  1. Maybe it is time we all agree KB can be a contentious topic - like some real world ones, and either all agree to best manors or drop the subject.

We have ppl on the keep it as it is and change it now band wagons that are not going to change their minds. Lets find a way to enjoy the game the way it is flaws (as we perceive them) and all.

We just got back to our personal Oz and are all headed to the emerald city ( go with the analogy ) lets not set the Scarecrow on fire while selling the Tin Man for scrap.

  2. I hear that PhysX has been fixed elsewhere, any word when the fix will make it hear?

I'm going to address this because it keeps being brought up, and it is intentionally not being "fixed" right now.

Reason #1: if you bump your Particle Physics to "Very High", you get the same amount of particle physics as if you had a PhysX card. This happens on the CPU, not the GPU, but for modern computers this barely registers.

Reason #2: the "fix" involves upgrading the PhysX libraries (the DLLs in your game folder) to a newer version. So if we do that we are no longer compatible with the libraries shipped with Issue 24 Beta. This is a problem because it breaks the original client, as well as the client of any server that doesn't implement this "fix". It's a really bad idea to mess with the DLLs as long as multiple servers are sharing a COH install.

A similar problem would happen if we were to enable the error reporting DLL (crashrpt.dll) in order to collect crash logs; as soon as we put that DLL in there, we start getting crash reports from every server, not just Homecoming. Bad idea.

The solution is the Sunrise patcher, which will keep server-specific files on their own folders. At that point we can certainly start upgrading DLLs and adding our own features. But as long as all the servers are sharing a COH install folder, messing with the DLLs is irresponsible at best, malicious at worst.

Thank you for the information. It is very much appreciated.

I look forward to the update which, I fully understand, will happen when it is ready.

Thank you to everyone making Homecoming happen.

  3. This is not typical.

What drive/folder do you have the game installed to?

Try running the game as admin (assuming windows).

Please also post some system specs and make sure graphics, sound and other drivers are all up to date and your win/apple os is fully up to date.

  4. I saw a COH screen shot posted on a random forum so did one of my periodic searches finding Homecoming online and working.  I just about dropped a brick in my shorts right then and there.

I doubt I can say anything unique in my thanks for being back - so please pretend I said them all. :)

It is also nice to see the door open for future development.

I should also thank Score without whose work this would not be happening.

We all have our favorites, of course, I hear that PhysX has been fixed elsewhere, any word when the fix will make it hear? All the /Storm or Storm/ peoples I play it is really fun to have working seeing all the debris swirling in a hurricane, pushed out of the way by other powers and attacks etc really added a lot to an already uniquely living game world.

Anyhow, THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS THANKS For bringing COX back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How many accounts? Have we broken the 10k concurrent yet? Just curious.

  5. They did make imps and other pets stronger to compensate for the lower numbers. More HP more Damage.

I had a lvl 50 fire/storm and lvl 48 fire/kin on the old servers. The Fire/Kin could get 20+ imps out at times. Solo this was nice, they would just swarm things, take all the agro and chew everything to death (specially with fulcrum shift).

The down sides, 10-20 imps get in the way of your team mates. Tanks, scrappers, all the melee ppl have trouble moving around. Missions with levels are a pain because every door you lose all your pets (well except for the various times they were trying to get pets perm and they would go hostile after going through a door). With the old pets you had to cast your pet literally every 45 seconds or less to keep numbers up.

I remember the old days fondly with my armies of imps swarming evil doers - one of those lab maps my fire/kin manages to get the haste buff 4x from exploding lab equipment. I dont know how many imps he had - far too many to count - it was awesome.

Swarms of imps are great control too, with so many of them on the field it was hard for the mobs to get agro on a player or even move much.

All that said plus fond memories I dont want to go back. I have time to do more then stare at my imp/pet button to make sure I am casting it as soon as it comes up. I have time to look around and effectively use all my other powers too.

One exploding nemesis boss or pretty much any other half baked aoe would toast all the old imps leaving you scrambling to recover -- the new ones are much hardier.

I know I speak mostly Imps, the controller I had pets with during the pre controller nerfs.

