Is Kinetic Melee Good?

I want to try it out, but it seems like the casting animations are way too long. The damage seems low, but I assume that's balanced around multiple stacks of power siphon. Anyone that has a Kinetic Melee, does the damage outweigh the casting animation?

Hey there - sorry for the late to the party response, but as someone who played a KM/SR scrapper main for a year before essentially throwing in the towel and switching to MA/SR:  It's a beautiful powerset, constrained by art (literally - the animation times) from doing proper scrapper-level damage in the modern age.

 

I still love the toolset and the effects, the primary with the built-in medium 'rangefinder' attack, Power Siphon, and 360' PBAoE, and I tricked the heck out of her, but I didn't realize just *how* subpar my KM's dps was until I tried the martial arts primary with the same secondary.  Mobs were dropping in half the time with comparable slotting, and I wasn't constantly waving my hands in the air after a monster had died in groups.

 

Paradoxically, KM is *decent* either when soloing, or on a trial chugging away on AVs; It's the more everyday levelling dungeons when everything dies in milliseconds that KM really suffers.  That said, it is a 'tanky' scrapper build, and if you really like KM, perhaps try the Brute flavor, where it's not quite as hampered?

The game is easy enough to not gauge fun factor by how much max DPS you can do with every single powerset.

 

Think outside the box, KM has 2 range attacks and you can make a wacky hover blaster with it.
