JediDave Posted June 4 Posted June 4 I recently got a demon/marine to 50, got all his incarnates to T3, with Alpha at T4. My only issue in his build is I have no idea how slotting on shifting tides works. I've seen people toss an end red in there and call it a day, I've seen damage procs galore, and I've seen Chance for BU in there. I tested out a few and I can't tell what does or doesn't work. Does anyone have any insight on how to best slot this thing? Without taking away other significant parts of the build, I can commit 5 total enhancement slots on it, so on the off chance someone says to 6 slot it, I would prefer not to go that route.
Vinceq98 Posted June 4 Posted June 4 it needs to be max damage. get a purple TAOE set for the set bonus. The cold dmg proc is very much worth investing. Even a few damage procs can lead to increase benefits. Every attack your minions do can proc the shifting tide damage proc so you want to max that
Auroxis Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Any proc you slot into Shifting Tides will have a minimum chance to activate on a target every 10 seconds. So damage procs which only apply to an enemy aren't great on it, but self buffing ones like the gaussian build up proc are, as while the chance remains low you're still routinely checking it on a lot of targets. The build up is great because it buffs the damage you deal with the shifting tide proc itself.

So does the guassians have a chance to trigger every 10 seconds, or does it have a chance every time an entity triggers shifting tides? If it's got a chance whenever tides procs, that would seem to be a damn near perma up time, similar to thug T2 pets. Which is cool, but a little bit of a shame since 90% of my personal damage is proc based and not affected.

In theory Gaussian's has a higher chance to fire if there are a lot of targets in range, but I wasn't impressed with the results when I tried it. My current slotting for Shifting Tides is 2 dmg/end D-Syncs plus a dmg/end IO (I was being cheap and didn't want to spring for the 3rd D-Sync). This maxes out the damage and the end reduction. I'm already running Tactics so didn't care about enhancing the tohit buff. Note, damage enhancements don't affect the +dmg buff, just the cold damage. Uuniverse
Crysis Posted June 10 Posted June 10 If you are only 5-slotting it, I'd suggest 5 Ragnarok's, skipping the proc as you've likely already got knockdown covered. If you don't want to drop a Purple set in there, try five-slotting with Guassian's (include the proc), or any frankenslotting that gets you some damage and the ability to slip in the Gaussian BU proc. Personally, across all six of my /marine MM's, I've given it 3-6 slots depending on primary. The extra damage is quite noticeable.
