    @Tiresias  don't listen to this. 🤣

Why?  I've been hearing complaints about difficulty since I joined in 2008.

An utterly pointless complaint,  Whether you're arguing "too hard" OR "too easy"
Difficulty has been almost completely personal preference since 09/15/2009 (Issue 16).

Back when difficulty level was "heroic. tenacious, etc" and the Wiki didn't exist, it was tougher to tune your gaming  experience.

    Forgive the profanity

But if you want a cake wakm the proper response is "what flavor and do you want comfy shoes?"

If you want "Rocks fall.  Everyone dies"?
    You got it!

The nastiest, most player hostile experience I ever had was Philotic Knight's AE adventures.
    Absolute torture test!

Took an unsuspecting Invuln tank in.  They had ALL THE KB, PLUS SOME!

I for bounced around like a blaster so much I HAD TO EXIT THE GAME IN WOW!

I am not sure is anyone else has discovered this but I was in a mission and found a TARDIS outside the barrier. For those who ask, it is not photoshopped and it totally freaked me out in a good way! My daughters and I are big DW fans and I have been playing COH since they were little.

    No such thing!

How?  Active Defense?   Set it to auto - it's going to double stack - Ron Popeil that sucker.  🤣

The rest of Shield just runs on a toggle.

I have other things to set to auto.

Because most of the "Sword" powers are generally noticeably slower, thus lower DPA.

Granted, this isn't terribly important, when you're capped Defense and capped Resist.

SR and Shield can pull off the defense softcap easily.

Resistance Brutes would have to be Elec Dark or Rad to hit the 90 - but they aren't hitting it to all - not without a non perma buff like Rune or Melee Core.   Cap to Most is a more accurate description on Brutes - and usually all they need to be durable enough for any content.

I think Elec will hit it to all but neg nrg and toxic.  Rad to all but cold, and Dark all but Nrg.  Without being nere a computer I may be incorrect there but back in 2019 I ran an analysis on which sets were better on Brutes vs Tankers and those three always edged out tankers easily back then.  The tanker buff narrowed that gap a good bit - probably a tad too much.   My first rnain on HC was actually a Rad/Elec Brute I ran with melee core as a panic button.  Was mostly unkillable.

I - same as you - would like to see a build hitting 90 res to all on a brute on a perma basis.

Wish I had access to my build library.

Had some computer issues and the rig has been in the shop extraordinarily long.

If I had time I'd have rebuilt the rig myself,
Bur I DO NOT have time and may not for months.

Considering my pay,  it's ultimately cheaper to fix the system and replace problem parts by paying for it.

The lost work time would be absolutely ruinous.

trying this out, thanks! in terms of macros, does original post macros work for this build?

Yeah, the export function s apparently chapping the dev's asses and wont bi fixed without kicking, screaming and getting shiv'ed at a moment's notice.

It's, at this point, better to save the build file and file transfer it.

It would probably be one of the best Shield Tankers I would have made.   The durability and utility of Shield with the raw power and brute force of Fire.  I think I'm going to explore this myself. lol

Stuff like Invuln is for lazy people like us who like low maintenance builds.
Shield requires a bit more in the way of active management.

That's actually the perfect approach and how most of my build templates came to be.

Everyone has a playstyle - you are building to accommodate yours and that's a beautiful approach.

And a buuld is never perfect - but as long as it suits your fun that's all you need.

    True.

Honestly I don't like pure defense sets either, I ran an SR scrap for a while and I just didn't like it at all. My fav used to WP but something happened to it between when I rolled my first one in 08 and now. I like Bio, Dark, and inv out of the box a lot so far but I've yet to have any experience with any of the other sets. Regens fun now that I've put some IOs into it.

I think I may post the two builds I've actually done so far in seperate posts. If anyone has anything else to add for general numbers to shoot for I'll definitely take them.

Straight ALL DEFENSE setups are generally flawed,

Remember, resist ALWAYS takes a set percentage of damage off, based on Resistance value.
Pure Defense is "all or nothing".  With the RNG generally hating the living F### out of you at times.

