Honestly, it's not looking good at all for gaming on Macs as Elder Scrolls Online will not support new Macs and Guild Wars 2 just announced the end of all Mac support completely.

In addition, from what I've been hearing elsewhere, Rosetta 2 is a stopgap measure that is only expected to be supported for a couple of years. :classic_mellow:

Ever since Apple started with Metal, more and more PC game developers have been abandoning the platform. Gaming on Mac was quite good 2007-2017, but has been steadily getting worse since then. It is why I bought my first Windows machine in over a decade.

I have also been thoroughly unimpressed with a lot of their more recent hardware choices. I am typing this on a 2018 Macboook Pro 15", and the keyboard, Touch Bar and TouchID are horrible, the USB-C only/Thunderbolt3 is either annoying, or sometimes unworkable, I carry a minimum of 6 dongles around.

But it is good to see that people got the game running on the M1. Impressive. That gives me hope for when I need another Mac(book).

  2. Is any/ all of this in the wiki?

It provides a lot of overview and information.

Me and my friends have been very confused about the timelines and missions, as they are not chronological with a normal gold side level progression up to Night Ward. You go through the Sheridan portal, and suddenly everyone is talking about a failed invasion by Cole, and refugees. Huh what? And then near Portal Corps, everything shifts in time again.

    This helped clarify a lot.

Also really cool to see those early sketches and previs models. I think if we ever have a lot of time, those could be worked into a separate gold side zone.

I would not make it part of the city, but a separate one, maybe on a different continent even, the place where those ships and planes go to.

Maybe run by a totally different dictatorship, with the syndicate working as the middleman.

Once you've bought the various team teleport, teleport to mission, base portal type powers from the P2Win vendor and unlocked Oroborous, I find I don't really miss the instant nase teleport any more.  There's a wealth of travel options now and the brand-new travel power changes make us even more mobile.

I usually still take the train and the boats, unless I need to be somewhere fast, then I use Ouroberos and the Long Range Teleporter.

I like travelling in the "real world" it makes you meet other people and feels more real. It might be a bit of roleplaying.

I also love reading people's back stories while I wait for the train.

I find that especially with the updates to the travel powers, getting around even without the teleports and portals is usually fast enough. Much more zones have base portals now as well, and putting teleports in your base is free nowadays.

But usually I just bounce, fly and run around. It makes me feel like a Superhero/villain. It's like Spiderman slinging though New York, it is an important part of many of my characters.

This would be brilliant and a definite improvement. But probably too late in the game's life to make a difference - at this point we are all so used to forming teams manually via the LFG channel rather than with the LFG menu tool, that we will continue to use the channel even if the tool gets improved.

    I wasn't even aware of a tool. 🤔

When Blizzard got it right in WoW, it was very quickly adopted, after a few false starts with poor implementations.

The LRSF and MLTF are very bad examples for your point.  Your friend is ignorant.  Nothing wrong with that, it just means they do not know something.  They can learn.  Unless they are stupid.  That is a problem then.  Pointing all of that our may seem a bit....Snarky.

Seriously though.  The LRSF and MLTF are not kill alls.  They are VERY objective driven TFs.  If you know the content you know exactly where to go, when, who to kill, get it done.  It is not "speed," it is efficiency.  Unfortunately this makes it difficult for people new to the TF to ever learn it.  They have no idea where people are going, what they are doing, or why the "Mission Complete" sign popped up.  I came in late to the game (Good vs Evil edition) and loved to solo.  Those two TFs in particular left me confused due to my...ignorance....for quite some time.

You could take a group of friends through the LRSF and slowly kill every mob on the way to each objective.  These are pretty big maps.  Plan a dinner break.

I don't even know what LRSF and MLTF are.

I've played on live since 2011, i21 I think, but mostly Villains and Praetorians, because that is what one of my friends really liked. My highest level hero on live was level 20, and highest level villain was 49.

I just got my first level 50 hero yesterday, and she was a Praetorian until level 43.

I mostly play with friends that have been part of The Conclave gaming community for decades. We have played all kinds of games together and have used Teamspeak, Ventrillo and Discord since 2002. Everything from Battlefield to RPGs to tabletop to MMOs. I have ran 40 man raids in World of Warcraft. I would not want to run any group without voice chat unless absolutely necessary.

I find LFG a bit scary but that might be because of my varied experiences in other MMOs and games.

The little experience I do have with LFG, the groups have a high pace, and I hardly know what is going on. I very much like to enjoy the content, there are many parts of CoH I have not yet seen. I would want to read everything and kill everything and look in all the nooks and crannies. I am not here for the result, but for the journey. I often turn XP off, so I can finish story lines and areas before I out level them.

I think the LFG is one of the most dated parts of this game.

I will probably join more groups and task forces, now that I have a level 50, and that might change my perspective, but I wanted to share the perspective I currently have.

Develop a more robust language to describe the sorts of teams we're looking for so that people can have more confidence about forming a team which they are comfortable leading and won't feel as much pressure at the possibility of a player saying "I didn't sign up for this."

