  1. Last night I was bragging to my friend (as I entice him twords playing COx for the first time) about all my villainy - Oh Boy I get to go rob a bank!!!! Oh look I get to go break some ppl out of prison!!!! HAHAHAHA I just put that hero in his place Muhahahahaha!

Followed by, I wonder when the FBI breaks down my door?

  2. Not to disparage the mighty floppy, but, wiki says the library of congress has over 38 million books. Some might just be coloring books (already filled in) but still I dont see that fitting.

I am getting some old Apple II's working..... the 140k floppies have some serious storage then? :) I have 20 of them and they are 2 sided even.

Lets wait till I get COH running on them (KIDDING).

  3. Hmmm.... that gives me an idea.... I was able to make a Dev Tracker by parsing XML, I wonder if I could do something similar to make a one-time program that would parse the Wayback Machine and create essentially a "database" of posts.... hmmmmm....
    You absolutely could, yes.

You would be my mostest favorite person in the whole wide world for at least a week!

I am betting others would feel the same.

How much raw data would forums like that use? Out of curiosity.

  4. I think the chat bubbles and mission/way point targets with distance are part of the 3d rendering and not the 2d hub - if so new code will need to be added to adjust the size, as both plus the mission text on the compass are painfully small for me when trying to read them.

I really like the look of the game at 4k --- the attention to detail from the original team really shows. Not to say 1k/4k textures would not be welcome - added sharpness and quality is always nice.

I've read about a lot of work with using AI to upscale textures with impressive results. Makes me wish I had the knowledge/time to get busy with that.

I am willing to run my computer overnight ryzen 1800x/64 gb/1080 ti, if someone has a vm with projects like that needing CPU/GPU time....

  5. Back in 2004, Marvel did sue Cryptic Studios over City of Heroes since it was possible to create a character resembling their IP in the character creator.  From what I recall, Marvel lost.

    .

That aside, it's up to the Homecoming team if they want to enforce players creating homages or even outright ripoff of established characters from Marvel, DC, etc.  Personally, I don't see much reason to given that this whole game is currently unauthorized anyway and carries its own risks.

The reason Marvel did not win is because CoH's lawyer proved that they players that had created Marvel IP and play in game were Marvel employees. CoH had a reporting process in place and players were very proactive in self-policing because they did not want to see a repeat. The lawyer, by the way got a standing ovation at HeroCon.

As for the current Overlords, I don't think they've said anything, but just because this is not an authorized server doesn't mean Marvel/DC/etc won't swing a hammer.

Personally, I think it best to err on the side of caution and avoid characters that outright copy someone's IP.

I remember - I was at that HeroCon.

Paragon also agreed to ban names that were Marvel IP. That should continue to avoid the servers having the plug pulled.
