Kind of agree that this isn't the place for it, but my two cents... The rules are pretty clear, but how which parts are enforced and at which times, depends on who is enforcing it at said time which can be slightly frustrating. I'd get into this more, but as its been said, this isn't really the place for this.

I guess, after my experience, I just didn't want to take any chances that some leeway might be granted, or might not be. I try to stick to purely original characters now.

I used to go by Hamidon for several years. Everyone was cool with it, until they weren't. I always tried to play it as an alternate dimension version of them; but the Gm's simply didn't like me using the name. I figured it was because of copyright risk, and the fact that NCsoft still holds the character rights. Granted, the Gm's didn't like me questioning this, and when I inquired and asked about it, they went into my account (they did warn me if I inquired further, they would have to inquire further) and genericed every name in my account (in Everlasting) that had the name Hamidon or was related to it. This happend a year and a half before the NCsoft deal was announced, so something tells me they did it to protect the game and to keep to any deal they had with Ncsoft. Do yourself a favor. Delete (or change) any character names that match in game names. Even if some people say it's ok, especially if the character is from another "dimension", don't use any names they are copyrighted by Ncsoft or currently being used in game by Npcs, even if it's technically allowed in the rules. Copyright is...complicated, from what I understand. Obviously, Gm's and dev's would have a better insight on this; but this was my experience with it. Really scared me away from the community side of this game. I mostly run solo now. (Granted, I don't blame the GM's, they were just doing their job, and protecting our favorite game) Edit: Went back to my support ticket history to get this: "Additionally, creating copies of existing characters from the City of Heroes / Villains lore or naming your Supergroup after existing groups from the City of Heroes / Villains lore is not permitted. Use of these characters in Architect Entertainment and character backstories is permitted, and you are free to present yourself as a member of an existing group or portray your Supergroup as an offshoot or subdivision of an existing group, but you cannot portray yourself as owning or being in control of any existing group." - from the 2021(2?) Code of Conduct. Not sure if it's been updated since then.

Will the rest of the incarnate powers ever be unlocked?
Kriiden replied to Mr. Apocalypse's topic in General Discussion
Personally, I generally like the incarnate system. After reading some of the other posts in this thread, I kind of see in my head what I think could work. Obviously other's opinions may differ. Firstly: Make it so you need to do something else then just earning additional exp (like the original servers? Can't remember at the moment what was default) to unlock incarnate. That way the content can be made more avoidable, for those who think the system makes any individual toon OP, (Granted, you could always turn off exp right now, and then it would be the same result). Personally, I think it should be a combination of badges and other things. Something akin to accolades. Secondly: Rearrange some of the incarnate abilities. For instance, as some have said, move/change the "Nuke" to a different slot, or get rid of it completely. To do this at this stage WOULD be a pain in the rump for those who have builds that require incarnates, but for now, let's overlook that. After the incarnate system is reorganized, add silly, more overpowered things, with their own, sometimes difficult, requirements depending on an ever increasing difficulty. (Make it difficult. Make it VERY difficult. I dislike difficult things, but despite this, I love this game, and think it would do well by it.) Thirdly: Cake. In my own admittedly unorganized mind, doing something similar to what I put above could, depending on the communities views, would allow the dev's to reestablish what defines as "end game" content and what's "additional fun content", and or a slight mix of both. -
I think some folks are getting confused between page one and page 3...XP. Almost made the same mistake myself.

For once, I'm glad I have no idea what's going on. Being socially inept/unaware has it's downsides, but I guess it has it's upsides too...

What is the official Homecoming policy in regards to names for your characters in the CoH universe? I understand that using a name, like "Statesman" or "Lord Recluse" would be frowned upon or genericed pretty quickly: but what if you played an alternate reality version of that character, and named them like Steven Richter(SP?) If the name was available, would it be tolerated by the Mods/Gm's/Whomever holds the power? Or would it be a violation of terms and services? And if you specifically played a "Variant" (too much Loki) would you get into trouble ? Apologies if this topic has been brought up. I know topics have been started in terms of using "Superman" or "Hulk" (and how it would be against the TOS) as a character name, but I guess my question more specifically involves characters in the CoH, that fall under the banner. I apologize again if this has been discussed. I've done a search, and haven't found exactly what I am looking for. I will keep searching, and If I find an informative answer, I will request this gets removed. (I originally was going to post this in help and support, but I felt this wasn't as important as some other questions)
