Rad/Son needs more dmg

So I'm pretty close to 50 on my new Rad/sonic, and have had some time to form opinions on Shout. From a combat feel perspective, I do find the late landing projectile both interrupts the flow of battle, and sometimes ends in me screaming at a corpse.

I also did some rudimentary math on attack chains, comparing Screech vs Shout and figuring out how they truly measure up once you factor in dpa, recharge, and debuff duration. Shout comes up on top in the optimal scenario, but only by ~10 dps in a repeated attack chain.  It is ~20 dps ahead on the first chain, but the screech chain catches up a little because the recharge aligns a little more optimally for a seamless cycle.

These are the chains I am comparing. I am certain someone could come up with something more optimal if they parsed it out in a more complex rotation, but I need something I can actually remember to mash!

For Shout - Shriek-Scream-Shout-Dominate repeat. There is a .37 second pause between Shout and dominate on subsequent chains.

For Screech - Screech-scream-shriek-dominate-shriek. This can be looped continually.

The single target numbers are very satisfying, rivalling some of the heaviest hitters outside critting stalker/scrapper land.  Once you get rolling past the first chain and if you have EF applied, you'll be somewhere around 260 dps. This does count the Alpha, but not any other incarnate abilities. It would definitely go appreciably higher with Interface and Hybrid. Pylon shaped banana for scale - that would be a Pylon time of somewhere around 4.25 minutes. I'll put it to the test at 50. : )

Of special note - In these comparisons I'm only 5 slotting Screech, but 6 slotting Shout. I could try to math out with the buildup proc in Screech, but the thought gives me a headache currently. Shout still uses that last slot for actual damage enhancement, which is useless in Screech.

I think for me this ultimately means I will respec out of Shout. The damage is very close, and I open up a slot to do with what I may. In my most recent iteration, this allows me to get back to softcap ranged defense.

For the curious, here it is. My goal was to get back to ranged softcap and give as much attention as possible to melee defense without sacrificing much recharge.  As I mentioned before, I've decided to keep RI in play for exemplar purposes, and EM pulse has made a good little mule. It's also a pretty good power!

Defense Totals are 45 Ranged/36 melee. Still capped on S/L resist.

Note that I do have the Sup Vig proc in Screech, as I want it in a power I have popping all the time. For some reason mids has this in as more than twice the actual recharge enhancement, so it mistakenly skews the in-app estimation of proc damage a little downwards.

Well, let's see which attacks have the highest DPA, then we can figure out the best possible chain for max DPS.

Traditional Radsender logic always said the best dps is using Shriek & Scream + Howl for some AoE, and that Shout actually hurts your dps. But this is outdated info from pre-proc days. @Onlyasandwichshowed dmg in /son comes from procs, the best attack isn't even Sonic (lol), and the worst 3 are Shriek, Scream and Howl because they can't be proc'd (effectively).

Let's look at the numbers for each attack with it's ideal 6 slotting (w/AM, Assault, Musc Core + Vig):

Dominate       451 dmg @ 1.1s ct      = 410 dpa  (5 procs)

Dreadful Wall 698.1 dmg @ 1.97s ct = 354.36 dpa (4 procs)

Shout             394.2 dmg @ 2.67s ct = 147.64 dpa (2 procs & no rech)

Screech          184 @ 1.5s ct              = 122.66 dpa (2 procs & no rech)

Shriek             99.35 dmg @ 1s ct     = 99.35 dpa (6 ato)

Scream           160.2 @ 1.67s ct         = 95.92 dpa (5 apocalypse + 1 dmg)

Howl               95.8 @ 2.33s ct           = 41.11 dpa (x#mobs hit)

You can't pick both Shout & Screech, they req the same Apoc proc. Shout has better dpa & rech, so fits in chains better imo:

Dom > Shr > Sho > Shr --> 1,043.9 dmg over 5.77s = 180.91 dps

w/more rech you can even drop x2 Shr:

Dom > Sho > Shr --> 944.55 dmg over 4.77s = 198 dps

Screech's long rech means it requires a 4th attack or a gap:, but this also means your 2 best DPA attacks are also mag 3 mezzes, each stacking with either DW or EMP.

