honoroit Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 Do you remember? Was pretty crazy, audio and music way ahead of its time. Like wasd controls, but... better, you could lean. Always up for another dance with the true machine mother. (meanwhile, at ghost story games, they know, she'll never let go.)

System Shock: Enhanced Edition. Enhanced Edition doesn't alter the game or story, just adds quality of life improvements like mouselook (yeah, that was actually absent in SS Classic), the ability to remap most of the functions to different keys, and running at modern resolutions. Read the manual, too, because there are no in-game descriptions of what items are or what they do, no hints as to which keys to press, etc. System Shock 2 - there are several mod projects revolving around updating the graphics and texture resolutions, but they're unnecessary to enjoy SS2. Just go with the base game. The only changes made from the original release have been bug fixes and updating the executable to allow running at higher resolutions. Nightdive (the company currently in control of the System Shock and SS2 IPs) is working on an Enhanced Edition for SS2, but I have no idea what will be updated or changed, or even when it will be published. Steam and GOG both sell the same versions of SS and SS2, so opt for whichever delivery platform you prefer and go for it. There was a System Shock 3 in the works, but it's turned into a jumbled mess and no-one really knows what's going on with it now. It has some hefty investments and franchise-connected names attached to the project (including Terri Brosius, the voice of SHODAN ❤️ ), but the license was sold to Tencent (the license for future SS sequels, not just SS3) and there's been no chatter since. There's also a remake (not a reboot, apparently, but a faithful recreation) of SS1 in a modern engine (Unreal 4, i think) by Nightdive, and that might actually make it to a release at the end of this year. Maybe. There's a demo on Steam (haven't downloaded it) and a pre-purchase option. 1 Get busy living... or get busy dying. That's goddamn right.
