Forgot to mention - I think Googly was right to create a separate thread for discussing "critics" like Critical Drinker and such.  Maybe it's just me, but threads like this should be for us CoH players to discuss Ironheart or whatever other topic, not post what CD thinks of them.  Just my 2 inf.

"a few posters" feeling the need to post nothing but glowing reviews and loving anything and everything that gets put in front of them.

By the way ... I also notice that whenever something positive is said about a comic film or TV show, you're mysteriously silent about it and have nothing to say.  That's very telling.

You are just making things up. Can you point to where the 'glowing reviews' are?

What positive thing am I, specifically, supposed to be responding to in that link? That you're excited for Milly Alcock as Supergirl? Congrats, I guess?

I don't feel the need to post my opinion about every piece of casting, plotting, marketing, etc. And I certainly don't feel the need to come running to the forums to crap on things that other people might be excited about.

What I tend to respond to is when people post negative takes before even seeing the thing they're posting a negative take about. Then doubling (and tripling, and quadrupling, and and and) down when someone says, "hey maybe you should watch it first".

Obviously everyone is entitled to having an opinion. And there is literally no evidence of anyone saying that your (or the other folks you tend to agree with) opinions are wrong, but there is abundant evidence of folks saying "your opinion is uninformed". Because they very often are.

No offense, but maybe take a step back and read what you wrote here.  You're being just as insulting as you claim others are being to you.  If you liked Ironheart, that's great.  I'm happy for you.  I hope they continue her story so you can enjoy the character more.  I won't begrudge anyone who didn't like it though.  That's their prerogative.

I know exactly what I wrote. A forumite posting that someone who disagrees with them must be a paid shill isn't the same thing as disagreeing with someone's opinion.
And yes, I am being just as insulting. Why wouldn't I?

One thing I'm excited to see is Milly Alcock as Supergirl.  She was excellent on HoTD and perfect casting as Supergirl IMO.  Very much looking forward to what she does with the role.

That's me saying I'm chuffed that Milly Alcock was cast as Supergirl, loved her previous work and looking forward to seeing her in the role.  Isn't that positive enough for you?

Ok but that's you.  Some people like to discuss things that they didn't like, thought could've been done better and express their ideas on what would've worked better.  Not everyone is the same as you.

This thread has been a trainwreck for weeks, and the people who post the most are doing nothing but sniping at each other.

Ok but where does it end?  Maybe try a different tactic?  Ask people what they did like to redirect the conversation toward more positive things.  If you don't want to do that, either agree to disagree and move along, put people on ignore (which is functionality you do have), or avoid the thread.  It seems like you're getting really angry over silly things you've got no control over.

What did you like about Ironheart?  What part of the story surprised you the most?   Do you think it will get a second season?  What did you think of the big reveal at the end?

If you can find a single instance in this thread of anyone saying that an opinion is wrong, I will send you money.

Attempting to pick apart a reason someone gives for not liking the show (or character) is the same thing as telling someone their opinion is wrong.

If someone doesn’t like the show, they don’t like the show.  I don’t know why that bothers you.

If they don’t like it because of some drunk YouTuber, that’s their choice.

How does that ruin your enjoyment of the show/movie?

Zac...what? Your example of someone "posting a glowing review of anything that's put in front of them" is your own excitement for a casting choice? Which I already addressed. That's great that you're excited for Milly as Supergirl. Huzzah.

As to your last point: that's not what happens. What happens is someone posts a trailer and says "no thanks" months before the movie/show is released. It's how this thread started, which you ought to know. In no world is that the same thing as "discuss things that they didn't like, thought could've been done better and express their ideas on what would've worked better."

Exactly.  There's a positive post that you've mysteriously got nothing to say about at all.

I can only speak for myself, but from what I saw in the trailer, I knew this wouldn't interest me, which isn't breaking any forum rules and I'm allowed to do.  The restaurant menu analogy works - I don't need to eat the meal to know I don't like the ingredients.  I saw enough in the trailer to know I wouldn't like the show.   I haven't watched it, haven't said a word about it here and I'm happy to let others discuss it.