Screech > Scream > Shr > Dom > Shr --> 993.9 dmg over 6.27s = 158.51

w/more rech you can even drop Scream:

Screech > Shr > Dom > Shr --> 833.7 dmg over 4.6s = 181.23

Shriek & Scream have just under 100 dpa so can never get over 100 dps.

Throw in Judgement + Dreadful Wail whenever they're up and you can easily get over 200 dps, double the dps of the traditional Shriek+Scream+Howl approach. I realize that 200+ dps is not very impressive, but add Hybrid Assault + Lore and GMs really do melt under the weight of your debuffs.

This proc heavy approach has limitations -- I'm not sure how dmg buffs affect them, I'm assuming +dmg and Hybrid double dmg do not affect the proc dmg, just the powers base dmg, so the various buffs may not be super effective on Dominate, but should still add up for Shriek, Shout & DW.

Max ST dps w/ high survivability, sacrificing healing & Rad Inf -- if you want RI, drop Scream & 5-slot Boxing/Kick w/Hecatomb (+Acc not +Dmg though).

Swapped Clarion for Ageless for max rech - I should drop End Red enh now. Dropped Hybrid Support for Assault, but big Psi res + Demonic Aura are awesome godmode. Also trying Reactive for extra Fire dmg + -res, fits this AT well - not sure how compares to -Max health in actual fights.

I'll definitely dig into your new build when I am at home with mids again.

Are your numbers accounting for the stacking resist debuffs as well?  They look a little lower than what I came to.

Procs do not benefit from damage buffs, but actually work uniquely well with sonic blast, as -resist is basically the only way to increase their damage.

I should definitely look at dropping scream. That wasn't really on my chopping block as a possibility.

For me, switching to screech gives me another flex slot, and allows me to be more agile in combat with its shorter animation. I'm going to keep working with shout a while longer to really settle in how I feel.

Clearly there is a lot to consider!

My numbers do not account for stacking resist debuffs at all! I don't know how to calculate, how many can stack, diminishing returns, how long they last, etc.

I actually dropped Howl and Scream and took Screech instead, with the ATO set in it. I can open with DW and drop Screech on the Boss to stack disorient, then switch to my ST chain. If I'm not worried about incoming dmg then I can just drop DW and roll into ST chain. Never hurts having another mez as opposed to Scream and Screech which never got used and were solely there to mule the set.

Also, can you boost Hami's?

They definitely make a big difference.

Shriek makes ideal chains a little tougher because of the shorter 5 second duration on its debuff. In most full rotations it will wear off before the restart.

This is a subtle advantage to keeping scream, which is 7 second duration, and this is longer than most chains.

Something I didn't realize until today is that sonic blast debuffs stack from the same power, so you could shriek all in a row and rack up 20, 40, 60 -resist with just that. This changes the math on second rotation and beyond significantly.

I wonder if anyone has made a tool to handle this. I just calculated it blast by blast in my last post.

You can +3 hamis by combining them. You can't use boosters in them.

Shout is 2.67s, same as Shriek + Scream. Do you think that extra 20% -res offsets Shout's extra 134.65 dmg? Shout's 10s debuff time means it will stack on itself by the time it gets back in rotation. so I'd still suspect Dom > Shout > Shriek or Dom > Shriek > Shout > Shriek would be best. I can do both attack chains with Ageless

I can play around with a pylon and see what the end results are, it's just hard with proc-based attacks being random and unpredictable. I'll have to kill a few and average the times for a reliable dps. I wish they still had the test dummys you could damage to see your dps in action live.

