I'm looking for a decent and up to date Dual Pistols/Temporal Manipulation build.  I found a few searching the archives here, but most were over a year old and none I could find have been posted since the i27 Blaster Secondary changes.  So if anyone has a current build they are using, please share!

/Temporal didn't get gutted near as badly as did /TA, so I've not really found the need to respec.

 

Just did a +4/x8 ITF, MLTF and TinPex today and did just fine with this build.  It's really good!  Between Rune of Protection and Hybrid Melee you are really durable, plus S/L Def softcap.

I'm curious about the use of Scorpion Shield, indicating a Def build, but then skipping out on six-slotting both Blaster ATOs, missing out on some solid Def bonuses.  Is it because they focus on ranged Def?  I've heard DP spends a lot of time in melee.

Crysis' build is based on the original Dual Pistols/Temporal Manipulation Blaster build I used and posted over a year ago, (although not the build I use now).  Those defense bonuses for six slotting the Blaster ATOs goes towards ranged defense, energy damage defense, and negative damage defense.  Like you said, DP spends a lot of time in melee.  So it's not nearly as useful as slotting the -res procs in Pistols and Bullet Rain.

FWIW, here is my current build, although you probably won't like it as it uses and relies on the Defense Amplifier P2W ability which costs 2.5 million INF per hour at level 50.  It raises all defense values up by five percent, all resistance values up by seven and a half percent, and adds four mag mez protection.

As you can see, I dropped the hold as it was largely useless, and replaced it with Time Shift which does a more valuable AoE stun and -to-hit.  I also leaned more into melee by adding Future Pain, which is a strong melee attack.

I actually noticed the similarities between your build and Crysis'.  Yeah, I'm not likely to build around a P2W power.

This is what I came up with playing around in Mid's.  This is more of a leveling build to use before getting to 50; once at 50 of course I'd upgrade the ATOs and probably swap in a few purples.  I tend to take my time leveling though, so I like to plan IOs to use before I can get those.  I might swap around what levels some powers are taken depending on how things go, but the slotting is what I'll aim for along the way.

I went with Dual Wield over Aging Touch mainly because thematically I liked having the attacks be pistol based, so just a personal preference.  I took Suppressive Fire for stacking holds with Time Stop.  I did lean heavily into Def bonuses, even for ranged, and think I got some respectable numbers.  S/L Def is a little over the soft cap, but that doesn't account for Stealth not giving its full bonus in combat.  If my numbers are right, in combat they should be just over 45%.

 

Invisibility was taken as a LotG mule; but I could probably swap it out for something else if there's a better choice.  Maybe Time Shift?  I wouldn't have extra slots available for it though.

 

Of course the build is a work in progress, and I'm open to suggestions.

Yup, it likely is/was Apparition, sorry if I didn’t credit you with it, I collect so many builds off these boards I don’t always remember where I sourced something for one of my own alts.

 

But to your credit even on a build “this old” I haven’t had a need to change it much at all.  I have a LOT of DP characters, but this was my only DP/Temporal Blaster.  I took Hybrid Melee specifically because I spend so much time in melee, and its served me incredibly well for post-50 content thus far.  I’m actually quite tankie until the spawn surrounding the AV dies and I’m left there just the two of us.  But the combo of Hail of Bullets followed immediately by End of Time while inside center of spawn does a pretty good job of wiping out the minions and Lt’s.  So yes, unlike a Hover blaster, you aren’t building toward +Ranged Def, but rather S/L defense as much as possible.  Rune also helps a bunch if I’m getting clobbered as my panic button, but I honestly seldom need it.

 

And while I’m also not a big proponent of the whole P2W approach (although it’s effectively cheaper than slotting mule strategies with IO’s just to chase wonky bonuses), I do make high use of Accolades and earned temp powers from super/winter packs and stuff.  So one mans cheese is another mans strategy lol.

I'd rather build for S/L and Ranged defense. S/L alone might work for you but I find it's the ranged stuff outside of your zone of direct interaction that will start that cascade failure that lead to your defeat. A lot of ranged mezzes/debuffs don't have a S/L component. And you can always kite/mez mobs in melee range to control the incoming damage from that vector. I've run melee blasters without softcap S/L defense but I'll never make a blaster and for that matter any squishy without softcap range defense if survival is one of my goals.

