Are you aiming for function or theme? Are you playing a Bane Spider? Crab Spider? Widow? Are you having END issues? Need more damage? People either use Incarnate powers to double down on a strength, or patch a hole in the build. What are you trying to do?

Went off a tweaked build from @tidge. Feels like Def/Resist is OK but really not sure Where the Holes are.

I'm not sure what you mean by combos, forts don't have any combo mechanics. Fort Spin isn't bad but psychic wail is up enough that you basically don't need it, doubly so if you are taking enflame for max ST dps

    I am not using Enflame.

Running LvL 50, no Incarnates on +3/+4 solo

When attacking from Stealth a Fort gets solid bonuses on the attack. The build has Mask Presence Luck o the Gambler and Sprint Celerity + Stealth. running.

Am I getting the Stealth I need to get the bonuses?

I have been using this rotation; Confuse on mid mob target (aggro free so I don't think it breaks Stealth), Aim, Lunge, Follow-Up (bonus to-hit and damage from stealth + Aim), Spin and then drop a Nuke (the attacks after Follow-Up should get bonuses for 10 seconds). Then I jumping out and use cone AOEs to burn them down.

Is this all functioning to full potential? Feel free to ask for any other Info you may need.

  3. I bit the bullet and started running my 50 Fort again but it's been years since I played the character.

It's going OK... but I can't remember any of the Combos that work well together or any of the other useful tips.

A link to a page that already has what I am looking for or any pearls of wisdom you would like to drop on me would be Greatly Appreciated.

EDIT: Why is it that I don't see Spin in most of the builds? If I remember correctly there was a Combo that I used as a Starter attack that included it.

    • Split Superior Scourging Blast 3x into 2 powers to double up on the 10% recharge bonus.
    • Howling Twilight is autohit and doesn't require accuracy. A recharge IO is fine.
    • 5x Red Fortune in Maneuvers isn't getting you much. I would cut it to 3 slots or switch to LOTG or Reactive Defenses.
    • Swap the tohit/recharge in Tactics for tohit/endred.
    • Dark Consumption requires accuracy.
    • Shadow Fall should be taken much earlier than 49 and would benefit from more slots. At the least it requires endred, but you also want to enhance the damage resistance and defense. Your best option is a mix of defense and resist sets. You could skip Kismet since you're running Tactics. I would pull slots from Maneuvers, Weave and Aim.
    • I have seen the split of Sup Scour before. I'll try it
    • Will Do
    • Any particular combo you would suggest?
    • Will Do
    • Will Do
    • But I'll be getting the Slots back from the Spit Purple above. Do I need more?
  5. You can get your way thru Low lvls by Brute force, IE Blast blast blast.

Once you get to higher LvLs it becomes Tactics where you line Up the fight.

Prep the fight by dropping AOEs like Tar patch.

Then bring the pain AFTER reducing their To-Hit.

    Win/Win 95% of the time

This is the expensive build. It achieves 44.6% ranged (45% if you use all +5s) and melee softcapped defense. Soul drain is 3.38 seconds away from perma, which you also use to achieve instasnipes. I only took the useful powers at endgame, which means very few dark powers are taken. People don't die often once their toons are done, so I did not take howling twilight. You are also only 1% away from the s/l res hardcap. You could use +5s in unbreakable guard to get to the hardcap, but I am ok with using attuned and being 1% away in order to get the melee def bonuses when I exemplar down. With most corruptors you want as much +dmg as possible in order to highlight your higher base dmg (if not, why play a corruptor and not a defender?), which makes dark mastery almost a requirement in my opinion on most corruptors. Luckily dark miasma has shadowfall which allows us to forego mace mastery and the s/l/e option in mace shield for dark mastery and the lower cooldown soul drain. You also have aim with a gaussian proc which will help considerably. Fire/Dark/Dark works best in melee range due the PBAOEs powers Inferno and Soul Drain. Luckily, dark miasma gives shadowfall which considerably shores up your defenses making a r/m def build possible (it is essentially impossible on something like kinetics without barrier destiny or something similar). If you wanted to forego the extra damage of dark mastery and instead go scorpion shield, you would essentially be trading all around defense and damage for more recharge and more power selection. I think this is the better option and this is what I use on my fire/dark/dark corruptor.

I am building to this but I want Howling Twilight and Fearsome Stare.

How would you adjust it to work?

I have not found one.  I do this about once a year.  I turn off exp to do so.  I keep a handwritten log (updated each run) that guides me.  The current one I am working off of is 5 1/2 pages long.  It was generated by clicking on each contact in the Villain contacts, writing down name, level range, who they introduce, how to unlock.  Special notes like Arachnos VEAT contact, SSA contact, Strike Force contact etc.

In my mind someday I will put this on an excel spreadsheet.  But I do love pen and paper.  Very tactile.  I have done some drawing and painting.  I even write stories a little better with a honest notebook than on the computer.  Sigh.  So old lol.

@SnarkyDid you go Rogue and also grab all the Blue/Gold Exploration badges?

  8. I want to grind my way through All of the Villain content. I understand that this will require that I turn XP off through a very decent sized portion of my career.

Where can I find a list of all the Villain side Content with Level indicators so I know when to turn XP Off/On?

  9. OK, time for an Update;

    • Took Caltrops- Only One slotted but it's useful in Situations
    • Took Smoke Grenade- Same as above (any IO suggestions for it?)
    • Gun Drone- turns out to be more useful than i thought and free damage.