Hi, I am back to CoH after a few years break and am trying to rebuild my favorite character. A tanker with shield and fire powers, leadership, combat jumping, fighting and fire and would love to have some advice on how to slot her. I enjoy playing tanky characters that also have a bit of a punch so working also on a rad/inv brute. She is soon level 50 and I am willing to put a lot of effort to her build as she is so fun to play,

    Advice would be much appreciated:)

This probably isn't the BEST build available.  But it pretty much ticks all the boxes you specified,

That seems to be the way of it in a lot of fields.

Almost NOBODY I know is actually using their degrees for what was intended.

You can debate what build goals to shoot for, but assignable slots are a finite resources, and thus everything comes at the cost of something else. Wasted stats damages you by detracting from building for useful stats elsewhere.

Ideally, everything in a build should be chosen with purpose - whether that be to satisfy a concept, to improve playfeel, to optimize build resources, etc. The better one can do this, the more one benefits in every way.

Now, I don't expect to convince you because your mind is closed - you've decided what is what, and facts will not sway you. I leave this for the intrepid builder who stumbles across this decision.

The point is that there's really only so much one can wring from single slots.

You can always argue that something is "more efficient".

You have to prove it, QUANTITATIVELY though.
And not just in the vacuum "This slot/these slots" aren't as efficient as something else"

I miss the days when the recipes sold for 2M or less. Takes a lot of patience to get that now.

Thing is - I would enjoy it if recipes were 2.6M. Plenty of profit in that.
3.2M or so after crafting, salvage. Converters - whether you use them or not depends on what you're trying to do. Just the big three, you're going to burn through a bunch. But if you're just crafting and placing them for sale for 5M...which is darn cheap for a pvp IO, historically speaking. Leaves room for the converter roulette guy to make some if they don't want to craft. Or the guy trying to finish his build and doesn't want to spend 7-8 for one of the big 3.

I was seeing the Shield Wall's going for 4+M - the end/recharges, too!
Even trash set PVP recipes were going for 3.4M

That was fine over the MS even when crazy/drunk/blind/generous folks were buying them up at 15M. But at 7M, nope, not going to do it.

What I found the most interesting was how many recipes were finding their way into the market. A LOT. Like 100 or so every 12 hours. and that was at my lowball point. Bidding higher would surely have gotten more, because I saw the higher bids in the history. I just don't think they were bidding for very many - which is how I got mine - at least, that's my thinking.

I don't get pvp recipes every day when I actively play content (non-farm). Maybe when I farm, I might get one every couple of days. I guess...if I was farming all day, then yeah, maybe. Either way - someone was dumping a lot of pvp recipes in the market, more than I'm used to seeing - but then again, the MS event brought more players than I was used to seeing.

It wouldn't surprise me to learn our HC devs have manipulated the supply ( drop rates) to keep prices low.  But that's pure conjecture. I've always been fairly lucky with the RNG when it comes to drops. At least, I've felt lucky. For all I know everyone gets that kind of "luck".

If you're looking for zombie-click type play?
    Sure.

But pretty much everything you want is shallow with HMerits.
And it's far more stable than the market.

If I feel the need to massage my marketing e-peen, I can be patient.

If I just want it now?  I just get it now.
I've built up billions of Inf and thousands of HMerits.

If using the @Hyperstrike builds, you should note that they have a flaw in that they use a lot of reactive armor. Reactive armor is often a bad choice for invuln because the 2-piece set bonus is wasted - invulns don’t need SL res. It is very hard to beat unbreakable guard for invuln unless you need something specific.

No.  Invuln is generally fairly durable the floor for Invuln is 67%.
There are just LOTS of places to pull Resit (S/L) from
Simply having more than enough is NOT hurting you in any way.

But look at most high end builds.  There is ALWAYS going to be an overlap of some sort.
    As to the SL boost?
Okay?  So what?  The rest of the set boosts are deeply useful on an invuln.
This is why I don't limit it to two slots.  And if a Resist power IS only limited in such a way, something else gets chosen.

