  1. It isn't 'hate' to say that some servers are being run by fallible humans who have a different vision of game play than we have. When I say that there are servers I'd never play on, it isn't because I expect perfect development. It's because the community there is not one I want to be a part of. That is purely a matter of personal taste. It doesn't have to be as extreme as 4chan. There is a certain Big Name Fan from the old days who would never see me on a server run by him or his group. (I have no idea if he's involved in any current server) because I love to solo and he thought it should be mandatory to have an eight person team to cross the street. Players will go where they feel comfortable.
  2. Things like this always shake out. Maybe the answer is for the multitude of I24 servers to work together. Some will always be outliers - I'm not playing on a 4chan server - but maybe if they are all doing essentially the same thing, combining their efforts might be the way to go. And if they are *not* doing the same thing, then people will go where they feel comfortable playing.
  3. I can't speak for anyone else, but the reason I am playing on the Homecoming "monopolizing" servers is because it is being run by people who have a vision for CoH as a continuing effort. Also, there are names connected to it that I recognize as people who care deeply about the game. It gives me the feeling of playing with old friends.
  4. Our first nerf war. I missed these. *wipes away tear* Oh wait, no I didn't. But I suppose it was inevitable. Me, I have no problem with it, mainly because I'm one of those weirdos who turn off xp so they don't outlevel content. I haven't run a single DFB, and it will probably be Get-the-Badges-and-Done, like I treat TFs and trials. Except Katies. I used to run Katies constantly because they were fun as hell. Btw, the people talking about merit drops should check the merit store. I'm seeing prices of 50 merits on recipes that my old spreadsheets - which I still have because I'm a complete packrat - say were 240.
  5. Let me introduce you to a fine old saying. "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth."
  6. I'm going to come out of lurking to say this. Uh.. What? Please elaborate. Think of it as like fanfiction. There are no laws against fanfiction, only against violating copyrights. Most publishers/movie studios/TV networks, etc. don't bother to go after fanfiction writers because they make no money from their work. Homecoming is the same. They are not running the game for profit, so they are not taking (non-existent, but still their legal right) income from NCSoft.
  7. I really wish I could help out. Unfortunately, my coding experience is limited to what I learned in college. Considering I took classes in Basic, Fortran and Cobol.. I'm just a wee bit out of date. Geez, I'm an old broad.
  8. I'd like to make two points. First, people seem to be forgetting that the Homecoming team is not NCSoft. They are volunteer hobbyists who don't have to care if you play here. They are not a game company trying to keep your business and therefore your continuing payments. This is their world, and they are just letting us borrow it. If it is not to your taste, leave. There are other servers. I am sure that before long there will be servers for every style. Remembering the old days on the official forum, eventually there will be a server with PvP in every zone. But Homecoming cannot possibly make everyone happy. There are too many play styles, and they can't cater to them all. Second, I will repeat a point I made earlier. A lot of what people are complaining about as being too easy are just changes made to help people get back what they had. We can't have our old characters back. They are lost to the sands of time, and we mourn them. Maybe if things go well and this gets to stay, they can dial some things back. But complaining about losing players over the long term on a game that might be gone tomorrow is just madness.
  9. I'd like to point out that the 'easy mode' players were always there, even in the live game. Remember the AE players, the level 50s who didn't know you could leave Atlas Park? This complaint is a perennial one, because there will always be players who try to take shortcuts. If you want to do missions, do missions. I personally seek out every bit of content I can. I have a solo alt just so I can read all the clues and make sure I don't miss any dialogue. Anyone can do that. As far as some of the other concerns, most of the freebies are giving the players back things they earned through years of play, so they don't have to start at the absolute bottom. Do you really think it is fair to tell people that they can't have, say, the Sands of Mu power until they've been in this "might vanish at any moment" server for a year? Because that's how you earned it in the non-easy mode game. Why have an SG? For a fun place to hang out with your friends. The original SG design was a crazy plan to build a fortress to fend off attacks from other players. They thought everyone wanted to be in Wow-style guilds. Nobody - well, maybe a handful - wanted a fortress. Most people wanted a personalized hangout and a place to stash their stuff. We have that now. It's great. But if you want a big SG, you can make one. There are always people who want to be part of a group.
  10. I respectfully disagree. To give an example, 90-95% of PW's information about bases does not apply to Homecoming. Having been my group's base builder in the old days, I was delighted, but a newbie seeking information on PW will be terribly confused. For you, that might fall into the 5-10% you are talking about, but that's a whole segment of the game. Btw, love the salvage bin increase. Any chance of upping the storage limit past 18 items? *puppy eyes* I'm not demanding that a wiki be created right this second. And you are right that much of PW is just as useful as before. But that's the point. I won't know what is still true and what is not until I stumble across the change, like when we created our base. In fact, I might still be wondering why we weren't earning any prestige if it weren't for the fact that I accidentally placed an object in the entrance room while looking through the menu. A homegrown wiki would eliminate those "wait, what???" moments.
  11. We all love Paragon Wiki, but obviously there are a lot of things on there that are out of date, or no longer apply to the Homecoming version of the game. They have already said that they will not be making any changes, because every server group is doing its own thing, which makes sense. They have also said that they are open source, so anyone who wants to can copy it and make their own edits. Is anyone doing that for Homecoming? Because right now, every time I look something up on PW, there is a 'maybe' in the back of my mind.
  12. For Tequila, it is important to Run as Administrator. It is much, much faster that way.