Seems like you don't want to talk about it though.

Calling people who don’t like a show, trolls is okay.

Calling people who defend a show to the death, paid shills is not okay??

Show me where I defended the show. You keep writing things as if they're facts, but you haven't been able to back up a single one. Hell, I even offered to send you money if you could.

I don't think that is how these forums work generally speaking. If I go to suggestions or even general discussion there will be an abundance of people who will gleefully inform me that I'm wrong if I make a suggestion about the game that they don't agree with.

I think it’s two different things.

If you post a suggestion, you should expect to be questioned and the suggestion analyzed.

If you post that you didnt like a show for reasons, you shouldn’t then spend the day arguing semantics with someone who liked it.

Sometimes a show or character just does not resonate with someone.  They may not be able to pinpoint why - that doesn’t mean they should be cuffed to a chair and beat with a rubber hose.

What might look better is you actually saying "I disagree with you, but can respect your opinion" instead of relentlessly hammering others over any objection, no matter how insignificant or slight.  Some people here don't like that Riri turned to crime to fund her projects.  Other than that, it seems like they like the show otherwise.  What's wrong with that?

Well I think the expectation in a forum is that things can be argued. And I think it's clear based on how others behave in these threads--someone goes to the trouble of making an argument why some plot point is bad writing. That reasoning can be criticized. If it's not something that can be debated, there would be no case to made for something having been done poorly.

Excraft made two arguments about the show that I think are weak. I explained why I think they're weak, He countered. He asked questions. He brought up more examples. He's trying to make a case. I responded. Back and forth. Welcome to the internet. Welcome to the activity that we have all engaged in now for years in this subforum alone. But as usual, when people can't actually resolve the debate, someone shows up and says this to the person they disagree with:

"What might look better is you actually saying "I disagree with you, but can respect your opinion"

Instead of something like:

"What might look better is if we all actually said "I disagree with you but I can respect your opinion."

Nobody is forcing anyone to spend a day doing anything. Nobody should be cuffed to a chair and beat with a rubber hose--what? Is that what's happening?

And how does you posting white knight memes and calling people paid shills fit in with this? You're really calling out other people for their behavior?

It was sarcasm.

Sorry if you didn’t catch it.

The point is no one should be given the third degree because they like/dislike something.

You obviously don’t agree with that.

From what I've read, the only thing I see in your replies is "that sounds like it would be boring".  Ok no problem, but I think that's a weak argument too.

That works too.  Same message, slightly different wording.

Everyone can resolve these debates by agreeing to disagree and moving on.

Does anyone want to actually talk about Ironheart?  I asked this a couple of posts ago but nobody has replied yet.

I suppose it's easier to be snarky than point to a single word supporting your suppositions.

Have fun in the Superman thread! Make sure you post 'glowing reviews' of who's playing Supergirl, that's very important.

Are you going to discuss Ironheart at all?  I'm assuming you've watched it.  What did you think about it?  Did it meet your expectations?  What did you think of the character of Riri Williams?  Where do you see her going in the MCU now that she's got her own show under her belt?

So in other words, you've glazed over almost every point I've made in this thread. I'm going to try that "agree to disagree thing." I don't want to have to summarize arguments related to a property you're not going to watch anyways.

I haven't seen it yet but it's on the list of things to binge this long weekend.

I personally wasn't a fan of Marvel recreating their main signature characters in the comics (and now MCU somewhat):  Spiderman (Miles), Iron Man (Riri), Wolverine (Laura/X23), Thor (Jane), Captain America (Sam).  It's not that I have something against women, dark skinned folks, or any other minority, it's just that Marvel was changing and replacing the characters I grew up idolizing.  If I recall, it really was replacing at the time as the original characters were dead or otherwise unavailable.  They ended up bringing them all back, either due to fans or because that was their plan all along.   I have grown to really like Miles Morales and Laura as characters.  Maybe Riri will grow on me, maybe not.  I'll let you know.
