BitCook - She touched our hearts and changed us for the better

It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of the player BitCook.  She passed away in the fall of 2024, but her family is only now reaching out to some of her online contacts, so the word has been slow in coming.

 

BitCook, or "BC," was an avid RPer and skilled storyteller, but beyond that, she was a truly remarkable and inspiring person.  Anyone who knew her knows that she treated all she met with love, kindness, compassion, and respect.  She was someone who brought people together, and a loyal and stalwart friend.  Her loss is felt deeply by the many she touched throughout her life, both online and offline.  Our hearts especially go out to her family.

 

Grace Academy will be hosting a gathering in her memory at our SG base on the Everlasting shard.  This is will be held Saturday, August 9th, 2025, at 1PM EDT/10AM PDT; please see the post below in this thread for further details, base code TBA.

It is my understanding that the Prevail SG is also planning a vigil for this coming weekend, though details are still forthcoming.

Rest in peace, dear friend.  May you hike many more trails under beauteous skies.

I don't post often here, but I'm most known as Aquarica, one of the leaders of Prevail.

All of us in Prevail were blindsided by this, as you can well imagine. We knew she was sick, but she never gave us reason to think she would pass away so soon. Talk when things were sensitive and serious was always of dealing with the issue for years to come. She hadn't contacted us in Prevail for a year, but there were RL things. A game prototype to complete. Sick parents to watch over. Life.

We knew her mostly as CiCi - the nickname of her main with us, Capricious Conundrum, though she had other amazing characters. We want to preserve these precious creations of hers, and our conversations. To that end, our biggest contribution to the community mourning for BitCook will be a markdown document (Obsidian .md file) compiling the characters and RP and important conversations we've had with BitCook, and we'd like to open it up to all the community to contribute. Once we've finished compiling all these amazing testaments to her life, we'll publish the finished copy to everyone.

We are doing two other things in BitCook's honor:
- We're creating a server tag - CiCi - that Prevail members can wear for the month of August. We invite any other community who has known BitCook to adopt the same, or something similar.
- We're planning on assembling on the steps of City Hall tomorrow for the vigil, 6pm Central. This is not a Prevail gathering. This is for anyone who knew her, and for those who mourn the concept of any player of Homecoming passing.

We're also looking to work with anyone else doing something for BitCook. Someone like her creates a community of all who love her - and that community transcends ideas like SGs, online vs RL, those who RP vs those who don't.

If BitCook spent time with you, you're a part of her legacy.

You knew how to teach me, so well. Really, I don't think anyone every understood and knew me like you did for those previous few years. I've lost all of my eloquence with your loss. I am devastated beyond words can describe, and any attempt to results in a flood of tears and a near impossibility to write.

You will be remembered, fondly and dearly.

Grace Academy will be hosting a memorial gathering for BitCook at our base on the Everlasting shard on Saturday August 9th, 1PM EDT/10AM PDT, for any and all who would like to attend.  The basecode will be posted closer to the event, so please watch this space or the event announcement on the HC Discord.

 

This gathering will be an opportunity for friends of BC to share their thoughts, memories, and experiences, whether just reminiscing about the good times or sharing the moments when she touched our lives for the better.

 

Depending on the size of the gathering, we intend to meet at a memorial constructed in our base in BC's honor, to the right of the entrance portal.  If attendance grows too large, we will relocate to the base's assembly hall.  In either case, we invite any who wish to spend time at the memorial to reflect on our lost friend.

I am still in shock... I had not spoken with her the last years, but figured she was busy... I had no idea she was that sick. I try to keep thinking about the good times, but it is hard to think about that when I am still in grieve... but maybe going even if I have no idea what to say if anything. Just words are just not enough sometimes. She was a joy to be around and I am going to miss what she brought with her. I am also sad it took so long without me having had any clue.

 

Lailani... Grace...  Hanna... I will miss all of your characters and you yourself in particular ❤️
