Hi all!

 

Been away for a while but happy to be home.

 

Looking to do a play through with some friends and I’ve settled on a WP tanker. Seems like it can be a pretty straightforward play through and really let me focus on the fighting/taunting.

 

My other thought is that it should be pretty beastly/sturdy with outside buffs coming in + the crazy regen it brings.

 

What are some secondaries that really shine with WP? I was thinking probably something with KD/CC (like Staff or Stone) so it gives time to regen, something with a heal (like Dark Melee) since it lacks that… or just straight damage like Fiery Melee since it has no dmg aura/buffer of it’s own.

 

Street Justice and Martial Arts also seem thematic, but not sure how they pair.

I have a WP/Staff tank. He has capped HP, soft capped F/C/E/NE defenses with soft capped Lethal and Melee defense with Guarded Spin. With 1 foe in range of RttC, he regens 129 HP/Sec.  Staff can also increase your resists by 13.3% if you execute Sky Splitter with 3 levels of Perfection while in Form of the Body. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed playing this toon. It's kinda "no nonsense"...just turn on your toggles and fight. And fight. And fight some more.

 

 I've thought about making another and pairing it with Rad Melee for Irradiated Ground and for a Heal.

 

As far as DM, it's OK. It's nice having the heal. Dark Consumption would almost be wasted since WP doesn't really need the End Recovery. Maybe proc Dark Consumption and use it as an attack?

 

 StJ , IMO, is a fun set as well. And as far as MA, that'll keep your defenses soft capped for sure since Storm Kick gives you like a 10% bonus to Defense.

 

I have no experience with Stone Melee, but have read that it does decent damage and the bit of CC it has will give you a little extra time to regen.

 

 Just remember that the more HP you have, the more you'll regenerate. Keep that in mind when chasing set bonuses. And let us know what you decide to pair it with!

The primary issue with WP is its lack of debuff protection. It only has 32% -regen resistance, 22% defense debuff resistance and no resistance to end drain and -recovery at all. This is problematic as the set relies heavily on regen and on defense for F/C/E/N damage. Despite having Quick Recovery, you will get end drained and toggle dropped fighting foes like Arachnos, Carnies and Malta. It also has very little protection against toxic damage, but you can patch that via set bonuses. WP is a set that can chug along at 100% health against many foes but has big problems with a few.

 

Staff is an OK set for AoE damage but lags in ST damage. It does provide a melee/lethal defense buff with Guarded Spin, but its KD/CC is pretty limited. Stone offers quite a bit of KD/CC, but its AoE damage isn't great. You would be better served with Battle Axe or War Mace, both of which offer a ton of mitigation as well as solid ST and AoE damage. Alternatively, Rad Melee provides both a heal and a damage aura.