     . . . that's quite the run-on sentence, but I hope I was still clear.

The LFG system in World of Warcraft only became good after they did some real investment into it, and had a GUI where you had all kinds of options.

This would be hard and controversial to implement on Homecoming, but is indeed the way to go.

It should not be the same as WoW's though, but indeed include things like "I want to read all the text".

It should also allow you t sign up with alts, and then switch to the right one when a group starts, removing you from any others. Or something like that, it would require a lot of thought to get right.

That's how I got through Ghoul infested tunnels in Praetoria!  Invis (Infiltration now)+ Confuse, tag and wait.  Did I get less XP?  Probably.  Did I get eaten by ghouls?  NOPE.

I love how many different ways you can already play this game, with a bit of imagination. So many things are feasible, as long as you don't care it is less "efficient" and are willing to meddle with the notoriety levels when needed.

This game cares a lot less about balance and min/max than most games, and just makes it work. It cares about fun.

I have no really good ideas right now, and I think the game already supports a lot. My criterion for new options would be if they were fun to play, and that can be hard, even for a concept that is awesome on paper.

What I would really like is some more customisation of existing powers. More of the existing animations made available on other power sets, and also some of the current NPC animations, where possible. The animations are one of the best parts of this game.

  8. @Kalkin Thank you for your kind words. I don't want to make this thread about my friend, he can post his own story if he wants to.

This thread is about you and your loss and RoseVortex and what seems to have been a life well lived but taken at too young an age.

It looks like you had a lot of good times and CoH was a happy part of that. I hope those happy memories help in softening your pain.

I am happy to have read the stories of the people who knew her.

  9. Finally.

I also had these same enhancement sets back on live, but was never able to slot the level 50 ones. I now got past where NCsoft cut me off.

Thanks Homecoming, you healed a wound that hurt for 8 years.

Now to figure out this Incarnate stuff...

We were all pretty much the same level when we entered the mish, though the team leader was one level above me (he was 31, I was 30). When I dinged 31, all my pets died at the same time--poof.  That's not normal.

If I understand the comments above, the issue should happen if your team leader dinged up to 32, and then you got 31 after that.

People seem to assume that is what happened, but nobody explicitly stated that, so it could still be a bug as well.

It seems that in that case it is working as intended, although you can argue that it is overly broad in its attempt to prevent the exploit, and should have an extra check added, or some other change made. Personally, I think it should never reap your pets as long as they are lower level than you.

We usually make the MM our team leader, as otherwise the whole pets dying and re-summoning gets really tedious really fast.

The thing that REALLY bites is I can't put my hands on a 3000 series RTX worth a damn, and I happened to buy the ONE RTX 2060 that nobody builds watercooling plates for, because there are multiple PCB geometries for the card used on the same SKU.

I am trying to build a X5900 system for similar reasons, but I've had no luck getting a 3080 in December last year, when I first ordered the system, and now the prices have gone completely crazy. I still have an ASUS RTX3080 TUF on order since December 5, and the MSI RTX3080 Gaming X Trio I also ordered was cancelled and refunded, apparently because MSI stopped making them.

I am in no mood to pay €2000 or more for a card that should be €750.

In the mean time I am stuck on my Mac Pro 2010, which can run CoH at 4K thanks to a MacVidCards GTX980.

  12. I liked the progress in speed as you levelled. I think the new speeds might be too high for new players, but it might not be a big issue. I was never bothered by being slower when exemplaring.

In general I like the changes, but it does feel like a slow power creep that keeps making travel easier and faster.

I like encountering other players in the game, so I'm not a big fan of all the long range teleports and zooming around.

I'm also a bit underwhelmed by the new Evasive Manoeuvres, but that might be because I don't fully understand what it does and when to use it. I'm not sure it is useful enough to put/keep into a build, where before I would easily pick Afterburner. I have no problem with the new Afterburner though.

  13. I never knew RoseVortex or Kalkin, but you both sound as good people. I loved reading the stories in this thread.

I am sorry for your loss.

One of the long time friends I play this game multiple times a week with is also a Cystic Fibrosis patient so this does hit a little closer to home.

  14. Both in zones and instances, I can no longer see my party members and friendly NPCs as green arrows on the map.

This seems to have started a couple of weeks ago, before the last patch went live but after March.

Is there a setting I'm missing?

I am using Vidiotmaps, but friends of mine do as well without similar problems.

This could also be a bug, but I might just be missing something, so I wanted to ask here first.

  15. Yes, if you have your old computer, then you will have a list of your characters and any costumes you saved.

Back in 2012 it was also possible to save characters with Sentinel Plus, but if you never did that, then you're out of luck.

If you had high level characters back then, you might also have old Mid's Hero Designer files saved, I had a few of those as well. These can be used in Mid's Reborn.

You will need to start any character back at level 1 no matter what.

But all the VIP powers and bases are now free, so you can get up to speed faster.
