    TELEPORTATION POOL

Suffers from being clunky. Let's try to change that.

    ...

Teleport - honestly, one of the few ways that Champions Online actually beat out CoH was in the implementation of their Teleport. The CoH version is clunky, difficult to use in small or confined maps, where you can't click, and it is anything but Nightcrawler-esque, with no finessse. The power should be overhauled:

    Teleport

    Cast 1.0 seconds

    Recharge: 12. 0 seconds

    Duration: 6.0 seconds

    Endurance: 13 seconds

Effects: Grant Flight 6.0 seconds with high flight control., followed by 4 more seconds of no-control flight (when you reappear). Grant Phase Shift 6.0 seconds. Grant Invisibility 6.0 seconds. Affect Only Self 6.0 seconds. Invulnerability 6.0 seconds. What happens? You click and get six seconds to fly/move wherever you want, unseen, unaffected (because this simulates you being 'in between'), then you reappear and have another 4 more seconds of hover-ish flight so you can decide where to go next if in mid-air. Unlike current Teleport, you are not clicking every 3 seconds or so, so it reduces click fatigue on long distance map travel. You also can maneuver in tight spaces to without mouse clicking on targets, and thus can navigate things like Council caves.

I agree that the current Teleport feels clunky, but I would not want to make it into another fly power.

Maybe a reverse of what Mystic Flight does. Where Teleport also gives you a form of Hover, like Mystic Flight gives you Translocation.

I like that CoH Teleport is an "actual" teleport.

If I think about my characters that have Teleport, it's mostly the frantic clicking before gravity takes over, and the high endurance usage that I find limiting on the power. This would solve the first problem. I think Teleport's endurance usage also needs some love, as I can't even cross Mery on a low level character before I run out of endurance, while the other travel powers have no such problem.

The team teleport does seem useless.

A "Pistol" Pool is something I could certainly get behind.  Nothing flashy.  Just straight to the point.  Nice idea @Crashen.

Yes. I like most of his ideas, but especially this one.

I like the power pools for giving the option to make character concepts that would otherwise be hard or impossible because of how AT's are structured.

    Melee guy with a gun?

Archer gal that likes kicking people?

I want to use Force of Will attacks on a Katana wielder, to create the feel of a Force user.

I would say not to limit the visual options compared to the standard AT pistol options, especially because of the role-playing aspect.

For that reason, having melee weapons in Fighting or something similar, would also be cool. Might be a pain in the costume designer though.

    - Jock Tamson, Who has a grudge against Macs for not doing different things when he clicks with his right finger.

    Mac's have supported right-click since MacOS 8, in 1997.

There are other reasons to hold a grudge against Macs and/or Apple, but this is not one of them.

(I personally do not like the keyboard of this computer, and think the Touch Bar is a really bad idea).

  4. It seems to be calling a drawJoinedFrame2Panel() in /Game/src/UI/uiBaseProps.c line 1454

It seems to scale the top part of this two frame panel depending on the font size/scale factor.

And then it doesn't account for this in the bottom half, which gets computed as height - size of text frame.

There are a couple of points where it does ht - (ty-y)

My guess is that somewhere there, it needs to do a ht*sc -(ty-y) or something similar, as ty scales with sc

It does something weird with the width of the window decoration as well, so maybe there needs to be a wd*sc in there somewhere as well.

I'm on a Mac at the moment, and not familiar (yet) with the code, so I can't easily build and debug things myself.

  5. I had an issue with IslandRum changing the first line of /Applications/coh/islandrum.sh adding a line of garbled characters before the line the file should start with.

    1) Remove everything before #!/bin/sh

    2) Make the file read-only so IslandRum cannot touch it any more.

    This solved things for me.

  6. I found that if you disable "automatic UI scaling" and set the scale to 100%, the UI for permissions scales correctly and does work.

"automatic UI scaling" seems to set it to 150% at 4K, but the permissions screen seems to not handle something correctly, it's possible that it scales in the wrong direction and there is some kind of extra minus sign somewhere, as the panel drawn is clearly a lot smaller than the window border.

