Question: Can Rad/Fire Brutes farm Smash/Lethal content at +4/8?

 

I have really enjoyed my Rad/Fire farmer (90% Fire Resist and +45 Fire Defense), but I am looking to branch out in to more content outside of AE. So my goal is to snag some fun old school portal corps missions in PI and I would like to have my secondary build set to Smashing/Lethal (90% Smash/Lethal and +45 Smash/Lethal Defense) caps.

 

I know that Fire Shield offers around 35% resistance before DR and Tough can get around 15% resistance before DR, which leaves me with needing to find around 40% from set bonuses - is it possible to get to 90% Smash/Lethal Resistance AND 45% Smash/Lethal Defense with set bonuses without crippling the build or should I just role an Invuln instead?

75% resist, 45% defence

  Reveal hidden contents

Has about 6 KB protection, about as tight as I can make it lacking 20% resist but filling 45% and 143% recharge on top without incarnate, which you can use a different incarnate to fill some of the holes.  What kills it is the +def or resist requirement since there is like 3 5% bonuses all together while the rest of the smaller are at least 4 slots in for a decent bonus, if you get rid of most +recharge might be possible to retweak it such as 6 sloting one of the Brute ATO which adds 6% smash/lethal resist but you lose 5% defense, you can split IO Unique IO sets and still get the same bonus up to 5x (stacking with other different sets of the same value)

This is my Rad/Fire at 90 S/L/F + 45 Melee Def; I had to +5 some enhancements to hit 90 S/L but I couldn't run around THAT close to a blue number and NOT do it.   Overall, it's a little shallow in Recharge (123 after Hasten) and I left a little damage on the table chasing caps, but it'll clear a 4/8 cave map without hitting Healing Flames even once.   It's primarily a farming build but I've taken it out on the town with zero issues.  This build also addresses two of my biggest pet peeves: running out of endurance, and missing an attack; with Destiny Ageless and just a Kismet, I could have taken a different EPP and been just fine but, meh.  This does what I want.

 

ETA: Fury usually sits at 88-92, with occasional spikes.  i've moved the ATO proc around and seem to get the best results from where it's at in Burn, and I seem to keep Fury higher using Proton Sweep over Contaminated Strike as my cooldown.
