Hello,

I'm usually a melee player, and so when it came time to try some ranged/blasting type stuff, I naturally gravitated towards Sentinel.  I was looking at Sonic blast, and while I know its not the best damaging set, it looks like I can make it a semi controller?  Am I wrong?

Howl with Ragnarok's KD proc

Shockwave with KB to KD

Psy shockwave with Avalanche's KD proc

and then we have the disorients from Screech and Wail.

Is this trying to hard to twist the set into something its not?  Would I just be better focusing on damage procs to crank the pew pew?

This was something I tossed together quick to check on possibilities, keeping the capped defenses and decent S/L res

My Sonic Sentinel absolutely feels like a Controller. I went a different route in that, as a solo player I leveraged Siren's Call (with Mass Hypnosis as a back up) for hard control and the disorient powers for the rest.  It was very smooth, very safe. I paired Sonic with Super Reflexes but with hindsight I kind of regret going for a more adventureous secondary.  Fair warning though,  I never really tested this character against truly hard content.

I would probably skip Scream in favor of Shout. With Screech as a viable attack for Sentinels, Scream isn't needed to complete a ST attack chain.

I would either just put a plain recharge IO in Amplify, or the Guassian proc. A +5 recharge will sync its recharge time to be more inline with Dreadful Wail, or the Gaussian proc will give whatever you use after the build up more oomph.

Oh, never really addressed your question. I guess you can aim for those soft controls, but it's like you said, trying to make it into something it's not. As you have it built, you'll be fine, you're only missing out on a few procs at best anyway. Sonic as a set is more about force multiplication than it is about sheer damage output. If you're also out there randomly doing soft controls you're just leaning a bit more into the team support aspect.