But at least, that should give you a work around.

I would honestly argue that a Sith would be better represented by a Stalker ... who uses Force Power to "mind trick" everyone into ignoring you (Hide).  Although, that points you in a direction of Ninja Blade/Ninjitsu (with Mu Mastery, presumably) as your path to the Dark Side ...

I wasn't aware that "Ninja Blade" basically also is a Katana. I will have a look at that.

I just made my first character with Force of Will, and that seems to fit the theme rather well too.

I went the Scrapper/Stalker route because of Zapp, I know that feels very Force Lightning on my Elec Corruptor. But maybe a Katana/? Brute could work as well?

Thanks for the replies and advice.

  8. I'll try to make some contributions as well.

I find a good wiki to be very useful for a game like this.

But I'll spend most of my time finally wandering the streets of Paragon City, Rogue Isles and Praetoria again.

Thanks for getting a new wiki up, Homecoming has all kinds of subtle differences with live.

  9. I'm not very experienced in scrappers, and higher level builds.

Only returned to the game a few weeks ago. Used to have mostly <35 characters on live.

I have a friend who wants to join, if he can make a Sith/Dark Jedi.

I was thinking a Scrapper with Katana/Willpower and then Mu Mastery for the lightning.

Can Mu Mastery be recoloured, or is it always red?

Do you think this would work?

    Any suggestions?

Would Super Reflexes be a better fit?

  10. I have used (from the top of my head).

Would probably need to add banking and backwards poses as well to round them out,.

I think this is an issue. As I understand it, they currently do not really have a way to add new animations/models and such. At least it's very hard because they don't have the tools used to create those.

the USA is real in COH. Real flags for major countries are a no brainer. Arguing that people from less prominent nations would be upset is ridiculous.

I've never seen an Israeli complain of a lack of the blue and white israeli flag in games. Never seen someone from singapore complain theres no flag from there.

Add the most prominent nations flags first, and add more later bit by bit, over time we'll cover most of the worlds countries.

Sorry, but I find this comment rather rude and inconsiderate.

If this was the argument the HC developers would use, it would upset me.

Your comment sounds very self-centred, in a might makes right, the small guys don't matter kind of way.

It also sounds English-centred. Have you read any Hebrew or Malay forums to check your statement? Have you considered your own bias, if you only read English websites?

Have you read the discussions on the "Pan European" ships not having their nation's flags in World of Warships? Have you read any Polish, Dutch, Swedish or Austrian forums? Have you read how XCOM2 is liked for having a larger selection of nations, but also the mods that add another 166 nations to the game?

This is not so different from saying that a game would support "white people" and people can ask for other "non standard skin colours" to be added, and over time we'll cover most of the world's people. Having to ask to be represented, while others are the default, is what a lot of minorities feel as discrimination.

This topic is nowhere near as serious as the protests going on in the USA right now, but you might want to examine your attitude and bias.

    Wakanda isn’t real?????

That's what we want them to believe.

The bigger question is if the Arkonids from M13 are real and have been manipulating history for the past millennia.

What a necro, and what a hell of a response that this has gotten so far. And so far off-topic...

I used the forum search function, I don't like to start a new thread if there is an existing one covering the topic.

Sorry if that annoyed people. I just started playing in May 2020 and I'm digging though a year of Homecoming history.

I meant the CoH Client, I'm not 100% confident the CoH server will run on 32GB of RAM and I'm trying to migrate away from Windows eventually, and I like Linux so it seemed like a Good OS to test with.

My friend runs on Debian stable (I think 10.4 or so?) with 8GB or RAM and has no issues.

I think the game will probably run on even less, I used to run it on a machine with 4GB back in the day.

  15. It would be cool if the active accounts/CCU/hours played numbers could get an update every now and then.

I only started playing in May 2020, and now have 5 friends who joined as well.

    Only just reached level 20.

It would be interesting to see how things develop month-by-month.

Still think these are impressive numbers.

