Modern software developers working in businesses are lazy and sloppy.  Code bloat has become rampant, with everyone assuming there's no need to trim lines or remove unnecessary code.  After all, we aren't using floppies, and we aren't restricted to a few megabytes of RAM, and we aren't measuring our CPU cycles in kilohertz, so why bother?  Screw it, it'll run, good enough.  And documentation is either buried in the code as a paltry few commented lines here and there, or skipped altogether, because time spent noting what was done and what it does is time not spent selling the product.

    um....  bullshit.
That's not how I worked.  Of course, I wasn't involved in selling any software as I was doing database development for my employer.

My code was documented scrupulously and I wrote a 50+ page user manual.

I would think Thor in any incarnation is going to be out.  Since that's a pretty huge Marvel character.

Nope.  Because he is also, indisputably, a mythological figure that predates Marvel.

Thor had a major appearance in the Sandman comics.  He was a red-headed, drunken lout.  He looked and acted nothing like the Marvel character.  That's 100% legit and nothing Marvel can do about it.

How will that work with names that are in the public domain but are used by a comic company?

Example: Thor.  Marvel owns their own likeness of Thor, but not the name (The old Comico comic company also had a Thor character with a completely different likeness).  Mythological names have been used by multiple companies.

Well, legally, anyone can use the name of Thor since that is an historical/mythological figure.  They just can't pair with the likeness of the version owned by Marvel.
Will Homecoming handle it exactly that way?  Beats me.

Will the setting revert back to normal if you reboot the instances ?

If by "reboot the instances" you mean "close that instance and start a new one", then yes.

Those are temporary settings that are specific to that instance of the game.

Since they are temporary, I had them as part of a huge bindfile.  I set max fps to 35 on the main instance and maxinactivefps to 5 on the second (and sometimes third) instances.

Wow I did t know you could multi box on a single pc..... this changes everything  lol

I feel like such a Noob

Back when the game was live, I had 3 accounts and could triple box on one pc.  I would estimate my current computer could run 6-8 accounts.

Back then, as a paying customer, I multi-boxed if I felt like it.  On this server, I do not currently multi-box.  (It is allowed, but only during low usage times.)  If this game gets licensed and moves to a subscription system, I'll probably start multi-boxing again.

Please tell me how? Hamidon so long as you get enough tanks can be taken down pretty easily. The zone cap doesn't make it harder or more likely to fail the encounter. It adds a bit of time for sure, but not a lot.

So the only issue is did it add enough time, because making it take longer was *THE* entire point.  Hamidon still may not conform to the target 'time vs reward' metric but now it's closer than it used to be.

Yes i have. And frankly if that inconvenience that I, and others are suffering, solved the actual problem that people claim the raid had, then I would probably just accept it and say it was best for the game though just not for me. But I only see 2 problems that people have reported in this thread that the Hamdion raid suffered from. The first was that having so many people made it too easy. The second was that people farmed the rewards which are already high for the encounter but the speed fo the take down just made worse.

This change solves neither of these issues.

Wait, what?  The zone cap addresses both of those issues.  Maybe not in a way you'd like, but to say it solves neither issue is just false.

It completely negates the first issue and addresses the second one.  Is it the best possible solution for the second issue?  I doubt it, but it gets it back closer to what was originally intended.

Hello Everlasting, I am one of the raid organizers for the server.

I haven't done any Hami raids since Homecoming came around, but I did every role (except raid leader) in the various raid formats on live.

Currently, my only 50 is a scrapper.  Since I want to get back into raids, what would be most useful for me to level up?  Hopefully it's either empathy defender or tank, since I'd like to level those guys anyway.  🙂

MSR is the one that's suffering more.  The difficulty between the capped MSR and the un-capped MSR don't seem markedly different, nor do the rewards (though never kept that close a watch on Vanguad merits per run so I can't say for sure).  The additional traffic in zone makes it awkward and difficult when someone DCs or otherwise gets knocked out of the zone and having only two spots more than a full league in-zone isn't great for coordination.

This is definitely an issue.  If it was a zone with no missions or task force, the cap might be fine.  But the RWZ is what it is so the cap needs to be higher.

I'm just saying that 400 merits in about an hour isn't hugely out of line with the long-established profit level of AE farming.  Someone more knowledgeable than I am can comment on the history of it, but my understanding is that AE profits have always been very high and are generally accepted.  Having an activity that could almost rival that isn't a burning house that has to be addressed right this second, which is how this was addressed.

So by "right this second", you mean the bug that has been in place since *MAY*.

And yes, 400 merits in an hour is completely broken.  The correct comparison is not AE farming.  The correct comparison is the stated time/reward rate where an average player/team will pull in about 1 merit per 3 minutes (or 3-1/2).

I have all my characters from live in Mids, exactly how they were, AND saved costume files for them, I just haven't wanted to recreate any of them

So far, every character I have made has been one of my previous characters.

I've been picking out the most fun and/or useful ones and systematically recreating them.

But hamidon now is one of the best reward/time investment in the game for the merits.

Which is why the change was absolutely required.  It was either reinstate the zone cap or nerf the hell out of the reward.

The target reward metric, if I recall correctly, is 1 merit per 3-1/2 minutes of effort - based on average performance.  So a super-team can blaze through an ITF in 10 minutes while an average team takes....  whatever, an hour?  This is why the Dr Q task force rewards like 120 merits.  On average, it's a tedious slog.

I don't know any details beyond what is in his post and therefore have no opinion one way or the other. But it seems relevant, so I'm sharing.

I have an opinion.  This is a guy who has dedicated YEARS of his life to this game without compensation and has now been asked to "step away".

    This concerns me.

Is it just me then? I haven't even come close to recreating any of my 80 odd toons from live, not in looks or in powersets

    Yes, it's just you.  😛

I had every character build recorded in Excel, including slotting and IO sets.  When the shutdown was announced, Titan Network created a tool to export character data to an XML file.  I used it on every character 'just in case'.  Well, now that the game is back, they created a tool that lets you extract the costume data from the XML files and save it in CoH costume file format.

I'm always surprised to see that people use shard components.  I've always used thread stuff....have found it so much easier!

That said, I'm embarassed to say that I wasn't even aware of the Vanguard Heavy.  Hmmm...might have to do more MSR....if I can ever figure out why I only get 10 vanguard merits per run...

I agree the threads are easier but I used up almost all of my threads getting all three level shifts ASAP.  I wanted to get my Alpha slot to T4 for the recharge boost and I was only 2 shards short.

And Rocketeur explained why you're not getting Vanguard merits.  Until you do the arc and get that badge, I think the odds of a Rikti dropping a merit is similar to the odds of dropping an enhancement, i.e. very low.  After you get the badge, it's much higher odds and it's 2 for a lieutenant and 3 for a boss.  During a mothership raid, every Rikti is guaranteed to drop 1 or more Vanguard merits (based on their rank).

Yeah I've probably created and leveled 7 toons to level 10 so far. LOL

    Loving them all so far!!

There's time.  When the game was live, I took every AT to level 50, every controller primary to 50, every tank primary to 50.

Nowadays, I have one 50 so far.

I went with a ranged but I think I'm going to roll a few toons to see what I want to go with. Any suggestions?

There are 15 archetypes to choose from.  You must play all of them eventually.  🙂

  18. Also, if you're just short a couple of incarnate shards, you can buy G'rai Matter incarnate component for 150 V-merits.  It's needed for some powers or can be converted to 1 incarnate shard.

I've already got the Vanguard Heavy, the increased storage, and a couple thousands V-merits left over.  But I was two shards short for a component to get one of my slots to tier 4.
