  1. Not deliberately set on smaller team, but have run with plenty 3-5 teams. Like them a lot. Some time back, I posited the idea of advertising for "Star" teams, as in the 5 points of the star. But with star TF runs that idea is definitely out the window.

Optimal team size? I'd say 4-5.

  2. Old Standbys:

    KR Devil, AR/TA/Fire! Blaster

    Souler, Dark/Fire Tank

One of many solo toons on Torch, taking the old school route to 50.

    New stuff:

*Been running a lot on Everlast. Interesting feel there. Teaming feels different. Pace seems a bit less frenetic.

*Been playing "The Dysh," my obligatory Arsenal Dom. Her gun pet is "The Spoon." (I guess Lore pets will be Fork and Knife. IF I get that far):-) Arsenal control is a ridiculous set, by the way.

*I've run various versions of Whipsmart on all shards, most often as a blaster of some kind. However, never did anything involving an actual Whip. So I'm trying to actually "whip up" a petless Demon/Traps MM with the 3 whip attacks, augmented by whatever makes sense for an athletic, tech kinda guy (which means folding in Toxic Dart, among other things). That's gonna be HARD to make work, without higher damage tier stuff. I'll have to throw down the debuffs and find some procs and sets that help. Not subjecting anyone else on Everlast to my insanity, though. He's straight solo.

    * Rebuilding Everlasting's version of Major Viktory, after stripping everything. It's more chore than "fun," but there's other "Majors" out there, including a "Maj. VIctory," so I feel like I'm part of some unofficial SG inspired by CATCH-22.:-)

  3. I oftentimes believe that negative responses exist because people feel they must cosmically balance anyone else's moment of joy with their own hastily provided big ol' basket of shit (because it's evidently grossly unfair for anyone to have the former without also smelling the latter [which your typical internet jackass will provide, free of charge]).

  4. I believe I've seen at least 2 instances where a person was running 4-5 additional toons. They would stand in AE, auras toggled, occasionally slamming the ground with their only qued attack. All. Of. Them. The room just constantly shook.

Thankfully, they have that li'l ol' quiet room in the back there.:-)

I do have a tiny bit of work left to do to keep stories created by one user from being edited by another... But I do think I want them all to be viewable by anyone who is a content creator. Would that be any kind of problem? I'm thinking of the scenario where someone says "how did they do that?" and then they can just go view it all (without being able to modify). Any opinions about that?

I don't suppose this would be an issue, provided there's no chance of corrupting/changing the original file. But I don't mind telling anyone how I do anything if they ask. Then again, I don't do anything fancy, so...no one ever asks me.:-)

  6. Test for the Destined Ones (ID: 19492) by  @Warning Shot

Arachnos is testing out all the “Destined Ones" to find "the deserving "among their number. So that means...a test. A few of them, it seems. Your constantly-less-than-impressed “Arachnos Virtual Recruiter” hits you up in AE itself, putting your through your paces (to include the requisite insults about your lack of prowess [regardless of whether you've actually demonstrated it]).  Missions start out in a “buggy” AE holosim (the contact, too, is "suspiciously buggy"). It's all part of the narrative, though, as this clever premise makes useof the very AE environment that you’re standing in when you accept the missions (basically turning your actual location into the story setting). To put it less than poetically, this idea is some really clever shit.:-) Kudos! What an idea!

No spoilers here. You unravel the whole affair, then take care of the insidisous perps, who really have concocted a nifty little scheme (that was obviously executed by the lowest tech bidder).:-). Your left standing tall in the end (but pondering whether any of it was real). Well done! A glowing (if somewhat "suspiciously glitchy") Seal of Approval. PLAY IF: You want to run your lowbie through their paces against some familiar foes in unfamiliar situations (and strange alliances). Or just play it. It’s a nice piece of crafting. Creative, sharp, and meticulously scripted. A fair test of the L1-20 range for which it's scripted. Mainly, it's a fun, fast-moving run. Nice job!