Gun Drone  With enough recharge and procs you can have out 3 Gun Drones.. Yes one might be only 10 seconds.. But again with recharge you will have the ability to have two Gun Drones out for 40 seconds together. If you have Burnout you can definitely have 2 Gun Drones at the start.. So You could Gun Drone.. T9 AOE.. Then Burnout.. Gun Drone.. T9 AOE and then 40 seconds later have a 3rd out.

I'ld be interested to see how you did this

  10. I keep seeing people skip over Half the powers and it makes me wonder. I can see the benefit in the few that folks do take but that is a total of 3 of 9 powers.

Are Any of the below worth taking??? If so, Why should I take them???

Caltrops The Range is crap and the effected area is so small. I can see the utility but should I waste a power slot on it?

Taser With Web Grenade already taking a slot, is there any reason to take it and add slot to it instead of Web G?

Smoke Grenade I see No One with this in their build

Time Bomb Same as Smoke G above

Gun Drone Seems to only be relevant if Hover.

  11. A while ago I got some very good advice about Frankenslotting /Dark from Erydanus in THIS thread

Just curious about how I'm doing so far and what needs improved. Obviously this is a work in progress.

Dark Defenders are pretty flexible. Most of the powers are good, many are good out of the box with minimal slotting (as uum noted, 2 recharge for tar patch and howling twilight and 2 end reducers for darkest night will carry you far) but at the same time it can benefit from heavy investment. Do you want to focus more on the damage side or the support side?

My overall recommendation is that Dark Miasma benefits greatly from Frankenslotting, which means using Invention Set pieces for their values but not their set bonuses. This is particularly good in the 22-47 range. A very important thing to keep in mind is that if you start slotting your powers with sets, you often have to 6-slot them to get the full enhancement mix that would work best, and even then until you're 50 the sets you can use won't necessarily add up to the desired values even if you're using attuned sets. I recently got smacked hard by this realization because I 6-slotted a melee attack with an attuned PBAOE set and it was only 80% damage total at level 35 (and would only be 89% at 50, yikes), an actual downgrade from just slotting 1 Acc and 3 Damage generic IOs.

On the other hand, with any 2 slots if you use 2 of the same pieces that are 3 parters you get excellent numbers. For instance in healing most sets have a Heal-Absorb/Endurance/Recharge piece. Using level 25 IOs each of those parameters is 16%, so if you put in 2 of them it adds up to 32% Heal-Absorb, 32% Endurance, 32% Recharge - the effect of 3 slots in just 2 slots.  This is big bang for the buck when you are lower level and don't have the full slots! In the case of Twilight Grasp there are unfortunately only 2 accurate heal sets and there's more emphasis on end reduction than recharge but you could definitely cook up decent leveling slotting with them. For instance combine 2 accuracy/heal/something pieces from the accurate heal sets and 2 heal/recharge pieces from 2 regular sets and you should end up with roughly the equivalent of 1 Acc, 1 End, 2 Rech, 2 Heal all in just 4 slots.

Shadowfall for instance is a tremendous buff to both defense and certain resistances. I adore slotting it in this formula in general, from 1 set Defense, Defense/Endurance, Defense/Endurance/Recharge, and from another set the same pieces but for RESISTANCE. That way you can have a piece bonus for both a defense set and a resist set, near capped values on the protections and a reasonable amount of end reduction. However you could cram a couple def/end and resist/end from different sets to get you going. Again about 4 slots in that power is pretty functional if you use mixed pieces.

Fearsome stare is amazing. It benefits from having as much recharge as you can get into it because you want to spam it on every mob; you will need some accuracy; the rest not as much. Fear duration is not as important since it's beefy out of the box; it's about -18% tohit but because tohitdebuff is on the B schedule for enhancements (20% for an SO instead of 33%) a single enhancement only gets you a slight increase. Endurance cost is very low (8 end! So CHEAP!!) it's not worth slotting for it. A couple Acc/Fear/Rech to get you going and then maybe just shove a couple extra recharge generics in until you're happy with its spammability.

Petrifying Gaze was nerfed at the same time controller holds were, it used to be so spammable a Dark defender could hold a boss. Now it's been nerfed so bad it's just a lt holder. It's definitely an optional power; since you have freeze ray and bitter freeze ray available you'll have to make your own call about getting it and getting it to stack with other holds, if you even think it's worthwhile.

Black hole is reviled, you should skip it for reasons you can find if you pop over to the controller forum.

Dark Servant is wonderful and if you only put 1 proc in your build consider feeding Fluffy a "Cloud Senses: Chance for Negative Energy" proc because it can trigger on every one of his powers - and in fact that proc can go into almost all of your powers too. (Though, in general, you can get pretty wild with proccing out Dark powers but proccing the set for damage is actually a completely separate topic beyond general functional slotting tips!) Fluffy has several powers he cycles through including a heal, a hold, an immobilize, and that annoying damage and tohit debuff aura that Tsoo Sorcerers have, Chill of the Night. A lot of people just slot him for the tohit debuff, I personally have a little accurate healing in mine as well; it's definitely a personal choice.  Accuracy/Mez hamidon enhancements are also a possibility at 50.

So How am I doing so far?

  13. Yep. Gunna go Dark Mastery for D Consumption, D Embrace and Soul Drain. Should I also pop for a Soul Transfer for Just in Case scenarios?

Other than my Fire and Dark Miasma choices I have Mystic Flight, Combat Jumping Tough, Weave, Tactics and Maneuvers.

This is a Solo and Group build

Fearsome stare has 2 things going for it.  A Fear and a -ToHit debuff.

The fear means they won't attack unless attacked, but they'll go back to the fear state so they can only attack occasionally.

The ToHit debuff means they'll hit you less often.

So no Rain of Fire. just try to keep it to single target attacks. Many Thanks
