Mutually Exclusive Powers In New Patch - Which Are You Choosing

This thread is about the two new pairs of mutually exclusive powers in the open beta patch: Dark Regeneration vs Obscure Sustenance from Dark Armor and Hoarfrost vs Rime from Ice Armor. Which power are you planning to take when this goes live, and why?

 

I think it has to be Dark Regeneration for Dark Armor. With Obscure Sustenance it seems like you’d be comparable to an Electric Tanker without a heal. I just don’t think res and regen will cut it with zero heal or absorb. But I guess it’s not like my SR or Willpower Tankers have either of those things so maybe it will be enough?

 

For Ice Armor I’m going to at least try the absorb because absorb kicks ass on Bio and Rad armors. But I don’t know how that will shake out compared to Hoarfrost either.

Obscure Sustenance has potential with it not costing a ridiculous amount of end and it giving recovery (it gives regen and recovery, right?). Which addresses dark’s biggest weakness.  But you’re right in that it might not be enough to keep Dark tanks on their feet.

Yeah the recovery is definitely a bonus. Just because of the better sustain I might give it a try still, but I still think it will turn my Dark Tanker into one of my less sturdy Tankers. The only reason I can probably justify it is that you can justify just about anything on a taunter if you’re running Barrier, Melee, and don’t have a crippling inspiration allergy.

Dark/Dark can also rely on siphon life (or is it life siphon) to keep their health full.

There's also Reactive Regeneration which is mutually exclusive with Instant Healing (Regeneration). And IMO from an optimization POV it's hard to justify taking the latter.

My dark/ss tank has been an uphill struggle. I don't know if I can choose because I'll surely get it wrong

I will try out both alternatives in game and settle on the one I ultimately prefer, this process may involve second builds and respec recipes.
