Newbee - Character gone when logging back in

I have only played this game for a week.  Deleted the first blaster and started a tank scrapper.  After two days of leveling up to lvl 8, I logged in the following day and the character was gone.  Character name Judgee.  Can this be recovered?  Did I do something wrong? Ideas?

 

I am afraid to start over and have it deleted again.  I am also changing my passwords.

Are you sure you went to the right server? 

You can also check the file playerslot.txt and see if it's listed in there.

Yes.  I was on the right server.

 

Oddly, less that 3 minutes ago, as I was checking all the other servers the character reappeared where it should be.

You get 1000 character slots per server.  IMHO, it's best to simply "abandon" an unwanted character instead of deleting them;  You never know when you may want to revisit a previous concept or if an old character may have some inf or other item/resource you could use on another character.  You also get a respec like every 10 levels and can rename characters for free, not to mention free costume changes under level 10, (including changing body types)...

On the character selection screen sometimes a toon that was say in the 3rd spot accidentally can get put into the 2nd slot covering up the 2nd slot toon. It makes it look like the 2nd toon is gone but is really there. Just drag the toon that is in a slot and try moving them into another slot.
