Claws / Energy Aura Build

I created my Claws / Energy Aura Scrapper because it fit the character concept (Android Scout for a Galactic Law Enforcement Team) I'd had since he was originally created back in on the early years of the original servers as Claws / Regen.  Of course, Energy Aura didn't exist back then, and my active days as a player ended before it did.

 

So, when I started back up here, this was the second hero I re-created.  It was frustrating at times - he would run out of Endurance easily, and was defeated often.  I was enbarrassed to bring him on teams.  I considered deleting and recreating him as Claws / Invuln several times.  There were no other players on the forums posting builds, and only 2-3 of refences to the combo, mostly in passing as something they'd played.  I stuck with him, and have reached a point in the mid-30s where Energize and Energy Drain are taking care of my two major issues (Health and Endurance), and I'm finding him a lot more fun.

 

I went through several versions until I got where I am... I'm not totally happy with it - I would have liked to figure out a way to add Air Superiority for the Focus / AS "boss bounce" I came to know and love back in the day, but I just can't at this point.  This is NOT a cheap build.  I had a less expensive version with two powers six-slotted with Mako, but I just couldn't waste a slot in each power to add a "Chance for Lethal Damage" iwhen using Claws, so I moved things around and slotted in more purples where they fit.   Also, I may have over-done things in the Endurance area, but I won't know until I see it in practice at 47 when I respec out of IOs and into my level 50 IO sets.

 

Claws is a FUN powerset, and Energy Aura matures late but has more utility than many defense sets.

 

 - Entropic Aura is a key power of the set, the usual melee "status protection" toggle, but with +Recharge.

 - Energy Cloak is a Stealth toggle with a decent amout of defense. (and another location for a LotG +7.5 enhancement)

 - Energize is an excellent Heal that gives +Regen and +EndRdx for a short time.

 - Energy Drain sucks the Endurance out of nearby enemies and gives much of it to you.


So, here it is, the first posted Claws / Energy Aura build I know of.  Use it, steal ideas (God knows I did), and/or give advice on how it could be improved.  Enjoy!

I also very much enjoy Claws/whatever.  So much so my current project is Claws/Energy Aura.  Your build is very similar to mine. Not sure which powers are the most appropriate for sets, but below is what I'm currently using.

Sorry it took me a couple of days to find this. It's a cool build - and it's fun teaming with this toon of yours. I do have to say -- you are the only character with this powerset combo I've seen since my return to Paragon. Seems like you're blazing new trails here 🙂

I love EA, and Claws is fun (I have a claws/sr scrapper), but I'd rather have a claws/EA...

 

I'd lean towards the OP wrt Energy Drain.  Don't bother slotting Defense sets in there (unless you need 1 LotG or something); I usually 6-slot Performance Shifter (if I have the slots), or just pure End Mod sets for however many slots I give it.  The defense is not fantastic (think it maxes out at 7% which is great, but that's hitting 10 dudes); I'd rather get a FULL END BAR hitting 1-2 dudes.  YMMV, ofc.

 

I definitely would not run Focused Accuracy (except in rare, temporary cases); so I'd just have 2 slots for the +dam bonus of Adjusted Targeting...

 

Eviscerate LOOKS good on paper, but it is a DPS loss due to activation.  I usually skip it and use the slots elsewhere.  You literally will be picking 2 powers to spam in addition to followup (so 3 total):  folloup, shockwave, spin for AoE; followup, strike, focus for ST.  I'd love to get SLASH in there (5 damage+1 -RES proc), and if you're dead-set on keeping Eviscerate, lose it and take SLASH for the more realistic DPS gain (e.g. mobs will not always be stacked just right for eviscerate; therefore, it's a single-target attack with benefits...).

 

Avoid body mastery, it's misleading.  Maybe on a WP build to stack regen, etc.; however, for scrappers there's basically two epics, Soul Mastery is the premiere one, IMHO.  Moonbeam will be one of your hardest-hitting attacks, esp. with a Apoc Proc (hehe) and Shadow Meld is an OK alpha absorber / utility power with just the default slot (LotG mule).  Don't try to make Shadow Meld into a perma, it's not great (long activation, low duration); but before jumping into a mob?  Sure!  I usually don't use it (don't need to) unless there's a lot of PSI or some damage type that is getting through... or I've been def-debuffed too much.