  7. Wish I could contribute constructively to this, but my next powerset "want it!" are the power pools. But certainly adding the Khled stuff could spur a ton of creativity in the form of Kheld-specific stories.

Speaking of...I want the old Nictus Crystals, too.:-)

Count yourself lucky they didn't go through your entire roster to see if anything else needed fixing.  One badly over the line arsenal themed character (GM must have been a spurs fan ...) and I lost a bunch of names.

Luckily I complained and they gave me a full refund.  /s

At first I thought this was the San Antonio Spurs, and I could not, for the life of me figure it out. Then I looked at "arsenal."

    Ahhhhhhhh...NOW it makes sense...:-)

  9. I will avoid you. You and the massive plume of green smokestank rising from your shitty, debt-filled carcass.

(yeah, no...because, depending on what level we're at, I've probably got a bar or two of But Blasters CAN tank! stank goin' myself):-)

A Proc nerf making the game less enjoyable and eliminating build variety is a mathematical fact. Simple as.

The first part is not completely mathematical, because enjoyment can’t be quantified. The second part is questionable, too, since a nerf doesn’t eliminate anything. Variety would still be present unless the procs are removed, rather than weakened. However, I think you can say that, if procs were nerfed, fewer people would rush to get them, thereby reducing their presence, thereby reducing variety, etc. a proc nerf resulting in a drop in player population more or less supports the “mathematical” aspect.

That aside, I think there’s this assumption that procs are standard for most players. They may be for people who frequent these boards. I’m thinking maybe not for the majority of players. So I wonder just how much they’d be missed, on the whole. Seeing as how no one HAS to have them to play the game, though, I wouldn’t think there’d be any move to eliminate them, since such a move might turn people off the game (due to the previously mentioned “lack of enjoyment”). But a nerf is not the same thing as a deletion, so I’m not sure how we can accurately judge the effect of any possible changes, overall.

  11. I don’t care for any of the incarnate system or story associated with it, but I’m not sure it’s necessarily “bad for the game” since no one HAS to go that route.

The ubiquity of free and cheap zone TP options has the downside that a lot of the city never gets seen by new players, since they’re mainly doing door travel (if they’re teaming). Mentioned this before, but I enjoy seeing teams go by, each using their various modes of personal travel (esp with the floating disks, hoverboards, and different run stances we have now).

On the other hand, the addition of explore badge tips popping up in each zone (once you get one on your own from said zone) encourages exploration, since you can grab a few merits just for running/jumping/flying around.  For my lowbie chars with fly, I'll often zoom around zones collecting the explore badges between mishes, or when waiting for "TF Forming" messages. It's easy merits, and there actually are a few things I had not seen. As an AE author, I also find the explore badge blurbs to be great for inspiring new story ideas.  I like this add a lot.

  12. I think it was tweaked some time ago, before shutdown. I wasn't around until Good vs. Evil, so I can't testify to the bone-crushing days people speak of (at least...I don't think I can).

    I agree.

In WoW and Guild Wars 2 you do missions for people in the world.  You learn about each area as you talk to them and do missions.  There is a story but it also makes the world important.

First Ward and Night Ward are one of the few zones where they places have a story and feel like a place (Croatoa and Striga are others).

Steel Canyon is just a big place where you can run to doors for missions.  I wish it had story arcs about the different neighborhoods and buildings there.

Hm. Challenge accepted. I just got finished whipping up an AE story in Sky using NPCs from there, working in the information from the various badge locations. I haven’t really looked at Steel as a story location (outside 1 AE arc featuring Steel’s “Lethal Weapon” inspired detectives). After I recharge my batteries on little bit, I will take a look at it and see what additional stories might take place there in the cracks of what we already know. I would suggest we get a group of a authors on it just to see what everyone comes up with, but I can’t offer any rewards (other than the usual blood, tears, toil and sweat).
