  1. Flight + Afterburner is now effectively faster than Super Speed. You know, the travel power with "speed" in its name.

     

    That's the point - one pool needs 2 power selections to bring it on par with 1 power from the other.

     

    I'd also argue that "convenience" is irrelevant in a game where jetpacks, teleporters and such are available for purchase at any time. 

     

    What you're missing is that, while SuperSpeed has the advantage in raw speed, Flight has the advantage in pure 3D positional control and terrain avoidance.

  2. I'm running at 6480x3820.

    I like my general interface smaller.  So 100% works mostly fine for me.  Though I'm bumping text size up slightly.

     

    As for the cursor?

    Even at 200%, it's still too damn small for me and I wind up losing it on the screen all the time.

    Is there such a thing as "too much screen real estate"?

  3. There used to be such a setup.  And Paragon Chat is the proof of concept.

     

    However, it's proven to be almost as easy to do with Discord, whereas Jabber/XMPP are essentially abandoned protocols.

    Also, you get  the side-benefits of Discord (hierarchical permissions systems, media sharing, voice chat, etc).

  4. Okay I'm playing on an RTX 2060.

    My monitor setup is 3x27" 4K monitors in Portrait mode.

    I use the NVSurround feature in the NVIDIA Control Panel.

     

    Please note this feature isn't perfect.

    Windows still "snap to monitor".  As does the Taskbar (with no way to fix the Taskbar).

    You'll want to tell the game to ignore screen scaling.

    Otherwise you'll be re-arranging window positions every time you play.

     

     

    Also, if you have screen-flicker on one of your monitors take a look at one solution here.

    Another possibility is that you simply have a defective cable.

     

     

    Note: Ignore the cable mess.  It's long since cleaned up.

  6. Okay I can kinda fill in on some of the things that have changed.

     

    1: Winter-Os.  While CMA's original guide was great for smacking Soft-Cap for S/L, alternate typed damage was a downside.

    With the addition of Winter-Os and the ability to convert them to Superior versions, you have EXACTLY what you need to bump your other typed defenses without serious frankenslotting and compromising accuracy and the like.

     

    On top of this they deliver large doses of F/C Resistance as well.

     

    2: Unbreakable Guard is mostly superior to Reactive Armor.  It delivers a superior Typed bonus to S/L, and while it short-changes you on E/N Defense, you actually gain E/N Resistance and beefy Speed/Recharge debuff Resistance.

     

    3: The Reactive Defenses Unique.  It delivers a Scaling Resistance mechanic not unlike SR's.

     

     

    So, it's possible to build an Inv/SS Tank (and others, so long as you can distribute the Winter-Os for ST, PBAOE and Ranged).

    Others, depending on what they need might be easier, might be harder.

    Note that the Winter-O Targeted AOE isn't quite so useful but provides GOBS of F/C defense.

    Also, the Winter-O for Holds is essentially identical to the Ranged Winter-O set in terms of bonuses.

     

    As I was saying, it's possible to build an Inv tank that's soft-capped to all typed Defenses, save Psi.

    Also, it's actually possible to run with Tough turned OFF and just mule-ing the two +3% Defense IOs.

     

    4: So, you wind up being able to do other things, like start deepening your mitigation by bumping Resistance.

    As noted, Winter-Os provide lots of F/C Resist too.  And the Unbreakable Guard provides modest E/N Resistance.

     

    5: The Unbreakable Guard Unique.  Provides +Max HP

     

    6: Preventative Medicine's +Absorb.  Gives you a small quantity of "phantom HP".  And, if fully six-slotted in the PM set, you get a splefty 8.75% +Rech bonus.

     

    This is an old-school build for The Big Blue Butthead (Hyperstrike)

     

    As you can see, a conventional CMA-influenced build.

     

    And was tough-as-nails for the time.

    I'd switched from Vox Populi's "Super-Tanker" Superman-esque build (mainly a cosmetic thing) to this.

    And the difference in survivability was noticeable.

    I had teammates telling me that my tanking efficiency and staying power was a tenfold improvement.

    This is a current build for The Big Blue Butthead (Hyperstrike).

     

    This implements a lot of what I'm talking about.

    And the basic idea is "Defense In Depth".

     

    Big Defense numbers come with the territory.  But they're now more or less universal.  S/L/F/C over 50% with 1 enemy in range.

    S/L/F/C Incarnate Soft-Capped at 50% Invincibility saturation.

     

    MUCH bigger Resist numbers underneath that shore you up against exotic damage in case something gets past your defenses.

    On top of this we have more options for fiddling with our HP caps and healing.