Jaxman100, you and I seem to be on similar wavelengths.  Our builds are VERY similar, which I guess isn't unexpected because of the low number of example builds out there to get ideas from.  Still, same pool choices even.  I'd love to look at your build more closely, but for some reason it won't come up in Mids for me - I'm even using the same version you have.

I'd lean towards the OP wrt Energy Drain.  Don't bother slotting Defense sets in there (unless you need 1 LotG or something); I usually 6-slot Performance Shifter (if I have the slots), or just pure End Mod sets for however many slots I give it.  The defense is not fantastic (think it maxes out at 7% which is great, but that's hitting 10 dudes); I'd rather get a FULL END BAR hitting 1-2 dudes.  YMMV, ofc.

 

I definitely would not run Focused Accuracy (except in rare, temporary cases); so I'd just have 2 slots for the +dam bonus of Adjusted Targeting...

 

Eviscerate LOOKS good on paper, but it is a DPS loss due to activation.  I usually skip it and use the slots elsewhere.  You literally will be picking 2 powers to spam in addition to followup (so 3 total):  folloup, shockwave, spin for AoE; followup, strike, focus for ST.  I'd love to get SLASH in there (5 damage+1 -RES proc), and if you're dead-set on keeping Eviscerate, lose it and take SLASH for the more realistic DPS gain (e.g. mobs will not always be stacked just right for eviscerate; therefore, it's a single-target attack with benefits...).

 

Avoid body mastery, it's misleading.  Maybe on a WP build to stack regen, etc.; however, for scrappers there's basically two epics, Soul Mastery is the premiere one, IMHO.  Moonbeam will be one of your hardest-hitting attacks, esp. with a Apoc Proc (hehe) and Shadow Meld is an OK alpha absorber / utility power with just the default slot (LotG mule).  Don't try to make Shadow Meld into a perma, it's not great (long activation, low duration); but before jumping into a mob?  Sure!  I usually don't use it (don't need to) unless there's a lot of PSI or some damage type that is getting through... or I've been def-debuffed too much.

I understand what you are saying about Evicerate.  I've kept it because of its high damage, but it really does break up the set's attack flow.  I'll continue to play with the build to see if I can make something work without it.

 

As for Epic Pools... It's a concept thing for me I think.  Soul is a solid pick, but it doesn't fit the character.  I may try it if I ever I head over to the Red side with this guy.  I think the other top-tier epic pool you didn't mention is Flame Mastery?  That doesn't fit concept either, but it's a better fit than Soul.  I mainly picked Body for Laser Beam Eyes... I probably don't need to commit another power to take Physical Perfection - I thought that maybe I'd overdone it with Endurance powers anyway. I could take Conserve Power (just because I have to take either it or Focused Acc) and leave it with one Recharge, then take my Laser Beams.

 

I need to jump into Mids and spend some time playing with ideas.  I need a higher Recharge, but I also want my Defense numbers at or close to 50%.  Higher Resistance would be nice as well, but I'm not sure I can get much higher without sacrificing in other areas.  That's why Hecatomb isn't in this build; it's a great set, but there's NO +Defense in it.  Still it has the +Resists, +Global Recharge, and +Accuracy...  Then I need to factor in Incarnate abilities... Back to crunching numbers...

I'd do something like this:

 

Less defense overall but it does softcap neg so your only hole is psi. More -res procs, more slow resist, more recharge via FF procs, more energize and energy drain uptime which means better endurance management.

 

More mitigation options, if you are going to dip into energy mastery it'd be a shame to skip energy torrent. It's too useful not to pick up, both from a mitigation perspective and also from a proc perspective. That and shockwave and the chance to proc KD in eviscerate will buy you time against most enemy factions and compensate for the lower overall defenses.

 

The build doesn't really need hasten and the only power that really benefits from it is energize, but energize helps with the insane end cost of Focused Acc so it's your call. If you are so enamored with flying you can drop SS for fly.
