Draeth Darkstar Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 (edited) Hey Tankers. I haven't built a new Tank since Live, and back then I was mostly building for Resist and mixed sets. I never built a pure Defense Tanker, but I wanted to try out SR/DB on Homecoming and it's been a lot of fun to play around with, so I started looking at an endgame build. The trouble I'm having is that my usual build strategy is... well, overkill, for SR. I wanted to build for Incarnate defense caps for this one, and once I looked at what I'd come up with I realized that I overshot those without even trying. What I'm wondering is: Is it worth it to leave it be and have an ~8% buffer in case of debuffs, or is there something else I should try building for to get more use out of it? Note that I actually plan to take Boxing, Tough, and Weave as the last 3 powers, since they aren't needed for non-incarnate softcap and Homecoming doesn't enforce slot levels, but as far as I can tell Mids still does. eknudson Posted January 23, 2021 Posted January 23, 2021 You have 95% defense debuff resistance, so on my SR tank I didn't feel I needed a lot past the incarnate defense softcap. I can't imagine a scenario where you'd get hit with anything like enough defense debuff (given your resistance) to lower defense appreciably. Especially since you only get debuffed by things that actually hit you...plus, I don't know that I've run on a team doing incarnate missions where somebody wasn't running maneuvers or some defense aura. You'll probably be at 80 or 90% defense much of the time, which is wasted. I'd add some energy resistance rather than yet more defense. Enough things hit with energy damage. I wound up going musculature for my alpha-- I couldn't see how anything else actually helped me. I didn't really need the more defense from agility, resilience barely helps, nothing else jumped out. 1

Sorry for the dumb question, but building for Resistance set bonuses is new to me - where did you find much in the way of Energy? eknudson Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Some unbreakable guard, some bombardment, some adjusted targeting. With one ATO proc active I'm at 41.7% E/N resistance. It's hard to get a lot, agreed. My Dark tank looked hard for energy resistance since that's a hole for him and wound up building more for energy defense (he's at 45.5% e/n def and 52% res).