Also, achieving Soft Cap Defense is relatively easy with a couple enemies in range?
Is having some unnecessary slotting feeding in MORE not beneficial?
Of course no, it simply makes operation in steady-state Tanking more attractive.

Nah, you are missing the point here and trying to die on a hill not worth dying on because - well I was going to say because you don't understand Gauntlet - but I know that's not the case.

Let's just leave it as don't choose that hill to die on - taunt is a great power but not required and definitely does not equate to a petless mastermind if a tanker doesn't take it.

    Nah - completely disagree here.

Its a tool. If you need it, fine - but to compare it to a petless mastermind or a boxer with one hand tied behind your back - is hyperbole.  It doesn't even come close to adding that kind of value - or detracting from individual potential if you don't use it.

IMO taunt is more like training wheels for a tanker - eventually you can free that spot up for another valuable power. Gauntlet and punchvoke are so good these days it's completely optional - just my opinion.

Don't get me wrong. The concept of Taunt almost makes me want it just because of the "Come Get Some" factor - but then I come off the ledge and realize I do that anyway every time I leap into action anywhere near the bad guys.

A petless mastermind. That's more like only using Brawl for your attacks.

Thank you for agreeing with my point.

You're eschewing a set-defining power because you prefer to operate as a Scrapper.

Well i had been slumbering in my coffin.  But since you woke me up…

My favorite Tanker is an invulnerability/dark. Damned near unkillable.  But one year for winter i made an ice/ice theme tank.  It was insane how easy it was to tank, because everyone in the room hated him.  It was like people were telling people a hundred feet away to swarm the tank.  At least it felt that way. Lot of agro.  A lot.

Dark Armor is stronger on a Tank. No doubt.  And the AoE increase is nice on Dark/Dark.  Very nice.  But since Dark Armor uses non suppressed stealth as a survival trick it acts the OPPOSITE of ice armor. Making it, in my mind, just more work to tank with.  Because i am a lazy old vampire.

And entire map full of aggroed "chase your ass down and kill you PAINFULLY!" enemies.

And that's just you walking into the map!

I dont think I want any more recharge procs because it would cause my other powers to proc less. And my attack chain is perfectly fine, really no need for any more speed.  And I consider that slow resistance to be rather important. It resists recharge debuffs, which are super annoying.  I prefer to keep it 🙂

plus when am I ever gonna find the time to use kick?

    To each his own.

OK week from hell is over and I can craft a thoughtful response.

Taunt - I don't need it - some swear by it there's no right or wrong here.

Oh no not at all. Fly is just my normal go to - but I do have a couple of themed characters without any travel power by relying on sprint and athletic run.

A time you might nead it. You can monitor your defense by selecting powers near your power tray and clicking into the defense window and monitor your defenses there as needed.

Attuned enhancements level up with you basically their power grows with each level or wanes if you exemplar down.   For instance at level 15 attuned will be powered as a level 15 enh. Level 45 will be at level 45s level.  Etc.

Uniques don't have to be attuned - but I usually buy attuned because I'm already in that window anyway and it also appeases my OCD.

IMNSHO, talking about "Need" with regards to Taunt for Tanks misunderstands both the point of Tanking (soft combat control).

Tanks without Taunt are like petless mansterminds.

    CAN you do it?

    SURE!

Like fighting a boxer with one hand tied behind your back.

Heres how my tank is slotted. This is my take on the classic hero, including elements from several other builds from my SG mates and other folks. I’ve tested & tweaked it a lot.

I agree about the ED stuff.

However, my personal little foible/conceit is that you're using Fighting  as a mule pool, you're better off taking Kick rather than Boxing.
Differences in damage output are negligible.
And kick allows you to sneak in a Force Feedback proc.  Sure, it only a tiny speed boost.  But it's something USEFUL to to your whole build, rather than just dropping in a damage proc without real augmentation.
Consuming valuable slots and set bonuses that can be shoe-horned in elsewhere.