 

This is my take on the combo. Don't bother with piercing rounds if you care about efficiency, it doesn't do the -res with any of the special ammos and it's got a longish animation. Suppressive fire is super procced and has the best chance to trigger the decimation build up proc. You can also sacrifice 2% S/L/R defense to fit in the -res procs in bullet rain and hail of bullets. I imagine you should be fine with 43% defense to S/L/R but if you are a purist then this version softcaps S/L/R.

^^^  As usual, any build of Nemu's is the one to beat.

 

Over 300% recharge?!?!?!  BEFORE Incarantes?!?!?!  Wow.

 

Oh, realized MIDS was applying the FF +Recharge proc.  Still over 200% Recharge without it applied.

This build is pure theory-crafting, which admittedly I'm not the best at.  After Nemu's comments about Ranged Def, I tried modifying my original build to see what Def I could squeak out of it.  So this is what I came up with; S/L/E/R Def are effectively softcapped (at full Stealth bonus, so practically they sit around 43%), with solid numbers for other defenses and even some respectable Res (S/L 23.2%, F/C 32%).  Again, leaving out Aging Touch for both T1 and T2 DP powers is just a personal choice.  You could swap out Stealth, Invisibility, and Burnout for Maneuvers, Tactics, and Vengeance, which would make the practical Def numbers a little better.  I tend to avoid leadership because I solo a lot, and I don't always find the END cost of powers meant to affect a group worth the tradeoff.  The slotting is pretty tight to get set bonuses; there are a lot of things I'd like to do with just one or two more slots here or there, but I'm not sure I can free any up elsewhere without sacrificing the goal of the build.  I have no idea how effective this would be in practice, and I imagine it takes quite a DPS hit over other builds, but if I get the chance I'll try it out and report back.

You only have range softcap with Hail of Bullets on, and that buff is very fleeting.

 

Also the F/C defense bonuses at 6 slotting the winter sets isn't doing anything for your end goal. I also think you risk turning HoB into a knockback power with the avalanche KD proc. It's far more efficient to swap the end of time and hail of bullets slotting. The Purple set gives more recharge and you want that in HoB anyway.

 

Besides Mezzes which blasters just need to learn to deal with, the other status I hate dealing with are slows and blind. Luckily time has a lot of slow resistance. Blinds on the other hand is a status that a lot of ATs don't have answers to by default which is why I take tactics on most builds. The additional to hit is also nice, I hate missing too. That becomes very relevant when you are on teams over their head running +4/8 and the mobs are +5 to most of your teammates.

 

I also think you are sacrificing quite a bit of single target damage for your goals. DW/Pistols/Executioners will leave you wanting. You make up for it with more controls but killing things dead quick is also mitigation, something to keep in mind. Striking that balance between damage and survival is the hard part.

Nemu, I just re-read what you wrote....I didn’t realize -RES doesn’t work with anything other than normal ammo on Piercing.  Is this true for any procs assigned to PR?  And is this WAI or is it a bug?

Right from the in-game power description:

 

You fire your pistols with deadly precision in a very narrow cone, piercing up to three enemies. Piercing Rounds deals Superior lethal damage and reduces targets' Damage Resistance for a short time. NOTE: Changing your ammo type with the 'Swap Ammo' power will change your secondary damage from lethal to cold, fire or toxic. Additionally, changing your ammunition type will also change the secondary effect of this attack from a resistance debuff to a minor attack speed and movement speed debuff if 'Cryo Ammo' is loaded, a minor damage over time effect if 'Incendiary Ammo' is loaded, or a -damage effect if 'Chemical Ammo' is loaded. Damage: High, Recharge: Slow

 

WAI as far as I'm concerned. Bullet Rain got the kb removed with special ammo, this makes sense if we use that train of thought.

Meant to add to this thread in case anyone is looking for a little extra spending money....

 

I routinely run Brigg's Smashing and Lethal ComicCon farm with my build posted above.  With softcapped S/L DEF and very high Melee Defense, plus the resists, it's almost as fast as my purpose-built Spines/Fire brute.  The big difference is that a DP/Time blaster plays perfectly fine outside the AE, while the brute is far weaker outside of AE.  

 

Just in case you want to have some fun, take one into arc 133 set on +4/x8.  Fast, easy XP and drops.  Use the damage inspiration macros to convert all those inspiration drops into reds.  Even without being able to hold aggro, you are just a buzzsaw, especially with Hybrid Melee.