    Plus, as you can see, I'm building for Recharge to be able to output Damage faster.  As "arrested" enemies deal ZERO DAMAGE.

     

    Now, does everyone have to build the way I have?

     

    Oh HELL NAW!  I build the way I do for what I consider best-performance in steady-state Tanking.

    So I'm not relying on clicky powers (other than Rage, with Hasten as my Auto-power) to bolster my Defense/Resist to respectable levels and gimping the rest of the time.

     

    Also, this build is by NO means ultimately min-maxed!

    This is me hitting on a build with the parameters I wanted and going "BUILD!" without exploring EXACTLY how far I can push things.

    Note how heavily over-S/L/F/C I am.  I could sacrifice some F/C and plonk a FF +Rech IO in.

     

    There may be some changes in the future as I'm finding that Spring Attack's current stats make it something of a waste of power.

    Don't get me wrong, it's a GREAT combat opener.  But the *meh* damage and the atrocious Recharge time REALLY limits its utility.

  10. I agree with CMA.

    The crash at the end makes accomplishing something like this completely worthless.

     

    With a standard IO build you're moderately tough.

    With a well-planned build, you're pretty much the next best thing to a Stoner in Granite, but without the speed, damage and movement penalties.

     

    Okay, just went through and builty an Invuln/Spines with an eye towards maximum recharge.

     

    Unstop comes down to about 225.4 seconds recharge using a Spiritual T4 Alpha.

     

    And, funnily enough, it's not a completely terrible build!

  12. 1: Ignore Unstoppable.  It's simply a delayed death sentence.

    2: You're over-slotted in your Resists and Defenses.  Yes, I know you're not interested in Damage.  But, by itself, Damage dealing is ALSO a form of defense (dead enemies can't hurt you...period).

     

    3: You aren't taking into account your Alpha slot either.

    Now, yes, for lower-level content, it's not relevant.  However, if you're running at 50, it's quite relevant.

     

    Now take a look at my build.

    YES, your Resistance numbers are marginally better (and demonstrably better for Tox/Psi).

    However, you completely ignored several Defense aids (Steadfast Protection: Res/Def and Gladiator's Armor Unique).

    As such, your Defense is more porous than what I've put up.

    And making the enemy miss you is superior to damage amelioration (Resistance).

     

    Also note that I achieved my numbers in roughly 39 slots.

    You achieved your results in 51 slots.

     

    "The Perfect Is The Enemy Of The Good"

     

    In short, slotting for efficiency (maximum value per-slot) is generally a better idea than slotting for absolute maximum achievable value.

  13. I took an Inv/EM and Stone/Fire to 50 back on live, and am currently leveling an Elec/Staff and Rad/SS (25 and 20). My two new tanks feel much more survivable than my Inv ever did, even at these low levels. I'm on generic IOs which is comparable to the SO build I ran back then. I'm sure part of it is that I just know more now (and for the Elec the bonus defense from Staff helps), but given my experience thus far I can't see myself at this point wanting to build with either Inv or Stone in this new world.

    Elec and Rad are great Resist-centric sets.  You can max or near-max your main typed resist, generally with a slightly lower setting to your opposite.

    Same for Fire.

     

    Then just slather some defense on top and voila!

     

    Also, while I was rocking one of the toughest CMA-centric Invuln builds Live, Invuln now, due to the Winter-Os is basically just a maxed Granite Lite.

    You don't soft-cap all defenses and resists.  But you don't have the recharge, damage or movement penalties.

     

     

     

  14. I'm actually surprised that you find Rad and Electric tough enough but not Fire...

     

    Stone?  Yeah.  It's too slow for the modern game.

    Dark?  A bit endurance intensive

     

    SR, Ice and Shield have some issues with being mostly Def and eggshelling.

     

    I haven't really found Inv or it's lazy cousin, WP, to be all THAT fiddly.

     

    Bio: I'm a costume freak.  Turning into a stone goliath, okay.  Turning into a puddle of poo?  Nah.  I know, dumb reason for bypassing a set but hey.

     

    Energy is one I never actually played.  Mainly because there IS no energy armor for Tanks.  Likely because it's already so overblown on Brutes and Scrappers.

     

    But yeah, it's kinda End-heavy for lowbies.

     

     

  15. Pylon calling is only MOSTLY pointless.

     

    It's a service to people who may not be familiar with a certain Raid-Leader's preferred order.

     

    I generally ask if there's anyone who HASN'T run the raids with me before.

     

    If there's nobody, I'll sometimes dispense with pylon calling.
