Rad/Psy Defender help

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I've started up in this game a  few weeks ago (of course, I was active during the original live, starting at issue 1 🙂 ). and I was wondering if someone could help me out with a Rad/Psy build. Most of my builds are not really min/max, but they are built with a character background in mind. This one is a faerie that was corrupted by radiation and lost all her natural powers, but found her psychic powers augmented. I'm planning on making her a vigilante.  However, the build doesn't seem to work out ok. It feels like I'm missing a lot of end recovery. Here is the build:

Right, originally I actually had more, however I started noticing a couple of things. First off, knockback as rad REALLY SUCKS, which made me not want to use my tk blast. I also found myself bering more range and less up close, so the psychic scream was pretty ineffective as well. My current fighting rotation is mental blast, psionic lance (insta cast with the acc enh), will domination and scramble thoughts. And, of course, physic wail is amazing.  I found myself when I took out all those mentioned and subdue, I was never waiting for one of my fighting powers to be off cd. Plus, the amount of times I had to add my healing, or debuffing in a team situation, made it so I always had psycic lance and will domination up, which are my strongest powers.

So are you trying to avoid all IOs for now and stick to SOs? Just curious - there are some low hanging fruit for around 4 million a pop that could help a lot— you typically gather a lot of “orange” salvage that can be sold for 500k so it’s not unreachable or anything

Oh no, I'm just too new to know much about sets, or how to mix and match them correctly 🙂

I just dinged 50 on this one, she is my second 50 ever, as I usually play my main and he's pretty solid. The slotting is based on my very, VERY limited knowledge of how IO's used to work.

Ah, well you can find guides around 🙂 This will take a BIT of money, but here's a build that when completed should do you pretty well, based on what you said. it does include TK Blast, but it has an IO that changes the knockback into a Knockdown, making it much more palatable.

it has softcapped ranged defense since you prefer to play from there - even without the Alpha (incarnate). It does have consumption/soul absorb tho so you'll wanna run into melee for those at least :).

In the meantime, while you farm money, just keep your 2x2x2x like you were doing -- with, say, 2 Damage, 2 End Redux, 2 Accuracy -- except in wail, which you can replace the endurance with recharge.

Once you can complete the build below you'll have

  • 45% Ranged Defense
  • Perma Hasten
  • Perma Accelerate Metabolism
  • 70% resist s/l

(This was not built to be cheap)

When is comes to Psionic Blast I much prefer Psychic Scream to Psionic Tornado. Have to say I am not a huge fan of Psionic Tornado. I couldn’t get it to do good damage, even with procs, whereas Psychic Scream seems much more reliable (providing you like cones) at damaging and proccubg. Also it is a slow hitting DoT with a long activation time, so the damage just isn’t very immediate. The only good thing about tornado is using it as a mule for +recharge procs.

For single target attack chain I would go for

Psionic lance

telekinetic blast (give it a FF +recharge proc. It does a little less than will domination but makes up with a knockdown/back which helps for soloing; and smashing damage for resistant enemies, and hits faster).

Dominate (from APP - proc it up) or if not, Will Domination.

Rad can be quite endurance heavy. The trick is to slot AM as @seresibyl3 recommends and try make it perma.

Rad infection needs 5 slots of dampening spirits, focus on to hit debuff and end redux enhancements.

Use accolades and set bonuses to raise your endurance to around 120, that will help a lot.

I built it for a team, where mobs will likely die before a lot of the toggles mean much. But to each their own.

That being said, the build I made also didn't use Scream because of the OPs statement of not liking it 😛  Personally I always use scream+tornado tho

Oh I missed that. See I obviously didn’t read closely enough! Personally I just use Scream + Wail and don’t bother with Tornado (sounds weird when you drop all the psychic prefixes!)

Rad Infection I use a lot when solo and on difficult fights so always consider it worth slotting!

Thank you for the feedback! I really liked the proposed build. I understand the issue with psychic tornado, although I will say I don't use it so much for damage as I do for a quick crowd control. Plus it allows me to do it from far away, since I'm really squishy.

I do notice that afterburner is not on. I thought it was pretty much a requirement to make flight speed decent. Is this not the case anymore?

Thank you!

Thank you!

Power picks to me are more valuable than qol speed stuff.

you could switch our mutation for it if you wanted (and then out a luck of the gambler in it)
