  2. The reason you see a lot of builds with it, is that it contains Scorpion Shield.  One of the greatest non-Primary/Secondary armors in the game.
    It VASTLY simplifies becoming a massive, unaugmented (by other players) Defense-monster.
    And when you take into account the buffs from your Protector bots...

    Defense Debuffs harshing your mellow?
    PFF+Afterburner!  And it just stays on until you run out of end or die!

    Now, is it possible to get there WITHOUT it?

    Argue all you want to like the other guy that is missing my point too, the one with 35%, I know from actual in game experience that the extra defense helped my build tremendously against lots of super hard high level incarnate content.

    I'm not saying cascading defense failure doesn't exist.

    I'm not saying anyone is wrong for not wanting soft capped defense.

     

    45%>35%  observational experience.

     

    That's all I'm saying guys.


    And all *I* am saying is that it's not as dependable as maxing Resists when you're on a build with no DDR.

    There's a "statistical chance" it can happen.
    Reality has a way of being much more prosaic.

    And yes, Hasten is 70%.  But it's a RELIABLE 70%.  No "Chance to".

    Sure.

    Is 45% that goes into cascading Defense failure after the first hit LANDS as useful as it would be on a build rocking DDR?

    No.  ESPECIALLY so for a TANK, where DURABILITY is a consideration and who many these days subject to exceptionally high levels of difficulty.

    Rad was my first venture into Massive Resistance Tanking.
    And don't get me wrong.  With the newer IO sets, it makes MRT EASILY doable

    Basically I went through the 1-35 game running +2x8 using the Def > Resist formula.
    And it works!
    Then I high higher level Arachnos...

    And I simply couldn't stay alive!  I even cranked it back down and limited the mob sizes.
    I was still getting shamed  (not beaten, SHAMED) left and right.

    And I could track it all back to the point when my Defense became compromised.  I basically cracked like an uncooked egg.
    And, because I'd compromised my build to favor Defense over Resist, once they'd chomped into my soft center...END OF LINE.

    So, I had a bunch of spare Inf and lots of RMs.
    I spend a couple hours tweaking in Mids, rebuilt for Resist > Def, and the experience COMPLETELY changed.

    It was such a huge difference that, upon hitting 50 on my Rad/Rad, I re-engineered my Fire/Fire and my Elec/Elec the same exact way.
    I did something similar with my PB too (running Perma-Lightform).
    Dear GOD has it made a huge difference in playability and fun factor.

    All of them still have a slathering of Defense.  But now, I basically look during something like an ITF and go "OH GOD!  -74% Defense!  What EVER shall I do?  MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" and cram my foot so far up a Surgeon's kiester that when I wiggle my toes it looks like he's talking...

    Now all we need are art assets for Cimeroran Surgeon Slippers...

    If given a choice between 75% Resists and 45% S/L Defense or 90% Resists and 25% S/L Defense, I'd prefer the latter.
    Because, in a Defense crash, 90% Resist will still survive almost anything.

  14. Suggestion for the latest build.
    Extract one slot from Hasten.
    Use IO boosters to make the remaining two slots 50+5
    Go with Agility for your Alpha.

    Here's a slight rework of your latest build, subbing in Leaping and Assault rather than Flight.
    Taking the suggestion from above about IO boosters, this gets Hasten down to 120.5
    Not QUITE perma, but close enough for most things.

    About the only real negative on resist only builds, easier to apply status effects to you.  Easily solved with a few break free's ...


    Just remember that Resist-centric sets have NO NATIVE DDR!
    So slapping you with Defense Debuff basically just hits for full value.
    This means that jacking around your build to load up as much Defense as possible can be self-defeating.
    Because if you jacked around too much, you compromised on your Resists or short-changed your attacks.
    So in situations where DDR flies fast and loose, you're going to get stripped naked in short order and, because your Resists are compromised, you basically eggshell.

    Whereas, if you concentrate on squeezing out your Resists, and are able to slather a layer of defense (albeit, probably a lesser one), your performance curve should be much flatter in terms of surviveability.

    Technically the game doesn't "need" any particular AT.

    That's the beauty of it.  You can do pretty much EVERYTHING in the game without requiring a given AT.

    I've had, literally, this sort of issue and recently.

    Was working at GenCon.

    An old Army buddy I haven't seen in a few years walks into the booth and just stands in front of me.

    It look my brain like 2 minutes to register "You know this guy!".

    Had another episode a day later.  Went into a talk and pushed past a guy who shook my hand.

    I was like "Hi!  I'm *MY NAME*."

    As I sit down it registers on me who the guy is.  I've known him for 20+ years and he's the guy who runs THE wiki for everything BattleTech.

    Getting old SUCKS!