Well . . . again, using the meter stick of Phantom Army, other than people like myself saying "that's awesome, and brings us one step closer to Henchpet Customization" . . . is anyone vocally upset that Illusion Control got the cool new feature, while all other Control Sets were left without?

I know my own experience in that department is simply anecdotal, since I can't see everything, but I'd like to know from others:  Have you anything to report on that front?  Or has every mention of Phantom Army in the community thus far been a matter of "Yes, please-and-thank-you!" and "that's a step in the right direction, I'm looking forward to more in the future!"

Naturally, sure.  If we keep taking small steps of progress, doing one Set / Pet at a time, people will be anxious about when/if their favourite will get the treatment.  But that is also literally exactly what's going on with -everything- anyway.  Tankers got attention as a whole Archetype recently, and some people are anxious about their favourite Archetypes (not) being next.  It's kind of the nature of the beasty.  Even when things were for-profit, the Legacy Devs still had to do things in steps, generally.

With all that in mind . . . my earlier support of Sakura's concern is partially rescinded.  It'll definitely still suck if Beasts, Demons, and Robots don't get anything . . . but that's also kiiind of not a big deal or reasonable limiting factor for the other Sets, since EVERY upgrade and update is a progressive matter of steps over time.

    Yes, cool things are good.

I wasn't aware Phantom Army now had this ability, I might have a look. Sounds fun.

Yesterday and a friend were trying to make a Popular Singer and his/her Mob of Fans as some kind of Mastermind, but we could not really make that work.

  17. There are my two cents:

    1. I always liked games like this, and the pen-n-paper games like GURPS and Star Wars: SAGA Edition, because they decoupled your powers and abilities from your backstory and how you got them. Things like the Patron powers are only linked to the in game missions if you want to. If your headcannon makes how your character got them different, then that's fine too. It's a strong superhero trope to be the odd one out. Think Blade and all the "other vampires".  You can be the Daywalker.
SW: SAGA edition stressed in it's chapter on classes that you could be a Jedi without any levels in the Jedi Class, or have many levels in the Jedi Class and not be a Jedi or Sith, but Chirrut Imwe.
I see City of Heroes in the same way.
    2. I always understood City of Heroes to not be a game that tries to achieve "balance". I think in games like World of Warcraft, it was the death of the game when PvP was introduced and everything had to be viable and balanced. City of Heroes wants to give you freedom of choice and fun options. And that means some options are weaker or have gaps in what they can do. It's not designed to make every option equally viable. I have a friend who plays really whacky characters as a result, and we have a lot of fun, but solo he would struggle at -1. (I think one has Plant Control/Nature Affinity).

This is a good point, we all know some loser would want to use the confederate flag and then would cry when told no.

All of the "places" I mentioned would likely get some people riled up.

The big question is, which countries exist in the CoH universe?

    And in Preatorian Earth?

I am always puzzled by what both the DCU and CoH seem to to: Fictional cities (Gotham, Metropolis, Paragon City, Galaxy City) but then real countries (often only the USA, maybe Canada and the UK). I prefer the Marvel approach, which uses mostly real places and cities, with the possible exception of Wakanda and such.

I think the best solution in a universe such as CoH would be to also have fictional countries. e.g. the Union of States of Columbia.

    (I don't mean https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_of_Colombia).

Then you avoid most of the flag discussions as well.

Most flags consist of straight lines of various colors, some have symbols in them that we pretty much already have in game. It would be great if we could use some simple tools to create our own flag emblems. If that kind of a tool could be created (if even possible or worth the time to create) that would end a lot of problems. I'm sure not every flag would be created perfectly, but even if I could create a red and white stripe flag with a blue box with a single star in the center of it, I would be happy...so as long as everyone can create a flag that is at least close to what their country has, I think everyone could be happy with that. Far fetched I'm sure, but worth tossing the idea around.

    Who needs stars? 😉

I"m fine with just three horizontal bands in colours I can pick.

I suppose you could add three vertical bands, those seem to be quite common as well.

You could add something with a cross, that seems to be somewhat popular as well.
