Elec / Dark -- Maxed Positions, How to Finish?

Hello folks,

I've been working on an Electricity Control / Darkness Affinity build and have gotten it to an interesting place -- I'm not sure how to finish it out!

I'm looking at the final three power selections:  (I have 3 power picks and 1 slot left to allocate)

Not sure how the recharge amounts are going to feel -- can get a little more using a Def APP (for LoTG) or swapping Positrons to Ragnarok in Chain Fences -- other changes would be harder to manage

Hate to see 5 slots & Superior Blistering Cold in Boxing :( -- maybe I can make up for it with an APP power.

Obviously overkill nearly maxing typed & positional defenses, would welcome any way to focus on one or the other, the presence of both was not intentional.

Borrowed some slotting from Camel's post here Camel's Fire/Dark/Fire build -- had to make a bunch of adjustments but wouldn't be where I am without it.

Specifically wanted to exemplar more effectively, leading to the 6-slot Arcane Bolt and emphasis on Static Field.

I consider all three of the super power pools (Experimentation, Force of Will, Sorcery) pretty much equivalent.

And I think it's worth saying that pretty much the entire reason I'm in Electricity Control is Static Field.

I find Mass Hypnosis almost as compelling, but don't like Plant Control (despite its power level).

I will post my build here but I want to tell you to be ready for the most insane area control you have yet to experience...with the least amount of damage you have yet to experience.

It's such a great/terrible combo that you will love/hate it. I took it to a farm map a few times just for grins...It's crazy how many mobs you can control by yourself....to absolutely zero effect whatsoever.

So the moral of the story is to team with groups that need control...because you need someone to do the actual damage.

Really fun...but not by yourself.

I just now looked at your build for comparison...

You are wasting a ton of slots and powers on things like 5 Slotting Boxing for no reason other than to get a Def bonus. I would suggest picking up Combat Jump for a decent global Defense and mobility.

This combo plays best in the middle of everything and controlling all of it. So picking up single target attacks like Arcane bolt and slotting it is a waste.

Just take a look at my build and see what you think. Maxing out ALL of your defense points doesn't really help your character if you aren't as effective. Especially in content where enemies bypass defense.

My build has so much control and debuff that maxing those stats takes away from slotting other things.

You want more recharge for extra sleep zones. I can have 4 sleep zones up at all times and perma fade and soul absorb. And this couple with being able to control ALL the mobs around your position gives you unlimited health and end. You really only need people to kill the mobs for you at this point.

Your build seems to be spending a ton of slots and money on things that aren't really helping your effectiveness. It's more for set bonuses. I pick my powers first and then decide the sets I want to get to assist my build.

Things I see in that vein:

6 Slotting Tesla Cage with Will?

I already mentioned the Boxing thing.

Gremlins die very easily. If you want the best recharge then slot with Expedient.

6 slotting Dark Servant with a hold set doesn't help his effectiveness at all. He doesn't cast a hold very often. I use Cloud Senses because all his attacks debuff.

Food for thought.

Thank you Doc, you're totally correct w/r/t the build -- I got overly focused on hitting defensive milestones as I've struggled a good deal with that in the past.  I really appreciate your thoughts and look forward to getting this character up to take advantage of your guidance!

I am a HUGE fan of Elec/Anything.  I have an Elec/Storm, Elec/Poison and a few Elec/Time toons.  Why I have so many Elec/Time toons is beyond me (I made another yesterday).

Really fun...but not by yourself.

This is 100% true.  I actually look for smaller teams that want to do missions when playing Elec/Poison and Elec/Time.  A group of 4 players running at +4/x6-8 is pretty much perfect for me after I hit the mid twenties.

But I really came here to point out.  When I run /Time or /Dark, I usually aim for more like 40% Def, especially when playing Elec/.  This is because I can easily get that last 5% with a Defense Amplifier from the P2W vendor, plus in a team there is usually a Maneuvers or two running to help.  And if all that fails, grab a Purp inspiration.  You'll mostly be at 45% at all times with those conditions.

So yeah, 40% Def, this lets you focus on Perma-Haste and grabbing Resistance.  I also push some fun slotting into Jolting Chain and Electric Fences because of this, usually putting a large number of Procs in them.

I play where my toons are... and they are everywhere.  But Everlasting is my current main home.  Come on by my base GOLD-11404.  And, yes, most of my toons start Gold Side (Bold Side)!
If you want to make a fortune of Inf in City of Heroes, watch my guide on the Auction House.
Or come on by and visit my Discord.

I run my theme groups there and chat with Twitch viewers in voice there.
And lastly, come see my on Twitch.  City of Heroes is my main game!