Couple more incarnate questions:

Traditional logic says Degenerative Core is better for AV/GM fights, but does the -Max HP eventually wear off? Since I've already nuked their regen, wouldn't straight up damage be better? Plus Fire is one of the least resisted damage types, so it seems like Reactive would be a slight advantage.

Also, everyone says Ion is superior to Pyronic, despite Pyronic's higher chance for additional damage. In game shows Ion at 2302 dmg vs Pyronic's 491. Can that really be right?? Like those aren't even comparable, despite Ion's long cast time.

I think ion's damage listed is based on some number of initial targets? I'm not sure. It certainly doesn't do that amount to each target.

People often prefer ion not because of damage, but ease of use. It doesn't care if the mobs are in a wonky spaced out blob, as it leaps from mob to mob.

That's a great question on degen. I'm not sure if it wears off. I think yes? It is not doing damage, but debuffing. When the crimson prototype debuffs your hp, you don't end up in the red if you let them wear off.

Degen probably still cones out ahead in GM's and the like just because of the sheer volume of hp they are cutting. Worth looking into further though.

Yeah, you're right, on another thread people are saying Reactive better for most mobs, Degen just barely edges out on pylons, so the general recommendation is still that Reactive is better overall, Degen slightly better for AV/GM. I assume the -res stacks well with son debuffs, which also gives Dom a chance to stack a -res as well?

Here are my pylon times:

Rd 2   4:19 Degenerative Core
Rd 3   4:29 Reactive Radial
Rd 4   4:01 Reactive Radial

T4 Musc Core

T4 Pyronic Core

T4 Ageless Core

T4 Assault Radial (Not used)

No temps, lore, inspirations.

Very solid time. I wonder how low you could get it with assault active.

I messed around with power usage in game and pretended I didn't have scream for a session. Very rarely did I find myself needing it as a filler, so I took your advice and dropped. This really opened up the build, and let me shore up a few compromises I had made, as well as pick up assault.

You are right about shout too. Keeping it instead of screech. It recharges more quickly, so I can maintain a good chain without scream.

@beradicalI got a chance to look at your build in mids. You definitely aren't afraid to take it apart and reassemble! You mentioned making this into two builds - I assume this is geared specifically towards big-game hunting. It is indeed very specialized.

If you are now running Ageless, do you still need the extra endredux in EF? You could steal that slot, switch the base slot in RA to Preventative medicine heal/rech, and add the PM proc as second slot. This caps your Smash/Lethal resist, which is running a little short now. The PM proc is also very powerful defensively. Tactics would also be a good slot to steal from. The HO cytoskeleton enhanced++ gives pretty much the same tohit enhancement alongside solid endredux for just one slot. You could drop it into tough with a 5th unbreakable guard to pump your psi resist even further.

I like your slotting of Dreadful Wail - you've really cranked the damage up with procs and still built good set value for your mission. It does look like you really emphasized psionic resist in this iteration as well.

I hit 50 with mine, and have finally settled on my 100% complete build. As I mentioned earlier, I aim towards a build I will be happy with solo and on teams. The biggest functional difference I see here is that your procced nuke does way more damage than mine.

I still have two really strong punch ST powers, retain my standard aoe, and the defender ATO procs are in powers that will see proper use.

My final build is softcapped ranged, 36 melee defense. Melee is not a big deal most of the time, as choking cloud does its work and I have a great hold to supplement. Thank you for the great back and forth on this - it has really helped me refine this build to where it is now.

Edit - I forgot I had World of Confusion minor DoT =/   I also respec'd adding a minimal 2% dmg & 3.75% rech. Tightened up attack chain, used Rad Inf this time (to minimize hits/KBs = delays), and eek out some big gains, finally breaking the 4 min mark (still no Hybrid, Lore, temps, insp):

4:09 - 4:04 - 3:43 - 3:37 = average 233.25s for 292.22 DPS

Yeah, I'm super happy 😃  Keep in mind my first post was needing more damage, frustrated with my 10 min times on Pylons.
