So I am not sure if this is something which is just happening to me and only me-- but I have noticed that during this week, there's been something of a noticeable lag when I play City of Heroes. So my character just recently hit Veteran Level 4 and already has a few Incarnate Abilities, but I noticed that whenever I play in PVE battles in any of the zones-- although this is noticeable quite a lot in Dark Astoria, there's Animation Lags.

I hit an attack, the character doesn't perform the animation, but the opponent NPC registers the hit and takes damage as normal. However, sometimes the enemy doesn't drop after being KO'ed and just stands there in idle stance until they despawn. So this is something of a.. noticeable lag. Nothing to do with internet connection and this game is being played on a two year old ASUS ROG.

However... last night and today have been the worst cases. The above issues are still there and are still prevalent. But last night I was playing the game with a friend, and one of my characters, FELL through the floor and I was trapped in a black area. The only way to get out of that area was to teleport out of there, and when I tried to rejoin the mission again, I fell through the floor again and this time COULD NOT get out because I just used my teleport ability.

So, I had to exit the game, restart the game and then I was stuck on the loading screen for maybe a minute or two before being able to select my character.

This PC should be able to handle a twenty year old game like this, so... I don't know what is going on.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

A couple questions:

1) What server are you playing on?

2) What is the server status while you are playing?

(The reason why I am asking is because if you are playing on the Excelsior server, depending on the time of day, there is a good chance the server is red, meaning it is under a heavy load. Then depending on where you are, you may be in a high density zone, causing you to lag. This happens a lot when events start.)

Edit: As for you falling through the floor? No clue what may be causing that.

1) I play in Everlasting.

2) When I log on, it's usually two green orbs from when I see it. Not too many people on there.

I also play on Everlasting, but I have not been experiencing your issues. Sorry. With that in mind, I recommend running a scan on your computer to verify PC health*, re-validate the game files to be sure nothing got corrupted there, and check with your ISP provider to see if anything is going on at their end. If you use an ISP provided router or modem, have them run a check on it as well.

Edit: * Check your disk for bad sectors and possibly defrag it.

I have Windows 11 and... have experienced some minor issues with the game for about a year such as glitch loading screens but nothing game breaking.

I will do what is suggested. I'll run my Anti-virus Scan, Malwarebytes and do a Defrag. I am sure my PC is healthy though.

How do I re-validate game files?

If you are using the HCLauncher, click the 3 dots on the Homecoming window when you open the launcher and select "Verify". If using Tequila, open the options and choose re-validate.

Thank you! I will be doing this ASAP!

So far Anti-Virus has picked up no issues. I have yet to run Malwarebytes but I don't think I've picked up anything. I don't web surf as much as I used to. I haven't done a defrag yet but will soon.

I wonder if it could've been a bad update.

I'm getting it too.

I takes forever for Everlasting to even load the charter screen.

I didn't have noticeable lag issues on Torchbearer on Monday night, but I'm getting it over there tonight.

If someone posts a reply quoting me and I don't reply, they may be on ignore.

(It seems I'm involved with so much at this point that I may not be able to easily retrieve access to all the notifications)

Some players know that I have them on ignore and are likely to make posts knowing that is the case.

But the fact that I have them on ignore won't stop some of them from bullying and harassing people, because some of them love to do it. There is a group that have banded together to target forum posters they don't like. They think that this behavior is acceptable.

Ignore (in the forums) and /ignore (in-game) are tools to improve your gaming experience. Don't feel bad about using them.

Running /netgraph 1 in game puts a little connection monitor in the lower right corner of your screen. Out of the way and you can let run while playing.

In the chat line type:     /netgraph 1

     to turn off                /netgraph 0

Interpreting the netgraph:

Spike shape: The height of the bar representing server ping time in milliseconds. Short is good, long is bad.

Green bars represent received packets.

Short = normal/good

Long = low bandwidth.

Yellow bars represent retransmitted packets.

Short = ISP/Router issues

Red bars represent dropped packets

Short = ISP/Router issues

Blocks of Red = Interrupted communications
