  1. interesting

i do agree with your point of view that it's now a very odd ability - if foes are resistant to trawl they get phased? that's quite a chalk and cheese variety of outcomes possible from clicking a power

    I appreciate you!

Here's what I went with as a cheap-o 50 starter build, and it seems to be working out. I'm gonna take a hard look at your suggestions and tweak things around once my alt-itis doesn't demand so much of my time (ha!).

I'm actually deleting my 2nd emp/dark Defender and exploring some different options since a pure "healer" build seems to be lacking ... something. She was my OG that I had transferred to Excelsior, only to realize I already had an Emp/Dark here lol. So she's been parked.

i quite like it! there's something refreshing about seeing a good value build

you'll find that you will have more spare slots once you start getting more IOs and similar. for example in fortitude you could use just two or three Membrane hami O's to get the same result. if you'd like a couple of them DM me your global and i'll send a few over

  3. add a poll, would be interesting to see - hours per week

and to add to the thread, i play perhaps twice a week thesedays for about an hour on each session

i tend to only play if friends are online and we’re on voicechat. more of a digital livingroom thesedays whilst playing through a few TFs

Played Psi and Illusion on seperate Dom's, I am not sure if really works the best together. It can probably work if you are able to proc out Psi a lot to overcome the psi damage resistance, but that does go against the perma-PA.

Sonic might be a better roll for it do to the -res which will help the PA damage, and with not having the taunt effect you might be more in range with it, to utilize it more.

I did a ILL/Dark build and with the seperate damage type made a big difference.

i agree. the -res component of sonic will work nicely with illusion

in my opinion psi assault is one of the worst performing secondaries available for doms but is buoyed by people’s memories of it being good 15 years ago on live

  5. some thoughts as someone who mains a mind/fire dom

    - overall it seems fine, nothing drastically wrong
    - Combustion isn't overly great, the animation time is really long
    - Fire blast is a good power worth having
    - I wouldn't bother with tough and weave, all your powers are mostly ranged. Just lock stuff down rather than trying to tank mobs
    - I like the slotting of fireball
    - I expect you'll need more endurance, slot out health with some more endurance or recovery procs, put some more endurance into stamina
    - I don't think incinerte will proc that often give its fast recharge, i'd just put hecatomb in it
    - Rain of fire is awful
    - I'd 2 slot embrace of fire
    - Super speed at lvl 49 is a bit odd, you will never exemp a single time?

Mud pots does about 13 DPS on my grav / earth dom with just two slots in it. That works out to about 130 DPS every 10 seconds at the cost of a manageable amount of endurance, no animation time, and one slot.

Mud pots also slows and can immobilize mobs. Plus, it activates every 2 seconds and it will take out mobs with a sliver of life left without needing to spend time targeting them. It's quite a good power if you take earth assault and you can find a way to manage the endurance cost.

Mud pots will annoy mobs and make some of them eager to kill your dom. But, as a dom you have tools to deal with that and making mobs hate you more seems to fit with your goals for your troller / dom.

with mud pots and similar powers generally have a 2 second tick rate as noted the damage would be half that amount surely

    damage (base, before slotting) would be 7.59 x 5 = 37.95 over a 10 second period

else you’d need it to cast 26 damage per tick, which if procced heavily could be achievable

Early on in Homecoming I was having similar problems with affording basic gear, and met a very nice player who explained to me how to never want for money for SOs and IOs again.

    1. Earn merits.

    2. Buy Enhancement Converters

    3. List them for 1 inf each and they'll sell for 50,000+

This makes 5 merits worth about 750,000 inf, at least.

    To earn merits:

    1. Do story arcs. Croatoa, Faultline, Striga or the Hollows net you between 50-100 each. Older story arcs through contacts can be a bit tricky to get, but often pay out well. Or Ouroborus them. Freakalympics (level 25) is a good one for 57 merits.

    2. Do Hero Tips. 10 missions + 1 alignment mission get you 40 merits

    3. Join Giant Monster teams. Adamastor gives 10, Lusca 22 these days, and normal ones give 6. A group patrolling the city will easily get 50 merits

    4. Do Task Forces, especialyy the weekly, which gives double merits

    5. Get all the exploration badges in a zone for 5. Page like this on the wiki have little Copy tags next to each badge. Paste them into chat to get a thumbtack for the badge.
    https://homecoming.wiki/wiki/Atlas_Park#Exploration_Badges

This will keep you comfortably off while devoting your time to fighting crime.

yeah, even just completing 2-3 taskforces a week and using the merits to buy an LoTG +rech or similar will give you 5m inf a week and that’s a less efficient method than the converter strategy you’ve described

  9. what is your playstyle? teams or solo? what sort of things do you enjoy?

put 2 acc in each of your kin powers, heal in transfusion, recharge in all others. some end mod in speed boost and transfusion

slot rad with whatever you like, load up irradiate with procs including -res as it fires reliably

there’s no real build strategy required with kin and rad will be doing fine with the damage buffs. salt to taste and enjoy

  10. rather than farming would you like a bunch of inf for your main? feels a shame to come back and be sat in AE rather than re-living the good times. DM me your global if this would help you get playing

i would also say that IOs are nice to have but they arent critical when teaming. once you hit 50 you’ll quickly earn enough inf through playing to get kitted out, IOs are around 5 times cheaper than what they were on live

Lingering was never not back and still wont be more noticeable with this patch. Bosses will get blitzed regardless of lingering being present, and AVs were unaffected.

lingering radiation is back on the shelf, baby!

I have seen several posts on these boards already showing slower times on missions, but it is hard to tell how much of that is due to the regen rate change or anything else. It’s worth pointing out that the change is literally doubling regen rates for most critters, which isn’t entirely insignificant.

as someone who is thinking of making a radiation alt, this is good news! lingering radiation is back, baby

  13. i would say the need for speed genre the game has become is a result of two things:

    1. people are simply better at understanding the game and its mechanics. once you’ve experienced the 1-50 journey multiple times you know what activities are most fruitful

    2. the IO system broke the game and wasn’t right for CoH. all the minor tweaks for ‘balance’ are irrelevant in the face of IOs offering players a barrel of cheap high fructose corn syrup

without IOs, archetypes become relevant again: defenders are needed for their buffs and debuffs, controllers are needed for their mez to reduce the chaos, tanks are needed for their sturdy nature

IOs have created a game where every AT is the same

added to this is the ability to juice up anytime on powerful inspirations by typing /ah (which i do with much frequency)

as a result, the only priority is to deal damage. enemies pose no threat and the only variable is my ability to mash the keyboard until the enemy is defeated

  14. such a ridiculous change to the game. i use 348 custom coded macros and have 7 keyboards, 2 foot switches, a drum on my back which i use as left click and a harmonica in my mouth which i blow into for right clicks and this just does NOT work for my use case

do the devs even think about players like me with very normal setups?

i’ll be deleting all the add-ons i’ve developed on my bespoke janky code repository. they have been downloaded tens of times. i’m done with this community.
