.

 

I personally like proton shift and Devastating Blow, but they were likely skipped on that build because they have long-ish animation times.

 

I am not looking at the build, so I can't comment on not taking tough, but perhaps the build is capped to S/L resist without it?

And S/L res are at 83.2%. Tough brings it to 90% which I'm assuming is probably why it wasn't taken because it may not be worth it for only 6.8% more?

Cross Punch has the Superior Avalanche set which I'm guessing is mainly for the set bonuses. If I got rid of Cross Punch and Boxing I could put the same set in Proton Sweep or Devastating Blow and also get an extra ability like Maneuvers or Assault. I hear people say they don't like getting Maneuvers on a tank but it boosts defenses which are very low on Electric and also helps the team. Is the endurance cost just not worth it or something? Or even Assault for a team damage boost? Or maybe even just Tough for the 6.8% res?

Cross Punch is actually a decent cone attack, and taking both Boxing and Kick increases its damage.

 

The Superior Might of the Tanker process (recharge/+resist) grants 6.7% resistance to all and can be up pretty much constantly (and can stack with itself).  Mids, however, doesn't show the resistance it provides in the totals tab. So there's the reason why Tough isn't needed.

 

I'm on my phone, so still haven't gotten to look at Mids, but hearing Superior Avalanche tells me this is not a beginner's build.  The non-superior version of Winter IOs (not including Winter's Gift) regularly sell for 20,000,000+ for each enhancement.  Additionally, you can only slot the Superior version (or use a catalyst to turn a regular into a superior) at level 50.

It has been a bit of time but IIRC, the thinking was that while not quite capped to S/L resist:

• The build is close to S/L resist cap
• The scaling resistance IO in Weave needs something to do
• The ATO would also pretty trivially get there
• All the above would apply without paying the endurance cost of Tough
• By having both Boxing and Kick, Cross Punch's damage and recharge bonuses are both improved.

Certainly, Tough could be used. I just didn't think it was absolutely necessary.

I have never been a big fan of Proton Sweep (though it is not so completely horrible that there is agreement it should be skipped--some like it, some do not) and figured there was more mileage to be had out of Cross Punch. It has comparable damage and speeds recharge. The primary benefit of Proton Sweep is Contamination, which you can get elsewhere, and you should not need the healing from consuming it.

Some parts of builds are aspirational (i.e., something you work towards after other things are in place). While waiting to collect the pieces of Avalanche, Obliterations were slotted and the only thing of significance which were missed thereby was 6% Fire/Cold resistance--not likely something you are going to be defeated by.

If your goal is primarily slow cheap farming and secondarily that of tf and normal tanking, you'd likely find yourself better suited to a Rad/MA or /Rad, /Fire, /Axe etc.   In general, people who farm though make farming toons and then have another tank focused on tanking specifically.  Leveling toons isnt hard to do once you understand how to do it.  End game, people start to meta more in specializing their toons for specific content focuses unless they're casually playing.  

 

As for cheap build request being thrown into the fray, that then becomes a bit of a counter to the above goal on Electric/Rad.  If money is the issue, there are methods outlined in the guides/market subforums on how to earn tons of cash to be able to fund a more optimal build.  Also if you're intention is "slow cheap farming" then you're actually going to make more from those guide's methods utilizing the AH than if you were to "slow farm".
