Cat41717 Posted July 5 Posted July 5 I'm sure it's been suggested more than once, but seriously... we have knights a plenty. But no wizards! Why? Because there isn't a power set for wizardry. The people demand! We want tom foolery with wizards! Costume sets. Wands and staves. Fireballs and familiars. Potions and cantrips. .... dungeons and dragons. (Not TM because its used in a general term) So, the question is... what gives? Is it in the works? Do we need to do a fund raiser? Because I'm willing! 1 The future is in the past!
Rudra Posted July 5 Posted July 5 (edited) We have spellcasters in the game. Lots of them. We don't have robes for the same reason we don't have long skirts for females. There is severe clipping issues involved with them. (Another edit: The Carnies get away with it by not having legs. The Tsoo get away with it by not having kicks and going into a combat stance as soon as they aggro to hide their clipping.) There have been multiple requests for alternate animations that use wands and/or staves though. Fireballs are in the fire set. Familiars are available at the START vendor. Edit: Right, you also said power sets for wizards. Take the magic origin and any power set in the game. Blaster if you want an offensive wizard, Corruptor if you want a wizard that does both heavy offense and support, Controller if you want a wizard that focuses on battlefield manipulation, Dominator if you want a wizard that does battlefield manipulation with focused offense, Sentinel if you want an offensive wizard with strong defense, and Mastermind if you want a wizard that summons others to fight for them. (Edit again: Bonus points if you also take the Sorcery power pool.) (Edit yet again: And if you want a "traditional" D&D style wizard character, there are posts on these forums, including one from me, on how to make a D&D style wizard complete with lightningbolt, fireball, cone of cold, mass cat's grace, and other spells.) MTeague Posted July 5 Posted July 5 (edited) Considering the number of Doctor Strange homage/clones I've seen, we have wizards aplenty. Several robe options work just fine for casters (and the entire Legacy Chain faction, for that matter). Blackwand is available if you MUST have a rod/staff/wand from time to time. It's not available for every attack,, but requests have been made. I have never seen the dev team say "Yes, we're planning on it someyear", but neither have I seen them say "When Hel freezes over." they either will, or will not, take action. If you want to do some kind of petition, knock yourself out. In the meantime, be creative. Design a character with misc accoutrements that could plausibly be miscellaneous magic items, relics, etc. You can use certain emotes to emulate quaffing a potion. There are a TON of tools already in game, but its up to you the player to create the costume you want, and the binds and macros you want. Edited July 5 by MTeague .
TheMoneyMaker Posted July 5 Posted July 5 I remember something from Homecoming's big Q&A with the original Devs, something was mentioned about either a planned magic powerset being in the works or something they wanted to do. Chances are that we probably would have gotten a few magic-themed costume pieces to go along with it if they'd gotten the chance. Unfortunately, we'll never know as the sorcery pool is as close to a proper "magic" set as we'll ever get. 1 COH Music: Origins & Archtypes, Heroes & Villains, Croatoa, Nemesis
Starhammer Posted July 5 Posted July 5 FWIW, we do have a Magic Wand attack in the game. It's only used for a mission acquired temp power to heal/transmute The Lost into normal humans (it will work on the Death from Below Lost Boss, but make sure everyone already has the badge, because it can mess that up). However, it could be used to make a new magical attack or control powerset, or if the devs can figure out how, used as an alternate attack animation for existing sets. If they could figure this out and implement it, I think it would open up a lot of thematic concepts for folks wanting a magical feel. 1
keyguardactive Posted July 5 Posted July 5 There was a pitch once, and it would solve essentially all my problems, about having a wand or staff in your hand as an Aura option that sounded good to me. Or a Spellbook floating near me? I don't know. My main is a wizard of sorts. Most of my alts are Magic origin. It's just the theme that appeals to me. 1