The controller nerf/buff did much more then just change pets though....

  6. I played a PB to 50 and beyond in the old world. I never once had a problem with KB brought up on a team.

I know KB gets a lot of hate, and as a melee I dont want to chase things around either, I dont think all the KB hate is deserved. When soloing my PB (specially now that I am leveling him again) I find the KB very helpful soloing. It keeps whole groups from retaliating all at once and manage my incoming damage while burning them all down.

When teaming and in Nova form I tend to be as high up as possible. This is a great defensive position making it really hard for melee ranged attacks to hit me. Also changes the direction of the KB.

On the old server I had two builds I used post 50. Tri form (my preferred) and Human only (also TF viable) and teamed up a fair amount with this character.

I even recall using some of the KB sets on him -- though that could be wrong I done have any of his builds laying around.

The character I had that would occasionally get comments about KB was my Fire/Storm controller and specifically with Tornado.

I dont seeing the change to knock up/down being ultimately significant - both I could see having their own problems. In the case of KD if the mag is increased we are back to KB - with KU as the mag increases (when their is no roof) and things are in the air longer we are going to get back to the same problem of melee ranged attacks not reaching the target.

Anyhow :) My thoughts on the matter.

  7. All right, so I just did a safeguard mission on Talos Island. By the way the game worked in NCSoft days, I should now have a broker bar below it with one space filled in it, but...nothing. I'd attach a screenshot image, but after I cropped it small enough to be below 128 KB, the forum said the upload server is full. So you'll just have to take my word for it.

    Brokers are red side.

  8. I remember back in the oldern times Propel had only about 15 items. The pool table is my favorite followed by the forklift. Ahem, er... someone posted asking why they could not use pretty much all game assets of a certain size, one of the Dev;s posted back no reason they couldnt add them -- so they did.

The list is (or was) editable -- they added them in a matter of days as I recall.

Making it customization and map specific would, I think, take much more work.

  9. They posted something (last week I think) about figuring out how to severely reduce CPU load with the servers. The Status page has been down by about 1/2 from what I have seen.

At 7803 players with 37% CPU right now, last week that many players was the high 70%

All in all this is very good!!!!!

  10. I was at a friends house, I had heard of the game but it hadnt grabbed my attention. I forget what my game de jure was.

My friend was playing and someone walked by in a bubble, the graphics were awesome and I had to check out the game.

Here I am playing again after 7 years of blue balls.

When I landed in outbreak and things were working and moving and I go PLAY AGAIN it was almost as good as breaking 7 years of celibacy :) Not that I know what that would be like.

  11. There was an official I25 in Beta when things closed down. I believe it had new zones, a space station, or at least I read that back then.

I'm good with the new content.

Lots of things need to be updated and fixed, or so I hear, before features start to be added. Be nice when we get to that point. Take a lot of resources, writers, artists, animators, be nice to see COH go 'live' again and have it get the love we all want it to have.

  12. AMD 1800x

    1080 ti

    64gb ram (2933)

    NVME X4

    3840*2160 (4k)

All settings at max except depth of field (I dont like it) and AA is only 8x.

I set pretty steady at 30 fps. No matter where I go or how many ppl around so far.

GPU is usually at 50-55% load though I have seen spikes up to 95%

    CPU is 9-11% (usually 9-9.2)

Threads 17-18 (I expect most are gpu driver related)

If/when the client code is updated to dx 11/12 or vulcan and worked to support x64 we could see fps skyraiderrocket. I am sure there are much bigger short term priorities however. (like enabling full physics :)

The game uses more GPU memory then system memory when running - nice to have all of those textures in my GPU (11 gb) and not have the game need to keep loading/unloading them all the time. The GPUs of the day (2004) had, what 128-512 mb ram?

  13. I was able to get to the listing fee for my first rare salvage item in about 15 minutes by listing common items for 5000 each. Much more then the vendor pays for them and easily replaced.

Yes the fee up front is a *minor* pain however as others have said (IMO) it serves its need well enough.

The market in WOW for example is just different and not just in how the fee is charged. If you have not already I suggest reading up on how it works in detail.
